I think SRJ is really suited to playing Lord Vishnu/Lord Krishna (just like Mohit is suited to playing Mahadev), and as he has already been seen playing Lord Vishnu then people can see that he would be the perfect choice for Lord Krishna in Mahabharat.
I haven't seen him in his other, non-mythological shows, but obviously people do remember his other roles and they know that he can play non-mythological, and also villainous characters.
In my opinion he isn't really getting typecast - I just think it is perfect casting for the challenging Lord Vishnu/Lord Krishna roles, and as he is so good at it then why would people want to cast anyone else in that role? Also, he is obviously happy to take up these roles - if he himself felt he was being typecast then he could easily refuse them.
I'm sure he will be offered other roles in due time and will do those well, too.
Just my POV. 😊 Nice discussion you've got going here.
