This was mailed to me ...it touched me deeply so I am sharing it with all....

By the time u guys read this news, the body of Major Manish Pitambare, who was shot dead at Anantnag, would have been cremated with full military honors.

On Tuesday, this news swept across all the news channels 'Sanjay Dutt relieved by court'. 'Sirf Munna not a bhai' '13 saal ka vanvaas khatam' 'although found guilty for possession of armory, Sanjay can breath sigh of relief as all the TADA charges against him are withdrawn' Then many personalities like Salman Khan said 'He is a good person. We knew he will come out clean'. Mr Big B said "Dutt's family and our family have relations for years he's a good kid. He is like elder brother to Abhishek". His sister Priya Dutt said "we can sleep well tonight. It's a great relief"

In other news, Parliament was mad at Indian team for performing bad; Greg Chappell said something; Shah Rukh Khan replaces Amitabh in KBC and other such stuff. But most of the emphasis was given on Sanjay Dutt's "phoenix like" comeback from the ashes of terrorist charges. Surfing through the channels, one news on BBC startled me. It read "Hisbul Mujahidin's most wanted terrorist 'Sohel Faisal' killed in Anantnag , India . Indian Major leading the operation lost his life in the process. Four others are injured.

It was past midnight , I started visiting the stupid Indian channels, but Sanjay Dutt was still ruling. They were telling how Sanjay pleaded to the court saying 'I'm the sole bread earner for my family', 'I have a daughter who is studying in US' and so on. Then they showed how Sanjay was not wearing his lucky blue shirt while he was hearing the verdict and also how he went to every temple and prayed for the last few months. A suspect in Mumbai bomb blasts, convicted under armory act...was being transformed into a hero.

Sure Sanjay Dutt has a daughter; Sure he did not do any terrorist activity. Possessing an AK47 is considered too elementary in terrorist community and also one who possesses an AK47 has a right to possess a pistol so that again is not such a big crime; Sure Sanjay Dutt went to all the temples;
Sure he did a lot of Gandhigiri but then........ ..

Major Manish H Pitambare got the information from his sources about the terrorists' whereabouts. Wasting no time he attacked the camp, killed Hisbul Mujahidin's supremo and in the process lost his life to the bullets fired from an AK47. He is survived by a wife and daughter (just like Sanjay Dutt) who's only 18 months old.

Major Manish never said 'I have a daughter' before he took the decision to attack the terrorists in the darkest of nights. He never thought about having a family and he being the bread earner. No news channel covered this since they were too busy hyping a former drug addict, a suspect who's linked to bomb blasts which killed hundreds. Their aim was to show how he defied the TADA charges and they were so successful that his conviction in possession of armory had no meaning. They also concluded that his parents in heaven must be happy and proud of him.

Parents of Major Manish are still living and they have to live rest of their lives without their beloved son. His daughter won't ever see her daddy again.

The most shameful thing was that this Army Major's death news was given by a foreign TV channel!!!

What I would like you to think about is this:-

1. Do we give due respect to the brave souls who have given up their lives so that we can sleep peacefully?

2. Are the priorities of our media so screwed up?

3. Or are the media just catering to public demand?

4. Are we, the public that superficial that we care only about what happens to glamorous celebs

5. Do we want only "dumbed down" news and information?

Syrene, TFS the wonderful article...Unfortunately that's the horrid reality of our country's fourth estate...

However, it would be helpful to the debaters if you could come up with some guidelines for this thread, such as some pointers from the article, on which we can all present our views and discuss and debate here...

Thanks for sharing the article.
All our respects go for Major Manish Pitambare.

As for SD news, media and people........and Major's news, I dont see the reason why it has to be compared..

they are completely different issues.

Its not fair enough to see a Majors sacrifice for his country and a star on trial with the same angle.

First of all, thankyou for an emotional post😊

What I would like you to think about is this:-

1. Do we give due respect to the brave souls who have given up their lives so that we can sleep peacefully?

Yes! Indeed its really sad that we cannot do anything except for praying for them! Personally we cannot do anything! IMHO ! Each person is unique and each one has an ambition,we need to strive for it and we should take inspiration from great souls /brave souls and try to impart some of their principles in our struggle for implemtation of our ideals and goals!

2. Are the priorities of our media so screwed up?

Yes😊

3. Or are the media just catering to public demand?

Media is not a social service..its a business but they need to remember that media is a business with lot of social responsiblity😊

4. Are we, the public that superficial that we care only about what happens to glamorous celebs

Fortunately I'm not one among the folks you desrcibed😊

5. Do we want only "dumbed down" news and information?

I don't watch such dumb stuff when I want to watch real news. see the quality of BBC,CNN, NDTV, CNN IBN.. its really good 😊.when I want to watch film news I deliberately watch Zoom TV for that😆

1. Do we give due respect to the brave souls who have given up their lives so that we can sleep peacefully?

I Do completely. All my respects go for those brave heart MEN . It is true that the real heroes of our country, are not in the limelight...., they dont have fan followings like glamour dolls and hearthrobs, but I am sure. people in our country, have all respects and concerns for them. Its just that there are fewer mediums of reaching the real heroes.

2. Are the priorities of our media so screwed up?

😕 half the reporters and cameramen running behind Ash Abhi wedding, the other half behind whos in whos out of the wedding, no time and resources left in sorting out priorities 😆😆

yes .definately

3. Or are the media just catering to public demand?

Exactly.. Do you think we would have watched Jay Jawan, if there wouldnt be guests like hrithik kareena Aishwariya ???? singing dancing on the show ????

4. Are we, the public that superficial that we care only about what happens to glamorous celebs

I guess most of us are.... We are so much into the fake fashion world, that non glamourous non fashion news is no news for us...

most people i know switch on to starnews only for saas bahu and saazish ....

5. Do we want only "dumbed down" news and information?

Its maybe the relaxing time that we want... we get relaxed seeing info on what we like or whom we like. we get disturbed easily with all other news. so i guess we choose for "dumbed down news"

IMHO, she is not comparing the news...She is just asking how come the country's most important news was covered by a foriegn channel, while our Indian channels were busy with covering minute to minute details of SD,AB^2 etc...Isn't it disgusting???Or we don't consider a Major's life more precious and important than a film actor, who is only working for himself, being put in jail for whatever the heck is the reason...😔

1. Do we give due respect to the brave souls who have given up their lives so that we can sleep peacefully?

No. Since we hardly find out about these martyrs, how are we to give them respect? It's this once in a while thing we receive a forward e-mail, and we get emotional for a minute and then everyone goes back on Indiafm again. Sad, but that is exactly how is works for an average wo/man.

2. Are the priorities of our media so screwed up?

Hell yeah!!! And the people alike. Media is here to make money and it is like demand and supply. People want to see AbhiAsh and Sanjay Dutt much more than these brave soldiers, why blame the media?

3. Or are the media just catering to public demand?

I would say so.

4. Are we, the public that superficial that we care only about what happens to glamorous celebs

Public in general definitely is very superficial and they can talk as much as they want, but at the end of the day, all that matters is who won II or SRGMP and who married who.

5. Do we want only "dumbed down" news and information?

I would say yes to that question for an average Indian.
