But Shaiva's fast on Shivratri as well as on Ekadashi which was Vshinu/Vithal pooja.👏

That's not true. There may be some Vaishnavites who don't worship Lord Shiva but there are lots of Vaishnavites who do.

In the South, we consider Lord Shiva as a part the family - Lord Vishnu is Lord Shiva's brother in law by his wedding with the Goddess Meenakshi as Lord Sundareswara.

I think major loop for showing vaishnavates as -ve's
NO Shakthi till Parvati --so no Shaktism exist there
No Skandha (Not born)--- So no Kaumara's exist there
No Ganapathi(Not born)--- So no Ganapathiyam exist there
Though Shoram (SUN as Prime god )exist ,Vishnu is superior to him
so logically they are dragging Vaishnavates here it seems 😆 Poor Vishnu 🥺

@blushing that's not true I and my family my relative are vaishnavites from maharashtra but we fast the entire shravan month and specially mahashivratri.. i agree there might be few but people who are spiritual will respect not only shivaites but also all religions. and if you truly believe in god you will be human that's all i know regardless you are a shivite or vaishnavite

Wading into what seems to be an argument warming up...

I personally know Vaishnavites (from the ShreeVaishnava sect i.e., Iyengars) who will not go near Shivalingas in temples with multiple deities. The mother of a Vaishnavite friend of mine does not eat in my house because we are not Vaishnavite (although we are both the same caste).

This divide is very real, especially among orthodox Brahmins.

Considering the treatment Shiva and Shaivite theology get in Vaishnavite books, DKDM is showing Vishnu in a very fair light.

That being said, I am from a Shaivite family but our Kuldevta is Tirupati Balaji so these questions become quite confusing in many contexts.

^^^ In which case, how is a person classified in the Vaishnav or Shaivya category? Is it simply what s/he believes, or what the family belief is? B'cos my family is largely Vaishnav, but I myself am more into Shiva than I am into Vishnu, and would fall under the definition of Shaivya if it's defined by personal choice rather than family tradition. In fact, 3 of Vishnu's avatars, I have a rather dim view - Kurma, Vamana & Parashurama, and even outside that, as Krishna(kkr531) pointed out, Vishnu had a policy of favoritism towards the devas despite Indra's misdeeds, which pretty much erode my respect for him.

Most of us must have faced this situation. Our older generation follows a path very strongly, the next generation doesn't accept some of it, continues with their set of liberal rules & the the curent generation, has been exposed to various paths, seen their +ve & -ve pts have developed their own thinking based on their observation & experiences. This process is slow in villages & small towns, but in big cities the difference is obvious. So the current generation may be having their own strong reasons. Even in a family different member prays to different Gods. So the time is changing slowly.

I second this. Also being from a S Indian family and totally aware of the Iyer/Iyengar distinctions. Not to mention the further kalai distinctions within the Iyengar community.

Anyway, point is, these are very real to people.

As for the show, I don't think it's showing Vaishnavas in poor light. But I guess it depends on your perspective and how seriously you take a TV show and how easily you take offense when none maybe intended.

In my view, this is a TV show. One has to take things with a HUGE pinch of salt!

They don't hate Him as such. I asked my Iyengar friend - they simply don't consider him to be God. So no need for puja archana. Sounds very much like our friend Daksha, no?

About how you know whether you're Vaishnava/Shaiva, my dad says to check what symbols the men wear on religious occassions - my family wears the "triput" (or railway tracks as we call it) with Vibhuthi. We follow Advaitha philosophy of Adi Sankara. So we are Shaiva.

Vaishnavas from my state (Karnataka) put sandalwood markings on their face and chest. They follow the teachings of Madhvacharya. Srivaishnavas put Vishnu's "naamam". They are followers of Ramanujacharya.

That's how you usually know.
