This is how I analyzed it. May be the lyrics aren't that intense and Gulzar literally meant what he wrote.

This is the turbulent phase of their relationship

And memoir contains the details of that night or phase

She wants to erase the memory associated with that phase

Raat could either be "that night" or the entire phase of their relationship.

The lyrics of Mera Kuch Saamaan and one of its meanings.

Its a song from a woman to her lover, pleading with him to let her loose, to release all the memories of their affair, of their love, of their passion, to return all those memories which belong to her, which are all lying entwined with him and his life.... without which she wont be able to cut loose... and when she buries those feelings, she wishes she can bury herself too in them... for the memories is what her life is all about, those memories are a reason for her existence today.

Its not really post mortem... its more of an analysis of his lyrics or poetry.

As a student of poetry, you learn to absorb every facet of the poetry as the poet describes and then find the hidden meaning, if any, in them... you also learn to learn from the words.
