GEC Watch: Star Plus' dominance grows to 8 slots in top 10 weekday shows


Saathia on Star Plus takes the top slot. Entertainment ke liye kuchh bhi karega' boosts Sony in Week 20 of TAM 2014. Mission Sapne grows in its second week

Week 20 of TAM 2014 witnessed most Hindi general entertainment channels losing viewership to IPL. According to TVT data sourced from TAM subscribers for Week 20 of TAM 2014 (May 11 - May 17) CS 4+, HSM markets, Star Plus strengthened its dominance in weekday programming claiming 8 slots in top 10 list leaving one slot each for Zee TV and SAB TV.


Colors continued to lead weekend programming with Comedy Nights with Kapil' at the top followed by Fear Factor - Khatron Ke Khiladi'. Its latest offering Mission Sapne' surged ahead in its second week.


Sony's new show Entertainment ke liye kuch bhi karega' opened at an average viewership of 2.7 TVM.


Weekday toppers (all data in TVM, 000000's)

Star Plus' Saathiya topped the weekday chart this week with an average viewership of 9.8 TVM (last week 8.5).


Diya Aur Baati Hum on Star Plus slipped to No. 2 with an average viewership of 9.5 TVM (last week 10.5 TVM).


Jodha Akbar on Zee TV too slipped one position to No. 3 and garnered 8.9 TVM (last week 8.5 TVM).


Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai held its position at No. 4. The show garnered an average viewership of 6.3 TVM (last week 7.3 TVM).


Star Plus' epic series, Mahabharat, was at No. 5 position with an average viewership of 6 TVM this week (last week 6.3 TVM).


Saraswatichandra on Star Plus grew to 5.8 TVM this week and entered the top 10 list (last week 5 TVM).


Pyaar Ka Dard Hai on Star Plus was at No. 7 position with 5.6 TVM (last week 6.3).


SAB's Taarak Mehta ka Ooltah Chashma recovered this week and reached at No. 8. The show garnered an average viewership of 5.6 TVM (last week 5.2 TVM).


Yeh Hai Mohabbatein on Star Plus lost eyeballs this week and slipped to ninth position. The show recorded an average viewership of 5.5 TVM (last week 6.7 TVM).


Veera on Star Plus witnessed decline in its viewership and slipped to No. 10 position. The show had an average viewership of 5.3 TVM (last week 6.4 TVM).


Weekend toppers

Comedy Night with Kapil on Colors continued to be most watched show during the weekend despite a decline in its viewership. The show fetched an average viewership of 5.5 TVM in Week 20 (last week 6.9).


Colors' flagship show, Fear Factor - Khatron Ke Khiladi, grew to 5.3 TVM (last week 4.9).


Dance India Dance L'il Masters Season 3 on Zee TV retained the third position among weekend shows with 3.3 TVM (last week 3.1 TVM).


Sony's crime series, CID, fetched 3.3 TVM against last week's 3 TVM.

Colors' Mission Sapne grew in its second week at 2.9 TVM from 1.9 TVM in its launch week.


Life OK's Shapath grew to 2.6 TVM (last week 2.5).


Hatim on Life OK recorded 2.5 TVM (last week 2.4).


Fear Files on Zee TV grew to 2.2 TVM this week (last week 1.9).


Sony's second crime show, Crime Patrol, garnered 2.1 TVM (last week 2.3).


Encounter on Sony retained its average viewership of 1.3 TVM.

Star Plus and Sab the only gainers in TAM Ratings

MUMBAI: In the week 21 of TAM TV ratings, there are only two general entertainment channels (GECs) which gained the maximum eyeballs. One is the leader in this space, Star Plus which inched closer to 700 million mark once again and second is Sab. Rest other channels witnessed a drop in the viewership.

At number one, Star Plus recorded 699,034 GVTs, up from 680,792 GVTs it had recorded last week. Its chart topper Diya Aur Baati Hum is scaling new heights week after week. It garnered 9,971 TVTs, up from 9,484 TVTs. Saathiya Saath is the second highest rated show for the channel which saw a drop and rated 8,585 TVTs, down from 9,791 TVTs. The channel's another fiction offering, Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai saw increase in the viewership and stood at 6,432 TVTs, up from 6,275 TVTs. Another fiction property which needs applaud is Ye Hai Mohababtein, which sees a growth every week despite being at the late prime time slot (11pm). It reported 6,768 TVTs, up from 5,523 TVTs.

The second highest gainer of the week was Sab, which despite the hike remained at number six. The channel garnered 266,714 GVTs, up from 258,013 GVTs. Its chart topper Taarak Mehta noted 5,558 TVTs, down from 5,585 TVTs. The channel's game show - Sab Khelo sab Jeeto saw a rise in the viewership and stood at 1,454 TVTs, up from 1,233 TVTs and Balveer noted 2,343 TVTs, down from 2,597 TVTs.

