^^^i have seen lot of "street smart" poor people. if they can't make an effort to uplift their socio-economic status despite all the street smartness they got then they wouldn't do it even if they had an average iq.

i never said that all people r born with equal iq. all i said that all poor people r not born with low iq. if they make the efforts to improve the quality of their lives, even small measures that do not really require h sky hi iq will be helpful initially. eventually, they can venture out some more but they need to make a beginning atleast. no one's preaching them to pass the IAS or IPS exam at a go.

why most of them do not go for whatever avenues r available to them to enhance their knowledge and improve their socio-economic status is because of the attitude they carry.

btw, how much iq is needed to limit the size of ur family, to let go of ur vices, to send ur children to sarkari school etc.? not much i guess. it's a no brainer for anyone if they have the zeal to move up. all it takes is some baby steps in the right direction and eventually, they will see some improvement in their economic condition.

So there's street smart, IQ smart, hardworking, opportunity, and luck..

I think it takes a combination of at least two to get rich...

What do you guys think of:

(a) Spoiled brats of rich parents
(b) Game show winners
(c) lottery winners

(d) gold-diggers (either gender)

Just curious 😳

on the contrary, i think people are born with different IQ levels- it's a combination of nature/ genes and nurture. and sadly i think the poor do have lower IQs/ brains. am not talking narrowly here about what they would score on a standardized test, but on a broader definition of "brains".

apart from genes, the lower IQ might be attributable to their circumstances- poor health and nutrition, limited opportunities for advancement, to gain exposure, limited education and confidence levels etc. These all play a symbiotic role in how the brain/ mind and in fact the entire personality develops, and in whether someone would have the zeal or the talent to rise above their station in life.

as for typecasting, that's what the debate is about. not that we are necessarily doing it for any noble reasons, but typecasting is implicitly what researchers do to develop solutions.

First of all, we might have to define I/Q then, am strictly off of measure of intellegence. More of efficiency/capability of brain.😊

Nuture, that you mentioned, is an interesting point...nuture might help feeding the right information/instruction to the brain, but w/o level of I/Q within individual will be of no use.

^^ i think iq does correlate with success. it puts someone at a certain level, though it might not be enuff by itself to predict how well they might actually perform at that level. attitude, emotional intelligence also count.

also, high iq people are not necessarily motivated or find it mentally stimulating to go after the things that make them successful, making it a weaker correlation. but if they are motivated, they tend to reach the higher states of accomplishment more easily. iq gives someone that ability.

that said, the poor do have a disadvantage when it comes to iq- as a result of both genetic and environmental factors. they have to work that much harder to rise above it all i think.

(a) Spoiled brats of rich parents - Stop allowances and throw then out of the house then we might get to see capabilities of Mr. Brat.
(b) Game show winners - Lucky (to get the answers right😆)
(c) lottery winners -
Bery Bery Lucky to have bought that ticket and kept it safe
(d) gold-diggers (either gender) - How do u know they are unless they actually get gold? 😆 would say hardwork paid off..with tons of luck

Just curious 😳

generally speaking, iq correlates with academic success more and one does not need to be an academician to be successful in life. agreed, the poor need to work much harder to rise above all the constraints they r working with but it's doable if they really want to do it.

i also don't believe that people stay poor because they r inherently more "moral" or "god-fearing" than those who r doing better economically.

spastic society in bandra mumbai had an inmate whose IQ was 192 which is like better than einsteins i think and 92 % of his brain was filled with fluids and useless.. so anybody who has a lower IQ + academic success need to compete with this guy or should look into the camera and say.. although I have great education I am not smarter than a spastic...😆😆😆

...and the point u r trying to make here is?????😕

i think pretty much all agree so far that iq does contribute to ones success but can't ensure it alone if motivation/zeal is lacking. as it is, i am not talking about the poor becoming doctors or engineers overnite....and now that we r at it...i also don't believe that businessmen have low iqs😉

all i'm saying is that the poor can atleast start with some life-style altering choices first....that is, if they really want to move up the socio-economic ladder.
