rest, if we dont agree then whom are we kidding

Yet when it came to Kargil we had to rely on these glamor-less jawans to defend us...oddly enough cannot seem to recollect even one actor who was fighting at the border

First of all I wanna thank you for sharing this article with us. Our Heartfelt condolences for Late Major Manish Pitambare's family. May his soul rest in peace.

What I would like you to think about is this:-

1. Do we give due respect to the brave souls who have given up their lives so that we can sleep peacefully?
Yes, we do. I mean we - the ordinary Indian citizens.

2. Are the priorities of our media so screwed up?
Yes, they are. I guess celebrities pay some of the channels to give them coverage.

However there are some news channels like Times Now, CNN IBN, NDTV which have kinda maintained the dignity that is attached to these channels.

Esp. TimesNow which covered our soldiers fighting in the valley. Tis through this channel that I learnt about another brave Indian army man Col. Vasanth Venugopal who was killed in an encounter with infiltrators in Jammu and Kashmir last month.

3. Or are the media just catering to public demand?
Yes they are - most of the media does it. I find IndiaTV pretty wierd.

4. Are we, the public that superficial that we care only about what happens to glamorous celebs
A section of public may be too naive to not to run after the celebs but not everyone.

5. Do we want only "dumbed down" news and information?
No.

Thanks. TC.

Sadly enough, this is media for you not only in India but the whole world. They will catch every silly glimpse of a celebrity and gossip but have no time to pay respects for those who gave their lifes for others. But it just makes you wonder about us, the public. What has become of the world? And sad part is it's only getting worst from here on.
