Since others have already mentioned all important things in regards to the plot, I just want the shows to have finite episodes and not fall out of the core premise to make it a drag fest.

I want to see Indian tv shows based on novels, novellas and short stories. There are many engaging books and they are written by Indian authors. I don't want to see dramatic effects and cliche scenes. Loud background music shouldn't be used in the shows. A thriller should really need to be thrilling and a supernatural drama should show good VFX. I also want to watch unconventional love stories. Most of shows need to consist of maximum 30 episodes (40 or 45 minutes long episode). I prefer watching short and interesting shows.

Exactly!! I love Rabindranath Tagore's short stories! It was beautifully shot and made.

There are amazing novels in regional and Hindi languages. Just make a true adaptation of them.

Make all the shows limited series, 100-200 or 300 episodes max.

Bengali literature is really rich! There are so many books! Sunil Gangopadhyay, Shirshendu Mukhopadhyay, Bibhutibhushan Bondhopadhyay wrote a lot of books. Suchitra Bhattacharya wrote interesting novels based on human relationships. But Bengali channels are filled with saas bahu dramas. Anish Deb wrote many horror novels and thrillers. But there is no horror show in any Bengali channel. On the hand hand, there are many English books written by Indian authors. I heard Ajay K Pandey's books such as You are The Best Wife and The Girl in the Red Lipstick are interesting books. Those books can be made into tv shows. I am a fan of Ruskin Bond. So, I want to see adaptations of his books. As far as number of episodes are concerned, I like short shows. For instance, Pakistani drama, Zindagi Gulzar Hai (26 episodes) and Chinese drama, Love O2O (30 episodes) are both short. But I like them both. They are both interesting.

Exactly! SLB attempted something from the iconic Saraswatichandra but nope. I've read the novel and it's so good. The show was a joke.

Indian Television has many references by itself to look back on.

When Indian Television moved from storytelling to Saas-Bahu drama ith supernatural abilities is beyond one's imagination.

ALL of us would like to watch good stories being shown realistically.

It's probably easier to list what we definitely don't want to see:

1.Every show today has a business empire with people talking in nothing less than crores.

2. Everyone (like everyone) has easy access too goondas. Life has no value, literally. Anyone can get Anyone else hurt, hit, beaten, murdered.

3. The women folk are fully dressed and made-up atn any time of day or night with not a strand of hair out of place.

4. There is no role of a male character in any TV series these days.

5. Plastic surgery is a norm to accommodate for changing actors on shows running to years to a point of stagnation.

6. The sacred institution of marriage is made out to be a joke. Each character marries multiple times and divorces them like a click of a button.

Oh! The rant can continue.

Thanks to one of the members for pointing out, EPIC Channel is an example. It started really well.

As an audience, there are so many topics and genres to be explored and so many stories to be said.

Pre-requisites:

1. Most of them to be scientific and logical.

2. Limited series to ensure there is a wide variety and scope for improvement.

May be:

1. A courtroom drama showing how a case is actually run, factual legal process.

2. Actual and Factual Crime Investigation by Law enforcement.

3. Science made easy and interesting with simple experiments for ALL age groups.

4. Pure comedy shows

5. Historical shows about ALL regions.

6. Travelogues acting as an actual discovery of India.

7. News that's just News and that too only for 2 hours a day. 4 times a day, 30 mins each like it used to be during Doordarshan days.

8. Series of short stories (remember there was Directors' Cut on DD-Metro then moved to Star Plus).

The eternal optimist is hopeful for a change🤞🏼.

Adding to this that Epic Channel had really amazing finite shows across genres like Stories by Rabindranath Tagore, Daanav Hunters, Daribaa Diaries, Time Machine, Siyaasat etc. But the channel didn't have enough exposure and doesn't produce anymore ig.

Epic ke 10, Raja, Rasoi aur Anya Kahaaniyaan, Tyohaar ki Thaali, Dharmakshetra.

The acting and production was also great. I really wished these shows got mainstream exposure.

I thing regional languages and channels did start a series of wonderfully made shows true to cultural ethos and closer to life. It is true for ALL languages.

Some examples on Kannada being: T N Seetharam shows like Mayamruga, Muktha, Manvanthara, Muktha-Muktha, Magalhu Janaki, Others like GinhiRama, Moodalamane, Maneyondu Moorubaagilu, Preethi illadamele, Silli Lalli, Paapa Pandu, Kannadati.

Everyone has already mentioned great points. Here are few from my side-

  • Can we expect more genres like thrillers, fantasy, cop based / various work field based ( docs, engineers, teachers, MNC employees etc) it's always daily soap with romance at every step or slapstick comedy.
  • Time limit should be there- make the story short enough if not short like 20-25 epi let it be 300 episodes, but the story should be complete and shouldn't go haywire
  • Bring back literature and comic book adaptation. oh what would I give to see Malgudi days/ chacha choudhary/ panchatantra/ alif laila back on screen. And no they aren't for children alone.
  • I would like to see journey of an individual with all his qualities and setbacks not how mahan and problem solver he is.
  • We need male perspective shows.
  • Make something for kids- school life, it's challenges, how everything is changed post pandemic.
