Its 4 in the morning as I'm typing this! Am I sleepy? Hell Yes! But had to keep my promise.. Anyway, all I can say bout this chapter is, Please dont charge with chappals at me, I've tried to include a small portion of action. Its the first time I'm writing anything like this and spent hours deciding whether to include it. But if I dont take chances, I'll never know if I qualify to make future try on it or I should maintain a mile's distance from action. Please let me know your honest opinion. Here goes the next part:
CONFESSING TO THE NIGHT
(Part Five)
A war ensued between her mind and heart, with her heart urging her to believe the sight before her while her mind reminded her of the countless times she had been brutally tricked by her hallucinations. She closed her eyes, exhaling as a lone tear slipped down her wet cheek. She was exhausted of surviving the circumstances her life threw at her, each ripping away her heart further. For once, she shut her mind and heart choosing to follow the impulses her nerves imparted. And her legs chose to retrace her steps back, once again stepping onto the lap of darkness. Without a second thought, she forced herself to turn and run. In whch direction, she did not bother. She just wanted to escape somewhere, anywhere where there would be no more hallucinations to crush the remnant pieces of her broken heart. In her quest, she did not even notice the carelessly hung signboard declaring that the alley she had ventured into, was in possession of a gang.
Her legs felt heavy after an eternal stretch of time seemed to have elasped. Her body had begun to pay with her limbs going numb and her breathing coming in short rasps. But that was what she wanted. An escape, a distraction from the stubbor incessant pain in her heart. No sooner had she tried to seek momentary solace from her mental pain in the self-inflicted physical pain, her eyes spotted two point-sized brightness standing out amidst the boundless darkness enveloping her. Within the blink of an eye, the two fast approaching point-seeming light rays assumed a colossal shape, blinding her vision. Squeezing her eyes shut, she came to a halt and tried to shield her eyes from the beam of photons that seemed to penetrate nonetheless.
It was when her eyes momentarily fluttered open that she realised the source of the blinding light. Her hands fell to her sides as time seemed to have frozen before her. Fight or flight hormones began throbbing in every vein of her being as a car sped towards her, blaring its deafening horn. Barely half-a-metre away from a speeding car, she stood as panic got the best of her. She ordered her legs to move but they wouldnt budge. Her screams died at the tip of her tongue as her lips refused to make a way out for them. Her heart was palpitating so hard, she felt it could fail any moment. Tears pricked her eyes as her attempts to pull her legs failed incessantly and the car was at nothing more than a foot's distance from her. Just as she was about to squint her eyes shut bracing herself for the inevitable, a strong grip yanked her sideways by her arm making her bump into a muscular form instead of the car. A rush of air swept by as the car sped away, the roar of its engine fading out gradually.
"What the hell were you thinkhng Manyata?" the intruder yelled shaking her by her shoulders.
Her eyes shot up to see his face as his voice registered into her mind. Not yet recovered from the previous shock, she recieved yet another as she stared at the pair of bottomless dark eyes boring onto her.
'Its him! Its true!' her heart screamed. Her hands itched to touch his face, to feel its warmth. It took all that she had to hold them back. She could not risk it. She could not believe yet another fantasy and live through its consequences. She clenched her palms, her nails digging onto her skin, tn hold back her overpowering urge and the tears that had started to blur her vision. But her will power was easily defeated as desperation took over.
"Udayveer-" she whispered questioningly as she looked on with expectant eyes into his fierce ones. The suppressed tears leaked out as she begged him to respond, to do anything to prove he was not a figment of her imagination this time.
His heart felt being pierced as he took in the tears streaming down her delicate cheeks which now looked red and sore, her dream-like beautiful face contorting with pain as she struggled to keep herself from breaking down. It sucked his very life out of him to pull an uncaring facade everytime he spotted her. Over the months, it had reduced him into a cold stone, a framework of organs without a soul. He did not know what love was anymore. For him, existence was just about running his kingdom, looking after his choti and distancing himself from Manyata. And he had every intention to keep going that way but she had always managed to make him weak to his bones.
