Pilgrims gather for Indian Mela
A Hindy holy man
Around 60 million Hindus are expected to take part in the Ardh Kumbh Mela festival which has got under way in Allahabad in northern India.

Pilgrims gather at the confluence of the holy Ganges, Yamuna and Saraswati rivers in a bid to wash away their sins.

Logistics to provide food, water and shelter to the milling crowds are key worries for officials throughout the Ardh Kumbh Mela, which takes place every 12 years.

Are you there or about to go there? Whether you are travelling there from abroad or other parts of India, Sharehere your experiences😳

Yeah!! Nice topic on current issues!!

I personally don't go to these type of things as I lack faith in these procedures and I'm scared about cleanniness.

But I don't comment on others as it is a matter of faith. The spirit with which people try to go and worship is really applaudablešŸ‘.

Its a herculian task for the administraters also.

Last but not the least the I really feel sad for the attention given to those hardly dressed sadhus by the international media.

Cheers,

Mythili

Unfortunately cant avoid it, I dont go, they come to meet mešŸ˜† šŸ˜† , cant go b'cos I hate what goes on there, cant leave town b'cos you never know who šŸ˜‰ might rob your home

Was too little to follow the first one, all I remember there were scare's of sadhu's stealing children

Second one, remember it too well, too much of disease outbreak, too much of unsavory crowds, lots of robberies occuring

Third time, I left town, in addition to the above, my folks told me they had to deal with a lot of elders whom a lot of children had "accidently" forgotten to take back home

Overall, it is a very good time to be a member of the governing body, if you catch my drift šŸ˜‰

Good topic. Difficult issue.

I would never go to such places. To me, washing away sins is better done by not making newer ones and repenting for the ones already done.
Why ruin a river for that? Does washing one's dirty body really wash one's dirty mind?
This also seems like a misconstrued custom to me as do most. Perhaps it started as a measure to provide hope to "those who repented their deeds and found it hard to start fresh. it was probably an opportunity for them to change" . Now even a killer can go take a dubki, not feel responsible for their misdeeds and come back clean and make some new ones until the next mela ? Great!! 🤢 🤢 🤢

No offence to anyone who goes to Kumbh Melas but I personally dislike this whole thing and I can't stand the sight of those barely clad Sadhus. Can't imagine people taking a dip along with those Sadhus🤢 and making the river dirty.

If Sadhus can change with the times, why can't we? šŸ˜›

I'd never go to ardh kumb and the like. Firstly i don't beleiev in them. Secondly i don't like crowds and there's way too many people there. The river would probabily be the dirtiest then, then why should i dirty muself, i'd rather take a bit at a time when i expect it to be cleaner.

lastly, even i cannot stand the crowds/shadhus. I don't even know if they're all genuine. Plus, from my visits to such places i've seem that many sadhus are drunk. I think they're fakes. Sorry if that hurt someone, but thats my view, you're also entitled to your own view :)
