I personally know a lot of conservatives that have been posting stories in favour of Qatar. The attitude of these individuals towards the LGBT community is no secret. To call all those opposing the Qatari WC as racist is simply wrong. Others are arguing that sporting events shouldn’t be used for political motives also have this whole thing wrong. The issue here aside from the financial corruption of FIFA, human rights of labourers and banning of alcohol sales aside, is that LGBT people aren’t being told to “cover up and show modesty in our deeply religious society”. It is Qatar saying they practically deny their entire existence and their way of life.

If one is honest to the values/rights of humanity, one should have declined to participate.

So again it's a proof that money corrupts...

Quatar as a CHOSEN country for the World Championship has the right to oppose each demonstration of social/political statements on this platform.

I've a major concern for the consequences that will follow the act of the Iranian team at home. It has nothing to do with Quatar and football but with what happenes in their homeland...and they have family there...

Qatar is what it is..it's belief system is known.

Still FIFA went ahead and chose the country to host WC..All those who chose to participate or came to watch were not unaware of what would happen..at least it isn't unexpected..

It's hypocrisy to complain now when they didn't decline then. Countries r participating, millions r watching and stadiums r packed I suppose..which shows they dont give a damn.

The only positive outcome is that this news got worldwide attention and hopefully will bring some change in outlook

I agree with you, Kyahikahoon... that's why I wrote that FIFA is - mainly - finacially interested (since too long already) ...

There had been time enough to oppose to Qatar as a place for this sports event and react consequently...the social-political situation there was known.

Open the mouth now, when the event happens, reeks - also for me - of hypocrisy.
