I've been looking forward to reading this series. I've heard rave reviews from some friends who love the story but who have also warned me that the writing is pretty mediocre if not poor...
so we'll see...a summer beach read perhaps?

it is Inspried from the vedic puranas-but no its not the same, lots of things have been tweaked and changed to make it a fictional novel...
the Main lead Shiva-is based on the real Shiva-and same with other characters, but in this case they arent Gods but Humans
all the characters have similar character sketches to the Gods but they are not Gods but Humans instead...so showing them as widows etc isnt wrong as they are Humans and not God...
i havent read the book but ive heard rave reviews of it!!
but yeah dont take it too seriously...read the Devi Puran or the Shiva Puran if you want to get knowledge!

Parvati,Shakti and Prakriti obviously i cannot expect her to be wife of any other besides Shiva.
For me they are Mata Pita ( Shiv and Shakti) so i can never tolerate ( even in fiction ) such depiction.

Meluha characters are not actual Sati and Mahadev... They r are not GODs They are humans who has been named Sati and Shiv...There are 100s of people named Sati And Shiv in this world...Many people and characters are named after Gods.It dosent make them actual GODs.
Supposing in a movie a villein is named Shiva will stop watching tht movie since the villein is named Shiva ??
What if in a story the lead heroine is named Sati u wont read tht story coz the heroine is named Sati ??
Shakti and Shiva are not confined by their names...There's big diff between Fact and fiction.

Immortals of Meluha is a fiction...The writer has taken characters from Indian Mythology and created a story...Its no way related to the religious stories we have in Purans and upnishands...like foreign writers create stories with characters from Greek and roman mythology...

So dont be confused by it...
In Immortal series they dont have Parvati and Sati as separate characters...They r both names of same person...in the 1st book Daksh has mentioned Sati is also known as Parvati.
Its a brilliant book...enjoy it as a fiction not as a religious story.

Agree... Luv the Immortals of Meluha & The secret of the Nagas by AmishJi.
They are both based on fiction of the writers mind and yes He has blended some part of the Mythology in. One should not compare it to the religious story.
Devon Ke Dev Mahadev... is an awesome effort by the CV's to bring the story of Mahadev on screen and I totally luv it. Even here CV's tend to add some bits in for TRP... As a child I loved reading all the Amar Chitra Katha books (still do) and they beautifully brought into light the beliefs of the Hindu and many other dharams. DKDM is the visual form of the same.😊

Meluha is an interpretation of mythology with fictional twists.
There is a book by English anthropologist James W Frazer called The Golden Bough where he theorizes how all the Greek, Roman, Egyptian, Syrian, Coptic etc. gods were originally humans and how legends turn them into gods.
Mahapandit Rahul Sankrityayan, the Indian scholar also theorized that Indra was originally a leader of men. I'm guessing Tripathy follows a similar school though he is much more religious than Frazer or RS. His starting point was this (I'm quoting this from wikipedia but I've read this in one of his interviews before, so it's authentic)
"One day, while watching a historical program, Tripathi and his family got into the discussion about consciousness and the evil inside man. In the program they learned that in ancient Persia, angels were known as Asuras (a term reserved for demons in Indian mythology), and demons were called Daivas (a term reserved for the Gods in Indian mythology). Tripathi added, "It set me thinking that this was exact opposite of our Vedic etymology where evil was Asura and gods were Devas. It struck me that if the two civilizations were to confront each other, they would be at stark odds and calling each other evil." "
So read Meluha as a story inspired by mythology, but if you want the mythological history, read the puranas.

Sati is a widow in Meluha...her husband was killed by daksh same day she had her child...her child was deformed(Naga) hence he was given away and she was told tht her baby died..
She is considered cursed because in Meluha if a baby died during childbirth his mother was considered "Vikarma" untouchable...thts why she was unfit for remarriage.
Widows were not considered vikarma...they could get remarried again.
