I havent been addicted to K dramas yet, I have watched two shows now - Descendants of the Sun (and omg I was ecstatic when Song Joong ki and Song Hye Kyo married in real life, and then heartbroken when they divorced too 💔), and then watched another show called Masters of the Sun..it was a lovely show but too dragged out..

IMO, i find K dramas very similar to BW movies..very dramatic and lovely romance etc..😆 just with Korean faces..😆

I know that Kpop culture explosion is real though..I had a cousin who was learning Korean language because she was absolutely in love with everything Kpop

Oh yaar kya yaad dila diya...song hye and song jong 💔

Fitte muh!!! My heartbreak!!!!

Then ok I understand not only ships sail.

Masters of the sun was boring I guess. I didn't watch it tho.

Kdramas are not similar to BW movies pls no 😆

Some are but majority ..A big NO.

Dive into Sci -fi, mystery, fantasy , time travel ,suspense . You'll find no similarities.

1. Limited episodes - even though they follow a pattern like must kiss/start of the relationship in ep 8 out of 16, they are SHORT compared to ITV.

2. Visuals, fashion, CGI - best eye therapy😎, promo for Samsung mobiles esp😆 designer clothes/accessories/jewelry. CGI is used more in Cdramas than K still I loved Island for their CGI.

3. Clichés are always(mostly) done right. Childhood friends, country romance trope etc.

4. Leads actually go to WORK - office romance happens in office where they also deal with some real things(iykyk what I wanted to say in the place of 'things')

Medical dramas are more than just a white coat here. Even though shows that air on TV blur out the surgery part I like the details they put in explaining cases. Bring out different/least expected complications or symptoms.

Similarly, legal dramas. Some dramas even address real life crimes.

5. Action scenes are not choreographed. Even though characters don't die instantly after a gunshot they don't have a 20 mark essay to recite before dying here.

6. After watching many Kdramas if you miss ITV and think, 'ek EK style ka show tho banta hai yaar life main'- then there's a readymade genre for you called Makjang. Penthouse dekh ke hypertension se diarrhea tak aasakta hai😆 My fav makjang is Remarriage and Desires.

7. Mostly actors are not overdressed. Few do but negligible.

Watch Remarriage & Desires and The Glory😆 what's unique about them? You might not need any blood pressure pills while watching them🤣

World of the married and the glory just boiled my blood too much. I avoid makjangs. But these 2 and sky castle uff...

Too dark and sar peet liya maine itna drama.. but yes its the best version of ITV. I enjoyed alot.

Kill It was one of my fav dramas 🤣 except the ending ofc. But him as a killer🔥🔥🔥

Damn yes they have a very normal looking night outfit 😆

Penthouse 🤣 have some blood pressure pills nearby 😆

+1 that makes Kdrama > ITV is the organized events. Teaser-trailer-individual posters-press con-drama-cp promotion shoot. Once I had to make an edit for a ITV show and I had to pull my hairs out searching Twitter for HQ snaps😳

That's cuz you're used to watch 1.5hrs/ep of Thai dramasmiley37

Thanks for tagging me to this thread. Loving the passion here. Haven't managed to read all the posts but will do slowly. From the little I read, cannot help but agree with most of what is being written here.

I have been heavily addicted to Kdramas for a while now. Historical dramas, the romances, the slice-of-life stories or the fantasy/supernatural storylines, have watched my share of all these genres. The Hallyu wave hit me and how! I might be a little out of touch with the present fare that is on offer especially the shows available on youtube but I know I will catch up with most if not all of them sooner or later.

Shows that will always remain in my heart:

1) Pasta (romance)

2) My Mister (slice-of-life)

3) Goblin/The Guardian (fantasy)

4) Good Manager/ Chief Kim (comedy)

5) The Crowned Clown (historical)

Favourite actors: Lee Sun Gyun (what a crush I had on him!) and Gong Yoo.

Actresses: Gong Hyo Jin and Song Ji Hyo. Also IU.

Recently I have been watching a lot of C-dramas as well. It all started with The Rise of the Phoenixes, the show on Netflix and then one thing led to another and now am hooked to these as well.

Some shows I really liked and would recommend for beginners:

1. Under the Skin (mystery)-this one is a real top-notch show, very underrated.

2. Nirvana In Fire (historical)

3. Dine with Love (romance)

4. Please be my family (romance-family) ---a very calm and pleasurable watch for people who like the romance without the drama

5. Heroin (BL)

Also there are Thai lakorns but those are not for the faint-hearted and I haven't watched any in a while. I do love their BLs though. Bad Buddy is one show I definitely would recommend. It will surely have you grinning in the middle of a workday simply based on the memory of the show.

It's the structured plot.... No unnecessary dragging.... The characters don't take a 360 degree turn from their actual characterization.

Also...they don't have negative characters just for the sake of having one... Everyone has a backstory not just the leads.

My recommendations -

1. Tale of nine tailed - both seasons (you'll fall for the antagonist because of his amazing portrayed backstory...and it's the case in both the seasons)

2. Good Bad Mother

3. Prosecutor doberman

4. Happiness

5. Alchemy of souls

And many more...😆

Sorry I often get tired of writing...thats why cutting short my list. Thank you for the tag tho❤️
