Colors back to third position in TAM TV ratings

MUMBAI: In the week 24 of TAM TV ratings, the Hindi general entertainment channels (GECs) have come back to their original ranking. While Life OK enjoyed the third position in the ratings chart for the past two weeks, the channel is now back to being number four. The channel witnessed a huge drop in the viewership and reported 319 million GVTs, down from 371 million GVTs.

The week has brought back reasons to cheer for Colors. It was a big win for the channel as it saw a huge hike in the ratings. It noted 365,827 GVTs, up from 349,916 GVTs. So what worked wonders for the channel? Its first-of-its-kind property, Mission Sapne which allows celebrities from different walks of life to leverage their fame for the benefit of the common man saw a rise in the ratings. It scored 2,836 TVTs, up from 1,458 TVTs. On the other hand, Comedy Nights with Kapil also witnessed a jump in the viewership with 5,582 TVTs, up from 4,353 TVTs.

Sab was another gainer for the week as it registered 286,993 GVTs, up from 261,401 GVTs at number six. Its fiction offerings have worked well for the channel. Thus, the channel's chart topper Tarak Mehta scored 6,159 TVTs, up from 5,898 TVTs, Jeanie Aur Juju noticed 3,075 TVTs, up from 1,284 TVTs and Chidiya Ghar registered 2,448 TVTs, up from 2,180 TVTs.

Coming back to the numero uno Star Plus, the channel continues to top the ladder with 625,842 GVTs, down from 647,073 GVTs. The channel's mythological series Mahabharat is adding new numbers every week as it scored 6,472 TVTs, up from 5,965 TVTs. Its chart topper Diya Aur Baati Hum witnessed a fall in the ratings as it scored 9,361 TVTs, down from 9,626 TVTs. The second highest rated show Ye Hai Mohababtein also saw a drop in the viewership as it scored 6,263 TVTs, down from 6,644 TVTs.

Despite a fall, Zee TV retains its number two position with 375,662 GVTs, down from 382,949 GVTs. Its historic property Jodha Akbar scored 7,736 TVTs, down from 7,864 TVTs. Kumkum Bhagya saw a rise in the ratings and registered 3,538 TVTs, up from 3,246 TVTs. The channel's dance property DID Lil Masters 3 stood at 3,143 TVTs, down from 3,241 TVTs.

Life OK's most of the fiction properties sees a drop in the ratings. Thus, Gustakh Dil scored 2,019 TVTs, down from 2,543 TVTs, Tumhari Pakhi noted 2,515 TVTs, down from 2,594 TVTs. The channel's non-fiction properties Shapath garnered 2,510 TVTs, down from 2,698 TVTs and Savdhan India scored 2,348 TVTs, down from 2,550 TVTs.

In the movie genre: Zee Cinema reported 206,409 GVTs, up from 197,218 GVTs; Movies OK scored 142,870 GVTs, up from 139,727 GVTs; &pictures garnered 97,216 GVTs, up from 88,669 GVTs; Zee Anmol earned 65,919 GVTs, down from 70,721 GVTs and Max registered a fall, as it recorded 242,263 GVTs, down from 308, 987 GVTs.

Star Plus, Zee TV & Life OK gain big




MUMBAI: The war for the best among the rest' continues even as the general entertainment channels (GECs) saw no change in the positions this week. In the week 25 of TAM TV ratings, while Star Plus, Zee TV and Life OK gained big, the other GECs saw a drop in the viewership.


Thus, Star Plus continues to be at the top with 660,737 GVTs, up from 625,842 GVTs. The channel's mythological series Mahabharat witnessed a slight drop and stood at 6,368 TVTs, down from 6,472 TVTs. Its fiction offerings also noticed a drop in the viewership. Thus, its chart topper Diya Aur Baati Hum recorded 8,953 TVTs, down from 9,361 TVTs, Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai noted 6,087 TVTs, down from 6,185 TVTs. But that wasn't the case with Saathiya Saath which saw a huge jump and scored 8,149 TVTs, up from 6,856 TVTs.

Second placed Zee registers 400,337 GVTs, up from 375,662 GVTs. Its historic property Jodha Akbar scored 7,664TVTs, down from 7,736TVTs. Kumkum Bhagya saw a rise in the ratings and registered 4,943 TVTs, up from 3,538 TVTs. Qubool Hai garnered 4,402 TVTs, up from 3,791 TVTs.

Despite a fall, Colors retained its number three position with 351,470 GVTs, down from 365,827 GVTs. Its first-of-its-kind property, Mission Sapne which allows celebrities from different walks of life to leverage their fame for the benefit of the common man, saw a drop in the ratings this week. It scored 1,668 TVTs, down from 2,836 TVTs. On the other hand, Comedy Nights with Kapil witnessed a jump in the viewership with 5,854 TVTs, up from 5,582 TVTs. Talking about the channel's fiction offerings; Balika Vadhu saw a rise in the ratings and noted 4,473 TVTs, up from 3,938 TVTs.

