GEC Watch: Star Plus dominates weekday programming with 7 shows in top 10


Zee TV has 2 shows followed by SAB with one show among top 10 weekday programmes. Colors' no-show continues in Week 13 of TAM 2014

Hindi general entertainment channels witnessed growth in their weekday primetime viewership in Week 13 of TAM 2014 after last week's intense cricket activity. As Colors' no-show in weekday top 10 programmes continued this week, Star Plus strengthened its leadership with 7 shows in top 10 weekday shows. According to TVT data sourced from TAM subscribers for Week 13 of TAM 2014 (March 23 - March 29) CS 4+, HSM markets, Zee TV had two shows in the top 10 followed by SAB with one show.


Among weekend programming, Comedy Nights with Kapil continued to be the chart topper followed by Khatron Ke Khiladi on Colors and Star Plus' Satyamev Jayate.


Satyamev Jayate' simulcast in its fourth week rated 6.4 TVM on All India All 4+. Television premiere of Krrish 3 on Sony garnered 10.7 TVM.

Diya Aur Baati Hum on Star Plus topped the weekday programming chart with 11.7 TVM this week (last week 10.2 TVM).


Star Plus' Saathiya was the second most watched show during the weekdays. The show fetched an average viewership of 9.8 TVM (last week 10.2).


Jodha Akbar on Zee TV retained its No. 3 slot. The show fetched an average viewership of 9.4 TVM (last week 9.1 TVM).


Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai on Star Plus climbed one position to No. 4 with an average viewership of 7.7 TVM (last week 6.8 TVM).


SAB's Taarak Mehta ka Ooltah Chashma slipped one position to No. 5. Its viewership was unchanged at 7.3 TVM.

GEC Watch: Star Plus' dominance continues in weekday, Colors rules weekend programming

As Star Plus continued to dominate the weekday programming with seven of its shows in top-10, Zee TV reduced to one show in Week 14 of TAM 2014.


According to TVT data sourced from TAM subscribers for Week 14 of TAM 2014 (March 30 - April 5) CS 4+, HSM markets, Colors' no-show in weekday top-10 ended this week and the channel secured a slot. SAB's Tarak Mehta continued to be in the top-10 club.


Weekend programming was clearly dominated by Colors with Comedy Nights with Kapil at the top followed by Khatron Ke Khiladi. Special episode of Comedy Nights with Kapil with Amitabh Bachchan as the guest on Saturday rated 11.1 TVM.


The final episode of Satyamev Jayate' on Star Plus garnered 5.9 TVM in All India All 4+.

Diya Aur Baati Hum on Star Plus retained the top slot among the weekday shows with 11.9 TVM this week (last week 11.7 TVM).

Mahabharat witnesses surge in viewership in Week 15 of TAM 2014. Encounter on Sony opens at 2.4 TVM while Naadan Parindey on Life OK launches at 2.6 TVM

The game of dice leading to Draupdi's cheer haran' took Mahabhart at its peak viewership and helped Star Plus clock the highest GTVMs ever achieved by any channel in Indian Television History. As Mahabharat entered the top-5 club with 9.1 TVM, Star Plus' other shows Diya Aur Baati Hum, Saathiya and Saraswatichandra also performed exceptionally well.


According to TVT data sourced from TAM subscribers for Week 15 of TAM 2014 (April 6 - April 12) CS 4+, HSM markets, Star Plus' dominance in the weekday programming grew further with higher viewership for its seven shows in top-10. Zee TV too witnessed surge in viewership of its weekday shows and the channel secured two slots in top-10 club. SAB's Tarak Mehta continued to be in the top-10 club.

GEC Watch: Unfazed by IPL, Star Plus inches closer to 800-mn mark

Zee TV and Life OK also add more viewers in Week 16 of TAM 2014. Sony, SAB and Colors hit by IPL

The first week of IPL7 has had no impact on the viewership of Star Plus and the channel hit another record by inching closer to the 800-million mark. Zee TV and Life OK have also bucked the trend to grow further in Week 16 of TAM 2014.


IPL has traditionally hit overall viewership of Hindi general entertainment channels, and this time too the Hindi GEC genre has dropped to 2,710 TVM from last week's 2,790 TVM. The three channels badly hit by IPL were Sony, SAB and Colors.


