IMHO, she is not comparing the news...She is just asking how come the country's most important news was covered by a foriegn channel, while our Indian channels were busy with covering minute to minute details of SD,AB^2 etc...Isn't it disgusting???Or we don't consider a Major's life more precious and important than a film actor, who is only working for himself, being put in jail for whatever the heck is the reason...😔

This happens everywhere(not that it is ok)

In the war in Iraq, all we get to read is how many people died today, if there were any atrocities commited by the soldiers and all, and perhaps a #, of soldiers that died, doesnt state, hey the soldiers were guarding a place where a school was being rebuilt

And this news gets almost a page 15 entry, if it every does, meanwhile what Gwen Steffani did in Malaysia makes the headlines

It is the human nature, although we like to see good in life, all we want to read is the flimsy stuff, the juicy stuff, the controversial stuff

Ok, those who are saying that 'its not his fault that the media is covering him'..Let me enlighten you guys with one good thing about today's commercial media...In today's world nothing comes for free..Not even publicity...And hence some of these famouse people, to become more famous, they pay some fee to the media...In case of SD also, who knows, he or his family could be taking media's assistance in garnering the public support...

There are so many tricks of the trade that these people have learnt very well...

Tell me who wont like to know about the news about the Martyrdom of our Major,in this case..Each one of us get emotional abt such things and would want to do more...Don't ever say that the media is showing the news that the public wanted to watch..It could be true some decades back...But today, its not a complete truth...If the media became a little bit unselfish and try to create some awareness in the public about the news such as these, our country would have been 100times much better off...

Raksha, Have you ever heard of an arms forces network? that is a television channel owned by the army, gets absolutely 0 rating within the common people

It has so little market, that even the cable companies rarely carry it

We like to hear spicy stuff, who wants to hear gory details of the war?

Yes, I heard about that.
-never got to watch it though..Sareg, do you trust these ratings and stuff???In any case,I am not talking about the gory details...But these people are so talented that they can actually package the news from the army in such a way that, they can promote some awareness amongst people...Do you know that an average soldier gets paid so less and its even worse after his martyrdom, his family is literally on roads...If media becomes more responsible and atleast dedicates 5 mnts of its time for news such as these, the public awareness will increase and we can do something for such families...

Don't we need Praja Stars like Sanjay Dutt ...or Amitabh.. to promote such stuff😛,yes ..it definetly makes an impact in the common people if local dieties like Chiranjeevi, Rajanikanth..Mammooty....Mohan lal...dedicate some time to Patriotism also..btw don't you watch Jai Jawan program in NDTV in which..Priyanka.....Rani....all went and met the soldiers in their areas😛!!

The first thing necessary is the hype in the news need to be decreased..I think NDTV and CNN IBN in India are doing a good job..regarding the balance in news and news elements..

Yes as Raksha ji! Said much more emphasis on the news related to these veer jawan /greatness of Indian Navy,Miltary..airforce need to be shown....

Is it fair to blame media and on our part we don't like joining in army,we don't like our family members joining in army....we want to be in a safe zone and say ...if this were like this and if that were like that....yes wedo admire the things which we are not capable of ...😊