Life OK at number four witnessed 332,990 GVTs, up from 319,452 GVTs. Gustakh Dil scored 1,829 TVTs, down from 2,019 TVTs, Tumhari Pakhi noted 2,348 TVTs, down from 2,515 TVTs. The channel's non-fiction properties Shapath garnered 2,676 TVTs, up from 2,510 TVTs.

Sony Entertainment Television (SET) saw a fall in the ratings and garnered 297,528 GVTs, down from 300,118 GVTs. Maharan Veer Pratap recorded 3,148 TVTs, down from 3,341 TVTs. Entertainment Ke Liye Kuch Bhi Karega also witnessed a fall and registered 2,085 TVTs, down from 2,222 TVTs. CID stood at 3,341 TVTs, down from 3,411 TVTs.

Sab at number six garnered 279,412 GVTs, down from 286,993 GVTs. Its fiction offerings have worked well for the channel. Thus, the channel's chart topper Tarak Mehta scored 7,034 TVTs, up from 6,159 TVTs and Chidiya Ghar registered 2,777 TVTs, up from 2,448 TVTs.

GEC Watch: Dhoom 3 premiere yields bounty for Sony, fetches 8.2 TVM

Star Plus holds seven slots in top 10 weekday shows followed by Zee TV with three. SAB TV's Tarak Mehta remains in top 10 in Week 26

According to TVT data sourced from TAM subscribers for Week 26 of TAM 2014 (June 22 - June 28) CS 4+, HSM markets, Star Plus continued to hold seven slots in top 10 weekday shows. Zee TV managed to claim three slots while SAB TV's Tarak Mehta continued to be in top 10.


Among regular weekend programming, Colors retained its leadership with Comedy Nights with Kapil' at the top slot followed by Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa' at No. 2.


The world television premiere of Dhoom 3 on Sony fetched 8.2 TVM.


Colors' new show Meri Ashiqui Tumse Hi' opened at 2.9 TVM at 10 pm slot.



Weekday toppers (all data in TVM, 000000's)

Star Plus' Saathiya topped the weekday programming chart once again this week with an average viewership of 9.7 TVM (last week 8.1).


Diya Aur Baati Hum on Star Plus slipped to second position with an average viewership of 9.2 TVM (last week 9 TVM).


Jodha Akbar on Zee TV dropped further to an average viewership of 7.3 TVM (last week 7.7 TVM).


SAB's Taarak Mehta ka Ooltah Chashma held No. 4 position with an average viewership of 6.9 TVM (last week 7 TVM).


Star Plus' epic series, Mahabharat, continued to be at No. 5. The show fetched an average viewership of 6.7 TVM this week (last week 6.4 TVM).

Star Plus' Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai retained No. 6 position with an average viewership of 6 TVM (last week 6.1 TVM).

Yeh Hai Mohabbatein on Star Plus too was unmoved from No. 7. The show recorded an average viewership of 6 TVM (last week 5.7 TVM).

Kumkum Bhagya on Zee TV grew further and claimed No. 8 position with an average viewership of 5.4 TVM this week (last week 4.9 TVM).

Veera on Star Plus grew one position to No. 9 this week with an average viewership of 5.1 TVM (last week 4.8 TVM).

Pyaar Ka Dard Hai on Star Plus and Qubool Hai on Zee TV shared No. 10 position with an average viewership of 4.8 TVM.


Weekend toppers

Comedy Night with Kapil on Colors retained the top slot among regular weekend programming. The show fetched an average viewership of 5.9 TVM (last week 5.9).


Colors' celebrity dance reality show Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa dropped to 3.7 TVM in its fourth week. (last week 4.1).


Sony's crime series, CID, fetched 3.7 TVM against last week's 3.3 TVM.


Sony's Entertainment Ke Liye Kuchh Bhi Karega fetched an average viewership of 2.2 TVM (last week 2.1).


Hatim on Life OK recorded 2.1 TVM (last week 1.8).


Life OK's Shapath slipped to 1.9 TVM (last week 2.7).


Sony's second crime show, Crime Patrol, garnered 1.9 TVM (last week 2.4).


Mission Sapne dropped this week to 1.5 TVM from 1.7 TVM in last week.


Fear Files on Zee TV fetched 1.2 TVM this week (last week 1.7).

GEC Watch: Star Plus crosses 700 mn-mark; Life OK retains No. 3 position

Zee TV gains maximum 56 TVMs on the back of television premiere of Mein Tera Hero' in Week 27 that beats Dhoom 3' premiere on Sony last week

Star Plus and Zee TV were the only two Hindi general entertainment channels to grow in Week 27 of TAM 2014. While Star Plus' growth helped it cross 700 million-mark this week, Zee TV added maximum 56 TVMs on the back of the television premiere of Mein Tera Hero' that surprised all by beating Dhoom 3' premiere on Sony a week ago.


According to data sourced from TAM subscribers for Week 27 of TAM 2014 (June 29 - July 5) for CS 4+, HSM markets, Life OK retained No. 3 position followed by Colors, Sony and SAB TV at No. 4, No. 5 and No. 6, respectively.


