I think the holidays should be purely discretionary, and up to offices on whether to give them on any of the days. Or maybe just 1 for Ashtami, that's it. But after Mahalaya, all the pandals should be ready & open, not wait until Panchami or even Shashti. That way, the traffic pressure is less, since people now have 2 weeks to see the pandals, and that allows them to go all over the city and see more, and would result in less pressure on the cops. Oh, and for visharjans, have all the pandals that are on roads & blocking traffic - have them removed first, and the rest of them a day or 2 later, not before that.

i hate ending of festivals,its always so upsetting to bid good bye-be it Bappa or Durga Ma

BTW-just out of Interest like we say"Ganapati Bappa Morya Phudhcya Varshi Laukar Ya" do the Bengalis say something during immersion of the idol?

The equivalent of 'Phudhcya Varshi Laukar Ya' is 'Ashcheyey bachor abar hobey' meaning 'Next year, it'll happen again'

There's no equivalent of 'Ganapati gela gavala, chain padena amala'. 😆

In my 5 years here on I-F, this was the first thread celebrating Durga Puja that was public. Thanks Debo for creating it 👍🏼

Translation of the inscription above: 'It's time to return, time for the dhoop-dhunuchi, there's a tear in the corner of (Durga's) eye, as well as that of the kids. Don't cry, little ones, it's just 12 months to the next one'
