okie, back to topic. baat ab corporate jobs tak aa pahunchee hai - the role an ex-employer's reference plays in one's potential hiring at a new corporation. well, I recall from my Business Law classes here that there is a clause in the Labor Law that actually prevents an ex-employer to give a negative reference to an employee seeking employment elsewhere.
I know for sure that it is not allowed for bosses to give one a negative letter of recommendation in the U.S., U.K., Germany, and Canada. The worst the boss could do is write a mediocre recommendation that says things like " He tried to complete his assignments in the fullest." or "the employee maintained good relationships with his colleagues" pretty funny stuff actually😆. It could be implied but not openly negative....so, no point in getting all het about that jealous callous slave driver boss's power to kill your future 😉
Some areas are so closely knit that one gets their reputation by word of mouth and people know them/about them even before they apply to a different place. In these cases, I would expect that one gets a reputation based on what everyone else has to say about them....not just one person's rantings about them. If you feel you work in one such close knit community type of environment, just make sure you include two three people from your previous workplace who can provide an unbiased and true reflection of you as a an employee..in case you do not trust your boss or have a really bad rapport with your boss. As it is, your boss can not give anything crappy in writing per the labor laws. whatever implied badmouthing he/she gives you can be neutralized with something good your colleagues might have to say about you...that is...if you are actually good to begin with 😆
Of course, what others say about you behind your back in personal/virtual life is not subject to any such laws and therefore each should assess the other person on their own. suno sab ki, karo apni😊