Coming back to the channel which holds the second position strongly is Zee TV. It scored 386,568 GVTs, down from 394,023 GVTs. Its sting in the comedy space Gangs of Haseepur lost numbers and scored 1,297 TVTs, down from 1,605 TVTs. The channel's historical series Jodha Akbar too lost eyeballs and reported 7,947 TVTs, down from 8,948 TVTs.

Colors occupied third position and scored 359,877 GVTs, down from 367,024 GVTs. It was the finale weekend for its reality show - Khatron Ke Khiladi which saw a marginal rise in the ratings. It garnered 5,469 TVTs, up from 5,310 TVTs. On the other hand, Comedy Nights with Kapil also saw a huge drop in the ratings and rated 5,628 TVTs, down from 5,930 TVTs. Talking about its fiction offerings; Madhubala recorded a fall and noticed 2,527 TVTs, down from 2,757 TVTs, Balika Vadhu registered a growth and stood at 4,183 TVTs, up from 4,098 TVTs and Rangrasiya also witnessed a rise and noted 2,603 TVTs, up from 2,563 TVTs.

At number four stood Life OK with 332,689 GVTs, down from 353,689 GVTs. Its fiction property, Tumhari Pakhi, seems to attract eyeballs as it saw a huge rise with 2,656 TVTs, up from 2,391 TVTs. Second to the list is its crime property - Shapath which saw a drop and measured 2,308 TVTs, down from 2,614 TVTs. Savdhan India noted 2,290 TVTs, down from 2,395 TVTs.

Talking about Sony Entertainment Television which stood at number six garnered 312,543 GVTs, down from 312,921 GVTs. CID is the top charter this week. It garnered 3,159 TVTs, up from 3,300 TVTs. Second to the list is Maharan Veer Pratap which reported 3,123 TVTs, down from 3,222 TVTs. Its reality show Entertainment Ke Liye Kuch Bhi Karega witnessed a huge fall and scored 2,084 TVTs, down from 2,698 TVTs.

In the movie genre: Zee Cinema reported 188,748 GVTs, up from 185,199 GVTs; Movies OK scored 132,202 GVTs, down from 133,665 GVTs; &pictures garnered 95,214 GVTs, up from 88,326 GVTs; Zee Anmol earned 69,811 GVTs, down from 72,345 GVTs and Max registered a huge hike as it recorded 582,127 GVTs, up from 445,130 GVTs.

GEC Watch: Star Plus holds 7 slots in top 10 weekday shows

Zee TV grows to two shows while SAB continues to hold one slot in top 10. Khatron Ke Khiladi finale delivers 5.9 TVM to Colors in Week 22 of TAM 2014

Hindi general entertainment channels witnessed a churn in their viewership in the IPL finale week. Most of the top performing primetime shows across channels dropped further in Week 22 of TAM 2014.


According to TVT data sourced from TAM subscribers for Week 22 of TAM 2014 (May 25 - May 31) CS 4+, HSM markets, Star Plus continued to lead with 7 shows in the top 10 weekday shows despite the drop in viewership across channels. Zee TV grew to two shows while SAB TV retained one slot in the top 10.


Colors continued dominate weekend programming. Fear Factor - Khatron Ke Khiladi' topped the weekend chart this week with its finale episode delivering 5.9 TVM. Comedy Nights with Kapil' was the second most watched show during the weekend.

Diya Aur Baati Hum on Star Plus continued to be at the top with an average viewership of 8.7 TVM (last week 10 TVM).


Jodha Akbar on Zee TV jumped one position to No. 2 this week. The show garnered 8 TVM (last week 7.9 TVM).


Star Plus' Saathiya dropped to 6.9 TVM and No. 3 position (last week 8.6).


Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai held its position at No. 4. The show garnered an average viewership of 6.3 TVM (last week 6.4 TVM).


Yeh Hai Mohabbatein on Star Plus slipped one position to No. 5 this week. The show recorded an average viewership of 6.1 TVM (last week 6.8 TVM).


Star Plus' epic series, Mahabharat, was at No. 6 with an average viewership of 5.5 TVM this week (last week 6.4 TVM).

Riding on the grand finale on Sunday, May 25, Colors' flagship show,


Fear Factor - Khatron Ke Khiladi, topped the weekend chart. The finale episode delivered 5.9 TVM (last week 5.5).


Comedy Night with Kapil on Colors was the second most watched show during the weekend. The show fetched an average viewership of 5.2 TVM in Week 22 (last week 5.6).


Sony's crime series, CID, fetched 3.1 TVM against last week's 3.2 TVM.


Dance India Dance L'il Masters Season 3 on Zee TV dropped to 2.8 TVM (last week 3.4 TVM).


Life OK's Shapath grew to 2.8 TVM (last week 2.3).


Colors' Mission Sapne grew to 2.4 TVM from 2.0 TVM in last week.


Fear Files on Zee TV grew to 2.1 TVM this week (last week 1.7).


Sony's Entertainment Ke Liye Kuchh Bhi Karega fetched an average viewership of 2.1 TVM (last week 2.1).

