Prince Charles has spoken of the urgent need for business leaders and
politicians to tackle the problem of deforestation.
In an interview with the BBC, he said the world could not wait for new
technologies to provide the answer to climate change - and that halting
the destruction of forests was the single most effective method of cutting
so-called greenhouse gases.
As Brazil becomes a major agricultural power, the demand for beef and
soybeans from growing economies in Asia has put increased pressure on
the rainforest.
This has meant that, despite the Brazilian government's efforts to control
illegal logging, the rate of deforestation in the Amazon jungle has soared.
Are you in the region? How important is the Amazon for you? Can this
region be economically developed without being destroyed? How can
families there make a living in a sustainable way?
