@ Viper833

I'll be happy if you put your opinion clearly.

@Everyone

I'm sorry if I've said something irrelevant to the topic in my previous post!

So many points can be quoted to prove that the Puranas are contradicting or have later interpolations but my intention is not that.
These 18 Puranas have still a valuable place in the life of Hindus.
But we cannot blindly follow them.We have to decipher them scientifically and base them on reason and facts without any exaggeration or distortion.

@viraaga...thanks for remembering and appreciating my post 😊.

As to Vishnu-Vrinda, I agree mostly with what Srujaji has written, that Vrinda, the jivatma, merged with the Paramatma, the all-pervading Vishnu and got the benediction of being his wife as well as being equal to him as seen in the Krishna tulabaaram episode.
There are three slokas in the Bhagawad Gita, which explain the situation of Vrinda. They are:
1) Karmanye vaadikaaraste...
2) Ananyas cintayam to mam...
3) Sarva dharmaan parityajya...
The first sloka says, 'Do your duty and I will give the results(which are in your interests)'
The second one says, 'Those who resort to Me will be taken care of by Me and I will carry their burden and see to their "yoga kshemam"'
The third one says 'Renounce all the rules and regulations of the temporal world which are temporary ans surrender totally unto Me, Me only, and I will destroy all your sins'. This sloka is the essence of the great 'Sharanagathi tattwa' of the Vaishnavite philosophy.

According to the first sloka, Vrinda did her duty excellently, which is 'Pativrata dharma', and Vishnu gave the fruit of her action, I.e., directing her to the correct path, which is not to support the evil doings of her husband, by creating another Maya, to counter the Maya of this samsara, in which we get attached to our relatives, and thus made her realize that her attachment to her husband was because her jivatma was trapped in this body of Vrinda, and by renouncing the body made of matter, she could realize her 'Self' and merge with 'Him', who is 'Paramatma'. Thus this supreme pativrata got the husband whom she deserved, who is 'Purushottama' Himself. That was the 'Fruit' of her action, which was devotion to Vishnu . Here the second sloka is also realized, in that He took care of her welfare by merging her with Him and also giving her special status in His puja. But when she was still in her body, the illusion due to attachment made her curse The Lord and He gracefully accepted it and turned it into a boon for humanity by taking Rama avatar. His becoming 'Salagram' was to show that He also followed the Law of Karma, which He preached, because He took the form of Jalandhar to break her power, because her power was on the side of Adharma. He turned into a stone, thus giving Himself, the 'Fruit' of His action. He also made her realize that He is the supreme being present in all beings, including Jalandhar and thus released her from the maya bondage of samsara and absorbed her into Himself, which is the greatest deliverance all beings are doing penance for. The third sloka of complete surrender theory is also fulfilled here, because He destroyed her sin of siding with Adharma by using her pativrata power to protect evil, and also removed the guilt she felt by establishing that she was not vilified and remained a great, pure pativrata because she did her duty and provided her a place of pride equal to Lakshmi as well as Himself. According to the second sloka, Vishnu becomes the servant, slave to His pure devotees and will do anything and everything possible, without bothering about the bad or good name it can bring Him, in order to deliver them from pain and suffering and give them moksha. In a way, this is also a selfless act, for the protection of the universe, by the Preserver Lord Vishnu, to take 'Apavaada', I.e., 'Disrepute', to save His devotee. This act is, just like that of Mahadev, who drank the 'Halahala' poison, to save mankind. Just like He only could survive that poison with the help of Adishakti who held it at His throat, only the preserver Lord Vishnu could act selflessly and drink the poison of 'Disrepute', even though it seemed to cause distress to His devotee Vrinda, but in reality delivering her and taking all the blames on Himself, thus destroying her sins. He derived no pleasure from this act as He is Jithendriya and beyond all mundane pleasures. He also derived pain only because the pain of His devotees causes Him also immense pain. He helped Mahadev also to give deliverance to Jalandhar by killing his mortal body and absorbing him into Himself. Thus the act of Vishnu with his Maya was necessary for the deliverance and moksha of two great souls, namely Jalandhar and Vrinda. There is much much more to write, but I will stop here, as then it will become a discourse😊

Another thing I wanted to mention...
We do not know what this pativrata dharma bhanga means in this context, as according to each yuga, the rules or yuga dharma changes. For instance, Renuka Devi, mother of Parashuram was a great pativrata, who daily went to the river bank and made fresh pots out of sand and brought water in it for the puja of her husband by her pativrata power. One day she was distracted for a few moments by some Gandharva playing with his wives in the water. Then when she tried to make the pot, she could not as she had lost her power and returned empty handed and incurred the wrath of her husband Jamadagni, who ordered his son Parashuram to behead her. Similarly, in this case also, when Vishnu took the form of Jalandhar, if, even for a second, she mistook Him for her husband and prostrated before Him with the feelings of a wife, she would have lost her power. This is where the term 'cheated' by Vishnu is applied, which may just mean that she was made to mistakenly think of Him as her husband, by His maya. Only if she had recognized Him as her Aaradyadevata Vishnu and prostrated before Him as His devotee, she would not have lost her power. This is my understanding of this episode.

Thank you dear member for this wonderful post😊

This is absolute "by creating another Maya, to counter the Maya of this samsara"...Yes it was Vishnu maya but not Vishnu (all prevading supreme being)

Though I'm satisfied with your reply I still have few doubts and I'll be happy if you clarify them.

1) Did Vrinda fulfill her duties according to her Dharma?

2) Does the life of a person in particular 'a man' solely depend on the chastity of his wife irrespective of the karma done by him?I mean what is the need of breaking Vrinda's chastity for killing evil Jalandhar?

3)Does Vrinda qualify for this status coz she was very much attached to her husband?
In Bhagavad Gita Shri Krishna said do your prescribed Karma and follow your Dharma without any attachment and without any desire for/interest in the fruits(results).

This reminds me of a discourse I've read long back.

Briefly...

Vrinda was worshipping Vishnu when Jalandhar was fighting with Shiva and when she was concentrating on god she couldn't be harmed by killing her husband,so Vishnu created an illusion of her husband in her mind.As she was very much attached to her husband she left the worship and started dreaming of her married life, her relationship with her husband. This deviation was enough to slay Jalandhar.😊

I am loving all explanationation by @hermione8 @sruja
Really finally saw sumone who actually deciphers text and not keep blaming and finding faults with supreme due ignorance

vrinda is state of a honest human being who get trapped by illusion of maya..Lord redeems us which is taken as painful due to attachment of maya and in ignorance we curse him fight him.. for giving a reality check..But after all he is supreme noes that it is he himself as a different character that curses and praises himself for betterment of humanity.
Dharma is above everthing else even relations and self interest..ur karma shapes ur journey in world of maya..takes steps that lead to liberation..supporting adharma for temporary relations and body entangles you in clucthes of maya..and its god constant persistence to free pure soul from illusion..
Thats why he have to bear bad name for his pure devotees
