Aarti: I am at a loss of words , to express myself at the moment , after reading your critique.

Honored, humbled, ecstatic... a mixture of all this at moment is what I feel.

To have my work , critqued by you is an honor, for someone who has such indepth knowledge of literature and the nuances of writing and characterization.

I do admit, the first reading of it, left me spell bound, that my work was indeed considered worthwhile and commendable and worth the time to be painfully critiqued.

That , so many concepts and theories can be associated with a piece of work to critique it was a revelation.

I am really humbled. Certain aspects that you have mentioned in the critique are concepts I have not heard of myself and I realize now, that I have with out conscious knowledge incorporated them in my writing and I will need to reread your critque and also read about them to better understand it all.

Your critique has actually given an insight as where I stand as a writer , and understanding of the art of writing, and most importantly helped me appreciate writing as an art and the importance of the different aspects of writing and I sure know, henceforth, I would be able to better appreciate a peice of work , or a book , when I read one!

Wish to continue the discussion via PM. Will do so in a moment.

Much Love,
Sareeta

Aarti: Seems like there is trouble editing the post, with some internet error being thrown. Will add the comment in the title in a while. I wanted to add it too, for ppl interested in the critique to be able to know.

First of all thank you so very much. First time I get firsthand experience of how a literary piece is critiqued. Very very Informative as usual. Thank you so very much for taking time to do it for us. Such a pleasure.

It was interesting how you pointed out the different styles of writing which come into play. I will have to read them up in fact. There is so much to learn always from your posts. Liked the way you pointed out that though the style is existential, there is potrayal of hope. My only tyrst with this style was in Hindi during my degree course, we had a poem where the teacher explained to us the style of writing (Called it pragativad ) and the poem was very dry and depressing. Loved the way you pointed out the way Sareeta maintains the linearity and continuity of thought inspite of the use of flashbacks, the elements being linked to the two characters, liked the way you described the spiral used to signal flashbacks in olden day movies, made me nostalgic! It is interesting to note the way you have explained about the symbiotic relationship between the two characters. Interesting to note that you have used the word symbiosis where each gains from the other but are mutually beneficial with no undue demands being placed on each other.

Your critique gives greater insight into Sareeta's writing and indepth understanding of how things are put down and also the nuances we missed.

The observation on breaking shackles of patriarchy by using informal language, I have to look up and read and understand further. The imagery evoked by Sareeta as you said is truly amazing. You can hear the waves roar and the salty breeze on your face.

All in all a very informative, interesting, indepth analysis of Sareeta's short story. Stokes ones interest to get to know the different styles of writing, the intention behind the writing, the nature of the characters, and also that there is more to a piece of literary work that meets the eye.

PS For the first time in years felt like going back to college, being a student again just for the pleasure of learning something interesting. I guess but then I would have to know where you teach, what courses, and how I can enrol myself cos I would want you to be the prof and none else. 😊 😳