Star Plus strengthened its leadership by adding 44 TVM in Week 27 and crossed the 700 million-mark yet again. The channel fetched a gross viewership of 704 GTVMs with a relative share of 29.15% (last week 660 TVM with 27.26% relative share).


Zee TV added maximum 56 TVMs on the back of the world television premiere of Main Tera Hero' and recorded 479 GTVM. The channel had a relative share of 19.83% (last week 423 TVM and 17.47% relative share).


Life OK retained its No. 3 position in the second consecutive week despite a slight drop in its viewership. The channel fetched a gross viewership of 348 GTVM and a relative share of 14.41% (last week 358 TVM and 14.79%).


Colors dropped further to 320 GTVM with a relative share of 13.25% (last week 351 TVM with 14.50% relative share).


Sony lost maximum 61 TVM this week and dropped to 288 TVM. The channel had a relative share of 11.93% (last week 349 TVM and 14.42% relative share).


SAB TV too witnessed a slight decline in its viewership and recorded 276 TVM with a relative share of 11.43% (last week 280 TVM and 11.57% relative share).

With Parivar' support, Star Plus reaches 700mn mark once again

MUMBAI: After a long gap, leading Hindi general entertainment channel (GEC) Star Plus has once again reached the 700 million mark by garnering 704 million GVMs (gross television viewership in millions) in the week ended 5 July.

The only other gainer in Week 27, as per TAM data sourced from the subscribers, was Zee TV which clocked in 479 million from 423 million in the trailing week and maintained its second spot on the chart.

Life OK once again held on to its third position despite a loss of 10 million GVMs to garner 348 million GVMs in the week.


Coming in fourth was Colors which fell by 31 million GVMs and clocked in 320 million.


Sony Entertainment Television (SET) too witnessed a steep fall of 61 million to attain 288 million GVMs.


SAB came in sixth with 276 million GVMs, down from the 280 million in Week 26. Sahara One was the seventh on the chart with 15 million GVMs.


With most of the channels witnessing a drop in viewership, it affected the overall TV viewership too. The Hindi GEC genre which gained 99 million GVMs in Week 26 saw a drop of 13 million GVMs in Week 27 to record 2,627 million GVMs. The overall TV viewership too dropped by 51 million to garner 6,848 million GVMs.

The two gainers, Star Plus and Zee TV, witnessed a boost on the back of special programming during the week. While Star saw its award property Star Parivaar Awards' fetch a viewership of 7.7 million contributing a gross viewership of 46.7 million to the channel, Zee grew due to the premiere of the Hindi feature film Main Tera Hero' which clocked in a viewership of 8.7 million and its second airing delivered a viewership of 3.8 million. The movie contributed a gross viewership of 73 million to the channel.

Zee TV also saw the launch of its new non-fiction property Cinestars Ki Khoj' which clocked in a viewership of 3.5 million and contributed a gross viewership of 11.6 million to the channel from its original airing.

Top 10 fiction shows

Star Plus was back with seven shows in the top 10 list, with Pyaar Ka Dard...' displacing Zee TV's Qubool Hai'. Zee TV thus had only two shows in the list, while SAB had one show. No shows from Colors, SET or Life OK featured on the list once again.


The top 10 shows included Star Plus' Saathiya Saath Nibhana' which remained the slot leader and garnered an average viewership of 9.4 million, Diya Aur Baati Hum' with 9.2 million, Zee TV's Jodha Akbar' with 8 million, Star's Yeh Rishta...' with 7.4 million, SAB's Taarak Mehta...' with 7 million, Star's Mahabharat' with 6.4 million, Zee's latest entrant Kumkum Bhagya' with 6.3 million, back with Star's Ye Hai Mohabbatein' clocking in 5.8 million, Veera' with 5.4 million and Pyaar ka Dard' garnering an average viewership of 5.3 million.


Top non-fiction shows

Colors' Comedy Nights with Kapil' continued to be the number one show in the category with an average viewership of 5.9 million. This was followed by SET's CID' with 5.1 million and Colors' other non-fiction property Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa' with 3.9 million average viewership.


Life OK's Savdhaan India' came in fourth with 3.6 million, while Zee TV's Cinestars Ki Khoj' wrapped up the top five shows in the category with 3.5 million GVMs in Week 27.


Reach

Star Plus' reach was at 116.6 million, down from 120 million, followed by Zee TV at 111.9 million, up from 109.6 million and Life OK at 111.1 million, down 111.8 million in the trailing week. Colors was at 104 million, down from 110.4 million, SET was 103.1 million, down from 112.2 million and SAB was 85.3 million, down from 86.9 million.

Time spent per viewer

Star Plus' TSV improved to 181 minutes from 165 minutes previously, and so did Zee TV's to 128 minutes from 116 minutes. While SAB's TSV remained constant at 97 minutes, Life OK's TSV dropped to 95 minutes from 96 minutes, and Colors' TSV dropped to 92 minutes from 96 minutes. SET's TSV dropped from 93 minutes to 84 minutes in Week 27.
