I'm right here.. I walked here instead of driving, since I gulped down some at the shop 😛 ...
Well said Rakha👍🏼
@CB: I hope you did go thru the pages before you came back and picked up this debate again dear😊. Someone said something about their bad experience at a project....a regular white collar work.....and in the end..after some debate.... agreed that certain experiences and stereotypes based on those experiences should not be used to deprive eligible women from getting jobs they qualify for.😊
Then, someone pulled a newspaper article about some military stuff in India and that's where this debate turned to military...and now the construction work that you brought in😆.
Frankly speaking yaar, most of the today's young and hip so called mards don't have what it takes to be a heavy wieght champion or handle really heavy construction equipments. If some women out there are capable of doing it....then let it be yaar....who are we to decide what she should or should not be doing. It's not like I am asking for quotas in all sections for women. I am just saying that don't deprive an eligible woman her chance....and this is what I am saying right from the beginning.
The debate topic was whether assignments should be assigned based on gender....and my take still is NO. You want statistics supporting your stand against eligible women....well how about the statistics against all those corrupt male police officers or corporate fraudsters.....most of them happen to be males...don't they. Take a %age of corrupt female police officers among all female police officers...and do the same for males...you'll see a higher %age for corrupt males...and I am using the gender specific denominator here because the entire police force taken as denominator will be unfair to males...as there are more males in police force.
In today's world, the jobs that don't really require any physical labor still outnumber the ones that do. The problem is not so much the nature of job. The main problem...that I am seeing here on this debate as well...is the mindset.
Before you give this whole thing the feminist twist again, as done previously by someone else too, let me reiterate, I am not a feminist yaar...I love males way too much 😆....I am just one of those capable women who happen to know many other capable men and women...(and also not so capable men and women too 😉) I have seen women doctors, teachers, professors, field crew at my work place, police officers ..... as capable as men. I have also seen many women construction workers working side by side with their husbands in India, as Raksha pointed out, and then I have seen these women go home and cook for the family and take care of their babies while the men sit in a corner drinking or gambling.......but that doesn't mean that all men are like that...does it😛😆
haha, "Modern woman is capable of doing anything"? good speech 😛, but i dont buy into it. it does not account for gender differences that nature and God created. i'd rather the employer who has their own money on the line decide what's best for them, rather than have it mandated by an ever-litigious society.
as for construction workers in india go, yes, women do that job in india in large numbers. but that's because men can get away by being bums and have their women work. however, if a man were to apply, i'd say they'd probably be more fit for that job. it's not even that the women are lifting really huge weights.
as for the rest of it, there is no mind-set issue at least as far as i go. i just find that women generally slip away and switch between different roles- mom/ wife/ shopper- as and when it suits them. on the other hand, men are required by societal constraints to excel at work. that focus is what also makes the difference when it comes to productivity.
anyway speeches aside, would you go out and hire women programmers in india if you were setting up a new company? what i've seen is that they jump ship to get a safe cushy government job coz that would make them more marketable in shaadi.com, not exactly the kind of focus an employer wants. i've seen them go for the fraction of the wages in government jobs often leaving the projects at a critical stage. that does not bode well for someone thinking of giving everyone a fair shot. if mentality needs changing, i'd say it's at their end.😉
😆 my hubby quit his well paid private consulting job to a 'cushy" government job whether I decided to stay in the corporate world. I was able to do so because he shares the so called "mommie duties" at home. Mindset is definitely changing....a bit slow...but that shift is happening there. I see it around me. I see men quitting jobs tto be stay at home dads when their wives have been offered executive management positions. Can't stereotype now a days that only women do that. Evolution itself is painfully slow process but once it happens, those who do not change become extinct😉
I have seen men jump ship for better pay as well as for govt. jobs too. It's not only the women who do that. I agree that more women do this than men but that is because of...again...the mindset. If they have a supportive spouse or if men today are willing to share equal responsibilities at home, a lot of the women would not have to quit working to "play mommies". It is this male mindset that needs to be changed.
BTW...we are looking for a match for my younger brother now a days...he has a transferrable job with an MNC, fat pay check, great qualifications.....not even a single working girl so far has agreed because they do not want to quit their jobs whenever he gets transferred. This shift in women mindset in India has happened and making its impact felt. Professional women are not following their hubbies/inlaws like a gai (cow...aka..Ms Icewarya😆) anymore. They are making smart decisions...both personally and professionally😊.
hmmmmmmmmm you think it's okay for a woman to do manual construction job when her hubby is a loser.....huh....if not, then compete against the men at workplace....interesting "mindset" there buddy😆 I still say that if a woman is eligible.....she should get the job/assignment/project.😃
according to my observations in childhood
actually most of the women on a construction site basically have their hubby's working side by side, rarely it would be a single mom or the husband is useless(that is a filmi stereotype brought into real life without any sense of reality😉), but most of the time, it is the 2 income family
they are paid less b'cos the effectivity is lesser as compared to men, e.g carry bricks from point X to point Y and make 10 trips, takes more time for women than men, just the physical strength difference. Many a times women workers are turned away when there is time crunch, Many a times men workers are turned away b'cos the budget is tight, That is not a bias, that is practicality

haha, i think most "professional women" would do well to follow aish, gai or no gai.😛 made millions. knew what she wanted, went for it, achieved it. unlike the so called "professional women" who are too confused and make a mess of both their professional and personal lives, all so that they can act "bindaas" desi-female style.😉
as for the mind-set thing, u are again missing the point of my example. i am talking about women ditching great-paying fast-track jobs coz they cant wait to get married. will not see too many guys being that desperate. 😉not very professional i tell u.😉 i am not talking about guys and gals switching jobs coz they have achieved financial independence or can afford to take it easy/ take risk.
Sorry to interupt a wonderful discussion, but one request - Can we avoid long quotes. It really makes it very difficult to understand who is answerign what. Instead of one were to quote only that part which is under reply, will make it easier for the eyes. Plus long quotes play havoc with the page set up etc.