According to data sourced from TAM subscribers for Week 16 of TAM 2014 (April 13 - April 19) for CS 4+, HSM markets, there was no any change in pecking order. Star Plus continued to lead the pack with a huge margin followed by Zee TV, Colors, Life OK, SAB and Sony.


Star Plus added 43 TVM to its gross viewership to reach at 791 TVM. The relative share of Star Plus grew to 30.47% (last week 748 TVM with 28.11% relative share).


Zee TV too improved its viewership and recorded a GTVM of 473 and a relative share of 18.22% (last week 464 TVM with 17.44% relative share).


Colors dropped further to 433 GTVM with a relative share of 16.68% (last week 451 TVM with 16.95% relative share).


Life OK strengthened its position at No. 4 by adding 13 TVM to its gross viewership. The channel recorded a GVTM of 389 TVM and a relative share of 14.98% (last week 376 TVM and 14.13%).


SAB TV suffered a huge loss due to IPL and dropped to 266 TVM. The channel's relative share grew to 10.25% (last week 314 TVM and 11.80% relative share).


Sony was the channel to lose maximum viewership in Week 16. By losing 64 TVM to its gross viewership, the channel recorded 244 TVM and a relative share of 9.40% (last week 308 TVM and 11.57% relative share).

MUMBAI: Hindi general entertainment channel (GEC) genre leader Star Plus is scaling new heights every week. Boosted by the world TV premiere of Salman Khan starrer Jai Ho', the numero uno channel has added 43 million GVMs (gross TV Viewership in million) in the week ended 19 April to end the week with a historic score of 791 million GVMs.

Star Plus' leading fiction show Diya Aur Bati Hum' has got 14.5 million TVM, highest ever for any fiction property.


Zee TV and Life OK were the only other GECs that witnessed gain in the week ended 19 April, as per TAM data for the Hindi-speaking markets (sourced from subscribers).


Here is how the Hindi GECs performed:

Star Plus sits on top with 791 million GVMs, up from 748 million in the trailing week.

Zee TV is No. 2 with 473 million, up from 464 million.

Colors is at No. 3 with 433 million, down from 451 million.

Life OK is at No. 4 with 389 million, up from 376 million.

SAB is 5th with 266 million, down from 314 million.

SET is No. 6 with 244 million, down from 308 million.

In the opening week of IPL 7, Star Plus and Zee TV grew on their weekend programming with Star Plus breaking all records by fetching the highest ratings ever achieved by any television channel in India. Not only this, Star Plus' Diya Aur Baati Hum' scaled a new high at 14.5 TVM which is the highest ever viewership for any fiction programme.


Sony Max and Sony Six together saw an increase of 252 Gross TVMs on account of IPL.

The world television premiere of Salman Khan starrer Jai Ho' on Star Plus fetched 7.9 TVM. FBB Femina Miss India event on Colors rated 2.8 TVM over two hours.


Among new shows launched this week, Zee TV's weekday offering Kumkum Bhagya', which replaced Pavitra Rishta' in the 9 PM slot, launched at 4.7 TVM and averaged at 3.3 TVM for the week. Pavitra Rishta rated 2.1 TVM in its new 6.30 PM slot.

GEC Watch: Star Plus hits new milestone with 8 shows in weekday top 10


Star Plus' weekday primetime viewership equalled the combined total of Zee and Colors. Sony is the only Hindi GEC to grow in the second week of IPL 7 on the back of Umang 2014

The impact of IPL on Hindi general entertainment channels became visible in the second week of the cricket tournament as all GECs except Sony witnessed decline in viewership. Sony jumped one position to No. 5 on the back of double airing of the event Umang 2014 in Week 17 of TAM 2014. The event rated 2.7 TVM at 2 PM and 2.1 TVM at 5 PM over 6 hours.


Star Plus touched another landmark by pulling off 8 slots in the top 10 weekday shows for the first time in recent years. Star Plus' weekday primetime viewership equaled the combined total of Zee and Colors put together.


According to TVT data sourced from TAM subscribers for Week 17 of TAM 2014 (April 20 - April 26) CS 4+, HSM markets, Star Plus witnessed decline in its gross viewership but maintained the huge lead margin of 298 TVM over next channel, Zee TV. Star Plus had recorded a gross viewership of 743 TVM and a relative share of 29.51% this week (last week 791 TVM with 30.47% relative share).