GEC Watch: Life OK retains No. 3 position, inches closer to No. 2

The channel strengthens its position further and is now 12 GTVM behind Zee TV in Week 23 of TAM 2014

When Hindi general entertainment channels kept shedding viewership during IPL, Life OK continued to add viewers. After taking No. 3 position last week, the channel has further strengthened its position and is now at the kissing distance from Zee TV.


According to data sourced from TAM subscribers for Week 23 of TAM 2014 (June 1 - June 7) for CS 4+, HSM markets, Star Plus dropped further but retained the top position with a huge margin. Zee TV too witnessed decline in viewership while the new No. 3 channel, Life OK, consolidated its position and is now 12 GTVM away from Zee TV. Colors, Sony and SAB TV remained at No. 4, No. 5 and No. 6, respectively.


Star Plus' gross viewership dropped further to 647 GTVMs but its relative share grew to 27.83% (last week 655 TVM with 27.72% relative share).


Zee TV lost 17 TVM and recorded 383 GTVM in Week 23. The channel had a relative share of 16.47% (last week 400 TVM and 16.93% relative share).


Life OK strengthened its position and recorded a gross viewership of 371 GTVM with a relative share of 15.96% (last week 365 TVM and 15.45%).


Colors added a few eyeballs to reach 350 GTVM with a relative share of 15.05%. (last week 347 TVM with 14.68% relative share).


Sony lost 27 TVM and garnered a gross viewership of 313 TVM with a relative share of 13.46%. (last week 340 TVM and 14.39% relative share).


SAB TV gained in Week 23 and recorded 261 TVM and recorded a relative share of 11.23% (last week 256 TVM and 10.83% relative share).

IPL final on Max clocks 17.8 mn TVM; Life OK remains at No. 3

MUMBAI: The final match of the seventh edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL), between Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Kings XI Punjab (KXIP), delivered a viewership of 17.8 million television viewership in millions (TVM) on Max, the official broadcaster of the sporting event.

As per TAM data for the Hindi-speaking markets (sourced from subscribers), the gross viewership stood at 128 million in the week ended 7 May.

In fact, the airing of the IPL on Multi Screen Media's (MSM) sports channel Six delivered a viewership of 1.9 million or a gross of 14 million.

As the IPL came to an end, total viewership of Max dropped to 309 million gross television viewership in millions (GVMs), from 470 million in the previous week.

The end of the IPL also saw a drop in the Hindi movie genre's overall viewership. The genre lost 193 million GVMs during Week 23 to end the week with 1,127 million GVMs, compared to 1,320 million in the trailing week.

Hindi news also saw a loss of 67 million GVMs, while Hindi general entertainment channels (GECs) dropped by just 13 million GVMs.

week-23-genre Kids and sports genre, however, saw an increase of 12 million and 19 million GVMs, respectively.

The GEC order

Among the Hindi GECs, the pecking order remained unchanged with Star Plus, Zee TV and last week's No. 3 Life OK taking up the top three positions once again.

While Star Plus, Zee TV and Sony Entertainment (SET) lost viewership, Life OK, Colors and SAB made some gains.

Star Plus lost 8 million GVMs to end the week with 647, compared to 655 million in the previous week. It still held on to 27.5 per cent share of the Hindi GECs (non-free-to-air). Zee TV lost 17 million, Life OK added 6 million GVMs.

Life Ok was also aided by the premier of Salman Khan-starrer Jai Ho', which fetched it 4.5 million TVM and a gross viewership of 26.8 million.

Colors was at No. 4 with 350 million GVMs. Its new reality show"Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa - Grand Premier Night' on Saturday at 9 pm clocked 5.3 million with a reach of 25.2 million. It got a time spent per viewer (TSV) of 31.3 minutes, contributing a gross viewership of 26.3 million to the channel.

SET, at No. 5, lost 27 million GVM during the week, while SAB added 5 million and remained at the sixth spot.

Top 10 fiction programmes

Star Plus had seven shows (Diya Aur Baati Hum', Saathiya Saath Nibhana', Yeh Hai Mohabbatein', Yeh Rishta', Mahabharata', Veera' and Pyaar Ka Dard') while Zee TV had two show (Jodha Akbar' and Do Dil Bandhe') in the top 10 fiction list. SAB had Tarak Mehta...' in the list. No shows from Life OK, Colors or SET made it to the list.

Top non-fiction/ Weekend programmes

Colors' Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa' debuted at No. 1 during the week, while its Comedy Nights with Kapil' was the No. 2 show with 4.4 million. At the third spot was SET's CID' with 3.7 million, followed by DID Little Masters 3' (Zee TV) at No. 4 with 3.2 million and Life OK's Shapath' at No. 5 with 2.7 million.

Star Plus had a reach of 118.2 million, followed by Life OK with 109.8 million, Zee TV 108.9 million, Colors with 106.8 million, SET with 105.0 million and SAB with 86.6 million.

Time spent per viewer

Star Plus had a TSV of 164 minutes, followed by Zee TV's 106 minutes, Life OK's 101 minutes, Colors' 98 minutes, SAB's 91 minutes and SET's 89 minutes.
