Veer said he had some 'important' work and left her alone in the house. He had said he would return in the afternoon. Manyata looked around and noticed the yellowy blotch on her once perfect white dress. She had been wearing it since almost 3 days and she urgently felt the need for a bath. But what would she wear!
She went to the rickety old cupboard to check if there's anything decent she could wear. There were Veer's clothes of course and some old cotton sarees too. Probably they belonged to Veer's mother. She chose a red colored one with the matching blouse. How ironic it was! Just a week back the same Manyata wouldn't look such things in the mouth. Maybe the circumstances had changed her. And partly Veer was responsible too. The spoilt brat had disappeared somewhere and the new docile and calm girl had taken her place in a matter of three days. Strange are the ways of human behavior.
When Veer returned in the afternoon he had two covers in hand. One with the logo of McDonalds on it and the other one with something else. He was surprised seeing how the house looked. It was spick and span to say the least. Did Manyata clean the house? He went to the kitchen and found a saree clad figure working at something.
"Manyata??" he said with suspicion and bit his tongue. It was the first time he was calling her by her name. And Manyata felt almost the same feelings. It was weird how he had totally avoided calling her by her name till now; and when he did, it was so thrilling! Gosh what was wrong with her for crying out loud!
She turned and Veer was left speechless by what he saw. Manyata was clad in his mother's deep red saree and her pretty waist was tantalizing him from the sensuous way she had draped it. It contradicted her fair complexion nicely. While Veer imagined what would happen if he were to encircle her waist and envelope her in his arms and...
Manyata noticed the McDonalds paper bag in his hand and felt the excitement of a child one moment and her throat tightening with some strange emotion next. She had all but once mentioned that she wanted Burgers and he had gone out of his way to bring them for her!
Veer gripped the pendant tightly in his pocket in order to bring some sort of control over his wandering mind.
"Kya baat hai aaj ghar aise chamak raha hai? Yeh sab tune kiya hai? Aur tujhe maine kitchen me aane se mana kiya tha na phir kyon aayi tu(What's the matter, you cleaned the house! didn't I tell you to not to enter the kitchen)?" He asked her.
"Maine socha ki agar is ghar me rehna hi hai toh tumhari thodi si madat kardoon'yeh dekho maine kitchen bhi saaf kar diya aur jaise taise baaki jagah bhi saaf kiya'aur mere kapde gande ho gaye the toh yeh saadi pehenli(I thought while I live in this house, let me help you a little bit, see I cleaned the kitchen and other places; and my dress was dirty so I wore this Saree)" Manyata was afraid of offending him.
"Tere haath me toh chot lagi thi na? phir kaise kiya yeh sab(I thought you hurt your hand, how could you do this)?" Veer was surprised.
"Yeh chot toh kuch bhi nahi hai Veer'meri zindagi ko jo chot lagi hai uske saamne(This is nothing in front of the wound that my life has been inflicted with) " Manyata was sad again.
"tu kya buddhon jaisi baatein karne lagi? Chal woh tera barbar khaate hain(why are you speaking like an old woman..come let's eat Barbar)" Veer said.
He wanted to distract Manyata and it was easily done, "Barbar nahi Veer, Burger; 'Ba-r-gar' she corrected him.
"Haan wahi wahi, me iske saath angrezi ki kitaab bhi laya hoon'khana khane ke baad tu mujhe padhana(yes, that's what, after lunch you can teach me English, I brought the English book)" Veer showed her the alphabet book.
They ate the food in silence and after a minute Manyata asked with apprehension. "Veer, tum yaha akele kyon rehte ho? Tumhare saath koi nahi rehta?"
Veer stared at her for a second and then said in a low voice " Apun ki maa ek saal pehle mar gayi aur bapu che(6) maheene pehle, tabse main akela rehta hai idhar(my mother died an year ago and father 6 months before)"
"Tumhare koi bhai behen nahi hai?" Manyata's was strangely curious about Veer's life.
"Nahi, apun bachpan se akela hai(no, I've been alone since childhood)" Veer said in a defensive manner and Manyata understood she wasn't welcome to ask more.
"Tu apne baare me kuch bata? Teri kahani suna apun ko(tell me about yourself)" Veer asked her.
"Meri kahani kuch nahi hai Veer, ek bohot bade ghar ki beti hoon main, bachpan se palkon par bithakar pala gaya mujhe'phir jaise maine tumhe pehle bhi bataya tha, unhone mujh par us bachpan wali shaadi ka dabav daalna shuru kiya aur main pagal si ho gayi, galat aadmi ki sangat me pad gayi aur maine bohot dukh pohonchaya hai mere apnon ko, kya woh log mujhe kabhi maaf karenge?(There's nothing great about my story, I'm the daughter of a rich house and as I've told you before they brought me up with much care and affection'then suddenly the matter of child marriage came up and I went mad, I fell into friendship with a wrong person and hurt my own people, would they ever forgive me?)" Manyata was in tears.
Obviously Veer couldn't bear to see her tears and He went forward and hugged her to pacify her. Manyata leaned her head on Veer's chest and that did it. Nobody knew who made the first move but skin touched skin and there were electric sparks everywhere. Everything else in the room seized to exist and only their eyes spoke. Veer's hand travelled to Manyata's slender waist and their mouths almost came within the touching distance. "Bohot khubsurat lag rahi ho Princess" Veer whispered in her ears. His deep voice sent shock waves in her body. If she didn't stop herself within a minute this could turn dangerous and...
"MANYATA!! YEH KYA HO RAHA HAI!!" a booming voice broke the silence jerking them out of their intimate position.
Daadi saab stood there with Akash standing behind her with an 'I'm-too-innocent, I-didn't-do-anything' expression on his face.
"Yeh kya kar rahi thi aap? Ek paraye mard ko is tarah'! Chee!! Aap abhi chaliye humare saath..(what the hell do you think you are doing with an unknown man, come with me at once!)" Daadisaab growled at Manyata.
Manyata thought fast. How did DS know that she was here? And what was Akash doing here? She put two and two together and guessed that Akash must have tipped her off. And from the way DS was shooting murderous looks towards Veer, Manyata guessed Veer would be in deep trouble if she didn't act fast.
She counted to ten in her mind; squeezed her eyes shut and said "Daadi saab main Veer se pyar karti hoon, ab main isi ke saath rahoongi(DS im in love with Veer and I want to live with him)"
Veer couldn't believe what he was hearing. He was flummoxed.

Ok so this chapter took a lot of time to write and it didn't come out as i had expected
if you found it worth reading, please hit 'Like' and comment...😳
Thank you all who commented and liked the previous chapter 🤗
(P.S: Some of you had asked me in previous updates if Manyata had ever loved Akash, the answer is no...she never had 😳
it was her admiration for him or we might say just infatuation with him coupled with her teenager hormones that drove her towards what she did, but she'll lose all her naivete and become a mature adult in Veer's company😃)
