If there are some indians who feel they are not being biased against... I think they should take a trip to New Jersey or some such place... all that cocooned misconception will wear out... 😊

I concur with your observation there. Indians are accepted and respected professionaly but we lack in social skills when co mingling with non Indians and have different priorities/sensibilites outside of work compared to westerners which sort of defines our attitude and hot/cool factor in general. Again when Indians are looked down upon it is not usualy because of their professional skills but personal attiude in general which makes us look dull/geeky/boring. Let's not forget how everyone loved Sanjaya in american idol recently. 😉

Its high time, if this was said 3 years ago would have not agreed less, but time has changed even Indians/Asian are competitive with leadership skills that was thing of west.

Yeah hardwok of Indians can be justified with the financial/living standards etc but with

Rupee being strong. Ample of oppurtunities back home with good wages. Infact Americans opting fo Indian schools and companies.
  1. India making great progress in all sectors .

And pray tell me WHO is refuting the success India has achieved in the last decade???...Wasn't there some economist/statistician who claimed in by 2050,China would be numero uno, followed by India..As a matter of fact, the American economy has been plummeting what with 9-11 and the Afghan and Iraq wars which followed .....The Indian economy is flourishing, anyone who doesn't acknowledge this is plainly ignorant, and we needn't care two hoots about such unintellectual ,inattentive and misinformed people.

Unable to understand the point.

Basically US claims to be EOE, no racism etc etc, but its prety evident in some sectors of work culture.

If the discrimintion is imbued with racist undercurrents, then,as stated before,it isn't exclusive to the United States alone....It's more pathetic in the UK.I've allready thrown enough light on the subject of racism,I do not wish to repeat myself😊

American are great in leadership, is thing of past , Asian apart from skills you mentioned are geat learners, agreed with paralysed communication skills / vocab, still they can do wonders. obviously not accepted, not only whites anyone from any county won't like it, but high high time world economy leaders acknowledge and respect the value asians in particular Indians are bringing to them. This is not only true for adult but kids also, any school that has 60% Indians, is of high ranking. So respect and accept the facts... might be tue for some sections... but its the truth... will add more after a break... tc

Yes,Asians do wonders, which explains why they are accepted in the US and aren't sent back to their native country...

Why do we crave for special attention and acknowledgement, why this yearning to score some brownie points??Does't the very fact that more than 2 million Indians have settled in the USA and are very well-heeled,very prosperous, highly educated and successful substantiate that the US has not rejected the Indians???....Indians are employed because their expertise is acknowledged and recognised, what other kind of recognition do we need???....US isn't a refugee camp that shelters foreign folk, she wouldn't want a featherbrained goofball or a blockheaded stumblebum....Indians are doing blooming well, and if any Caucasian chooses not to give credence to the fact, then he is delusional, living in denial ...Such people should be pitied for their ignorance, pitied because he is so obstinately unwilling to come to terms with the fact that others are more successful....Reiterating, racists are losers, who just need some reason to claim their own superiority, and when they cannot prove themselves superior in fields of academics or profession, they choose something as inconsequential and unimportant as skin tone to belittle the other person....Racists are ignorant, cretinous, stuck up idiots, and by getting worked up by such slurs, one is only establishing the fact that one is so vulnerable,so uncertain of one's own abilities,so insecure that such senseless rubbish causes one disquiet and unease....Not every American is a racist, therefore let us not generalise.

More importantly,I find that loads and loads of desis are extraordinarily PRUDISH and PRIGGISH...So many desis act like the stereotypical Mrs.Grundy, sitting judgmental on other people's choices and tastes and evaluating people using their personal ethics and morals as the yardstick

Then some desis are too anti-social to the point of coming across as obnoxious, some are plainly awkward, some feel intimidated...Clash of two cultures which are as different as chalk is from cheese...Never the twain shall meet(unless one chooses to completely adopt the American culture and way of living),but one could always make the experience much less unpleasant by adjusting😊

Discrimination is rampant within our country. Why are we crying booboo in a foreign land? That one was welcome in spite of a mediocre / average education / skill set itself is a big deal me thinks.

