mittijalebi I still have not read all the replies but I feel u have done right thing. this is your hard earned money and your husband helped them because BP m/c might have got added to their list in last moment & they might have founf it convinient to ask u to bring along. Now it is their duty to ask & give u money and since they failed to do that so u are asking for it. If this spoils relations then who want to keep relations with such low people who don't relate fair or square & also this will teach them to be cautious next time they try to take you for granted.

During college we friends used to follow mantra that I still like follow if not rigidly "never keep anyone's money & never let anyone go away with your money".

And I am happy that I followed it....when I borrowed 300$ from my friend when I first came to US & totally broke and desperate & not a single penny in my pocket...when I got my first salary I paid him back & he was surprised and this was 6ys ago and till date he remeberes me as only person who returned money without asking. So people should behave morally otherwise other person has to stoop low and ask for his/her own money.

P.S my hubby has lended money to so many friends & never asked. I used to ask him to take money back but I have learned he is not comfortable so I have left him with his beliefs but when I lend money I upfornt tell that I will ask it back so better if they return at their earliest convience that way there are no issues of conflit & feeling bad. After all I have a house to run & family to feed

ok i think the real question should be whether you should ask for your money back with interest and various opportunity costs factored in. after all, you could have invested all of it in on ghoda number 7 and gotten 100 times back for it in the space of a few hours. might as well go for it now, shoot for the moon and all 😆

Dear You misunderstood my statement. I am not at all blaming you for anything. You have right to your money. So go for it and render them the bill for $120 and $400. Hope they will repect your generosity in helping them saving some money and pay you back.

You are right abt these day and age one has to be practical when doing something. Either you do a charity-gift or business transaction but either way next time set your expectations right from the get go.

i understand now. thank you. 😉

Wow.. Raj, this kind of shirt can make me a few thousand dollars richer.. 😆😆 Send me one..
MJ, this was a great topic. I never said anything, because I cannot ask for money back at all. My ex room-mates owe me a few thousand dollars. I feel terrible asking it back knowing I gave them in their VERY BAD times. Although they're happy now, the silly fiancially RETARDED woman in me stops me from contacting them for it.
I think you did the right thing. After all, all these corporate experts like DB, gauri, CB seem to be backing you in getting ur hard earned money back 😊 :)
Raj, your shirt works for me great! :)

Thousands??😲
I am quite uncomfortable myself asking for my money back, but I have never run the bill high (never had that much in excess😆😆), so I don't mind that much. But I can never ever keep someone else's money...(well except for my credit card companies😆😆)....it makes me restless till I pay it back..

When I think about it, I don't think I will be able to ask for it even if I did lend a big amount.

My dad follows the same principle as Tish's: talking about it upfront, however that would make me uncomfortable

oh you should. while you are at it, you should throw a chart or something at them, of the best performing stock/ investment during that time. leave out the losers. then see how much the amount loaned multiplies😆
