I'd imagine that for this thread, like the Navratri thread, the language rule is relaxed, and Bengali is certainly okay, since this thread is more about it. Assamese, Oriya & Hindi would be okay too.

Shobaikey Maha-Shasthi'r shubechcha janai...

I've enjoyed Durga Puja in a number of cities. As a kid, I loved the ones in Kolkata, when I'd compete w/ relatives on who could see most pandals 😆 Later, as I moved out, I saw others in other places both in India and abroad. Didn't care too much about the cultural aspects of those celebrations - but enjoyed the pandals wherever I could. But while back in Kolkata, I certainly preferred the older celebrations to the way they do them now, when the entire city is in lockdown.

I particularly enjoyed the ones I saw in Noida 2 years ago, and the one in Sunnyvale while I was in the US. Unfortunately, I've got to say that I prefer the ones outside Kolkata to the ones within the city. (Haven't seen how they are celebrated outside the city in the rest of the state)

Ok since everyone is sharing their experiences I wud like to join in too.

I am frm Nepal so Vijaya dishami/dashain/durga puja is pretty big around here and Diwali/deepawali too.
It is a 15 day featival. The first day is ghatasthapana. In this day everyone sort of inaugarates the featival by doing pooja and Jamara is planted and kept in the temples.
Then in the seventh or eigth day the bali in temples start which is a super bloody scene. Almost all the houses eat non veg and the speciality is goat.
Then on the 10th day which is the Dashami, dash=10 when Durga gained victory over Mahishashur, elders put tika on younger ones forehead and the celebration continues.
Here is the Mangal dhun of dashain which is my favourite

This is way cool - I hate having to go vegetarian on religious occasions

Some pics are very bloody so...sry. These happen in temples so I don't visit them after saptami or ashthami.