Raj, the leadership skills on a rise in past 3 years that you mentioned is a great point. How many of those leaders feel discriminated against? Why are they still here in that case? 😛

Now some people mentioned desis in certain areas feeling discriminated against and the rest being in a cuccoon. Dodge this. I have visited some of those desi-flustered areas too and I am not too fond of those areas / those communities either. Devon street in Chicago is one such place I'd never want to go to ever again.
I choose to hang out with only those Indians who make me feel prod of our community and values. Truck load of others who came here anyway sometimes don't fit the requirements, and hence why just americans? Several indians in America discriminate against those odd balls too! (Odd ball characteristics include- children with no discipline, smelly clothes smelling of Indian food, coming too near to talk, oggling, lack of punctuality / time managemnt, careless invasion of personal space, speaking their own language in a group that includes people who don't understand it, and last but not the least, bad-mouthing whites and blacks) IMHO, not liking these people is not racism. It is expecting a certain polished behaviour as opposed to uncouth.

In the cuccoon or whatever it is that I must dwell in, it feels great to be never discriminated against for color 😊. On the contrary, as a BRAHMIN I feel I suffer more discrimination in India thanks to RESERVATIONS and ignorant mindset of majority that continue to accuse Brahmins even today 😛.
There are pockets of racist comminties and incidences which I don't deny, but most of the accusations I find baseless in communities flustered with immigrants 😊. It is the immigrants that should look around and figure.

(Odd ball characteristics include- children with no discipline sure they should be strapped in car seat, stroller, with duct tape on their mouth so when they are in college they can blow up something/someone crying freedom...😆, smelly clothes smelling of Indian food i think you need to differentiate smell and flavor... i just accidentally once heated mushroom masala in the office breakroom and i had 3-4 americans and the receptionist walk upto me asking whats that delicious stuff I have..its only indians who act funny, also once I smelt pungent pork and I had to take a break to throw up somewhere..., coming too near to talk whats wrong.. here i mean not everybody anyways does tht, oggling thats just trying to get a precise picture...😊 , lack of punctuality / time managemnt sure lots of indians are punctual... you cant compare americans with indians taking the bombay local... trains..😆, careless invasion of personal space if you dont talk you are snobbish if you do that invasion.. thats why indians hate to comingle with unpredictable americans and the aping indians, speaking their own language in a group that includes people who don't understand it i think they dont have anything but english so its not evident but be a group of hispanics and see what they speak, and last but not the least, bad-mouthing whites and blacks) IMHO, not liking these people is not racism. It is expecting a certain polished behaviour as opposed to uncouth.Sorry but i dont seem to like blacks.. true...

I sure dont like the indians who despite knowiing the fact that americans dont really care much try hanging out with them while shunning the indian who has chameli ka tel on his hair and a tika oh his forehead. and smiles at you everyday.on reasons of pure condescension. Reminds of those lagaan pcitures where someone is walking behind a pompous british officer acting servile and a sycophant. For me every indian/asian i meet takes me to some part of india which is a good feeling...why else would I hang out in IF...😊.. I might comingle with others including americans and chinese and mexicanos...etc for intellectual reasons not necessarily social.. and there are few who come across as veri friendly.

well qwert, ignorant or whatever you like to call it, but probably for not being one of those planes full of people coming here to do the same kind of job, I am delighted i don't feel any discrimination..
in fact, i have few americans closer than some of my family & me being part of their life on a regular basis and part of their weddings / other activities make my ignorant bubble extremely enjoyable 😛. Something tells me that very few of those crying discrimination actually have americans working UNDER them as subordinates 😳. So that's where the "lagaan" analogy originates i suppose.
winning people and making a place in their hearts is not for all after all 😳.

@ the comments defending ODD BALL behaviour-
That Indian food is delicious don;t mean you roam around smelling like it. With such arguments and car seat comments, I see where this debate is headed.
You are welcome to have your opinions and I am sorry you felt discriminated against 😳.

You are welcome to have your opinions and I am sorry you felt discriminated against 😳. you are getting me wrong.. I defend peoples right to be rascist just has I have supported the caste system and so on.. Ok secondly we are talking about social interactions.. dont get carried away with people putting up that persona......regarding weddings...etc... I think many of their friends dont get invited... so unless you are a neighbor or some extra-ordinary individual... its veri unlikely they even let you know about their wedding.. its always a close family affair for them...😊
