I have a question😃
you know how we are in school and all... students frettign about our work load, our life, etc. WE do it in class; we do it outside class😆. Then, some of us also work in labs as employees, student employees, ... we deal with a chain.... undergraduates students, graduate students, profs... the chain mentoring downwards, working and laid back... still talking about how drunk everybody got on friday night😆, and how somebody's wife is going for job place, and discussing how all are going on vacation, and how classes suck some more😆 -- all this inside work place! All become friends😳, and what not!! Sometimes, the gap between grad/undergrad studnets being very small...And recently, I was told, anything related to feelings is considered personal, and people usually don't MIX personal and professional life!
You know, I love this atmosphere.... get to listen to stories, talk about the world, and our world, and at the same time get work and hw. done. BUT do you think such interactions thin the line between personal and professional? Do you think it doesn't prepare a person to deal with interpersonal relations workplace outside of school/university?
I had a terrible experience in this regard, and I was sharing my story with a person, who had graduated a year ago, but still works in the lab, and even he said that he should keep so in mind. Working in the laid back/all friends kind of environment ... he, like myself, seem to have forgotten about 'personal' vs. 'professional' sphere, even though the kind of talks the group has is not unprofessional😕 😕 ... I say all cause one could actually end up sabotaging one's career if strays too far. What do you all think?😕
Hope am making sense,
Persy
