In a fiction show we can nickname a character & nobody will mind it. But Mytho show has different feelings attached to it, since most of us have grown up hearing, reading about them.

In the beginning of the show there was a thread for giving a name to the jodi of Shiv & Sati like othe shows & many names like Shivati, Satidev, Mahati etc were suggested. Someone even said they exist in Ardhnarishwar form so a jodi name can be given. But in the end respectful original names Shiv & Sati were decided.