At No.2, Zee TV also dropped to 445 TVM against last week's 473 TVM. Its relative share dropped to 17.67% (last week 18.22%). The channel had one show in the top 10 weekday shows.


Colors recorded a slight decline in gross viewership but a small growth in its relative share. The channel fetched 423 TVM and a relative of 16.80% (last week 433 TVM and 16.68% relative share). The channel retained top two slots in weekend programming but continued with no-show in weekday top 10.


Life OK too lost a huge chunk of eyeballs this week and recorded a gross viewership of 350 TVM with a relative share of 13.90% (last week 389 TVM and 14.98% relative share).


Sony was the only channel that recorded a surge in viewership in Week 17. The channel overtook SAB TV at No. 5 on the back of the double airing of Umang 2014. The channel recorded a gross viewership of 297 TVM and a relative share of 11.80% (last week 244 TVM and 9.40% relative share).


SAB TV slipped to No. 6 position with 260 GTVM and a relative share of 10.33% (last week 266 TVM and 10.25% relative share). The channel had one show in top 10 weekday shows.

Zee TV and Colors shed high in Wk 18 of TAM TV Ratings

MUMBAI: Week 18 of TAM TV ratings was a dull period for the major general entertainment channels (GECs). Zee TV and Colors were the two channels that suffered the most, this week.

Despite shedding numbers, Zee TV continues to stand at number two with 409,010 GVTs, down from 444,500 GVTs. Its new entrant in the comedy space Gangs of Haseepur lost numbers in the second consecutive week and registered 1,916 TVTs, a major fall from 2,727 TVTs. The channel's historical series Jodha Akbar also saw a drop in its viewership and registered 9,139 TVTs, down from 9,834 TVTs. Its other fictional offerings like Do Dil Bandhe... saw a major rise and noted 5,179 TVTs, up from 4,941 TVTs.

Colors occupied the third place with 396,193 GVTs, down from 423,262 GVTs. All its popular fictional offerings have witnessed a fall in the ratings. Thus, Madhubala recorded 2,925 TVTs, down from 3,106 TVTs; Balika Vadhu saw a slight fall and noted 4,440 TVTs, down from 4,545 TVTs and Uttaran garnered 3,254 TVTs, down from 3,485 TVTs. On the other hand, the channel's reality shows have created a boom. Comedy Nights with Kapil reported 7,198 TVTs, up from 6,992 TVTs, Khatron Ke Khiladi five scored 6,570 TVTs, up from 5,752 TVTs.

Star Plus, even after shedding numbers stands strong at number one. Its chart topper Diya Aur Baati Hum scored 12,233 TVTs, down from 13,301 TVTs. Saathiya Saath is the second highest rated show for the channel which saw a drop and rated 8,885 TVTs, down from 9,503 TVTs. Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai has seen a new rise every week. This week it scored 7,573 TVTs, up from 7,490 TVTs.

Life OK stays happy at number four with 360,213 GVTs, up from 349,580 GVTs. The channel's most popular series Shapath recorded 2,852 TVTs, a slight rise from 2,546 TVTs. Savdhan India noted 2,480 TVTs, up from 2,153 TVTs. Its reality show Welcome Bazi showcased a slight rise and generated 1,473 TVTs, up from 1,322 TVTs.

Sony Entertainment Television maintained its stability at number five and registered 290,948 GVTs, down from 297,073 GVTs. Jee Le Zara reported 1,297 TVTs, down from 1,305 TVTs, Maharana Pratap garnered 2,858 TVTs, a slight high from 2,828 TVTs. Its crime property Crime Patrol garnered 2,680 TVTs, up from 2,624 TVTs.

Last but not the least, Sab which stands at number six scored 267,113 GVTs, up from 260,127 GVTs. Its chart topper Taarak Mehta noted 5,880 TVTs, down from 6,098 TVTs. The channel's game show - Sab Khelo sab Jeeto saw a rise in the viewership and stood at 1,582 TVTs, up from 1,456 TVTs.

In the movie genre: Zee Cinema reported 18,8125 GVTs, down from 203,672 GVTs; Movies OK scored 143,794 GVTs, up from 123,291 GVTs; &pictures garnered 82,537 GVTs, up from 85,904 GVTs; Zee Anmol earned 74,074 GVTs, up from 71,400 GVTs and Max registered a fall, as it recorded 457,415 GVTs, down from 495,922 GVTs.
