All I can say is, one is never aware of their own birth and their own death.

Think about it.

You (as in, anyone can substitute their own name here) never know how you entered the physical world and how you exited the physical world. You (as in, anyone can substitute their own name here) would only see people being born and people dying around you.

How is it that you are aware of all other births and deaths but your own?

Yes, Angie, I can see that you liked the post and i appreciate it but you didn't get it.

What I posed was, to my mind, the most important question ever posed which (as far as I know) nobody else ever did.

Two top events of anyone's "life" - the start of the said life and the end of the said life. And one is not privy to both events!!

All you have to rely on is others' evidence on those two events. You don't know how/why you entered and you wouldn't know how/when you will exit.

I wonder why this is so!

It may take time for me to write how this ties to the infallible principles of quantum mechanics and the extremely compelling simulation theory but I see the connections instinctively.

Does the one who is to be privy to these events have the means to do so? People in the real world need to have sight organs and a functioning visual cortex to be privy to any event.

In case you decide to extend the limits of our Real world and borrow the concept of non-physical entity, mentioned as soul/spirit in our ancient scriptures its a different matter altogether 😆

All you have to rely on is others' evidence on those two events. You don't know how/why you entered and you wouldn't know how/when you will exit.

So...A simulated world needs to be built where one can practice entry and exit at will !?

I wonder why this is so!

Imagine what can happen if one retains the memory and ability to enter and exit at will. Flexi hours not permitted ...at least not yet ! 😆

It may take time for me to write how this ties to the infallible principles of quantum mechanics and the extremely compelling simulation theory but I see the connections instinctively.

Ai yai yai!!!

We have an insurmountable origin problem.

The origin of the universe is unknown. Supposedly, it all started off with an incomprehensible state of physics-defying, math-defying, hot dense mass, then a big bang happened, and next thing you know, x billion years later, we have this close-to-infinite universe around us.

How?! Naturally, they say!

The origin of life is unknown. Primordial soup, reducing gasses (none of which existed on early earth) were assumed and yet the best of human minds couldn't produce the most basic of building blocks of life in our most sophisticated of laboratories using the latest and greatest instruments. Mind you, at this point, we are not even talking about the problem of amino acids linking up to form long chains of proteins and then RNA and then DNA and then special cells like neurons and then ...humans...

How did all this happen?! Naturally, they say!

So intelligently guiding the systems and processes couldn't produce anything worthwhile but that's not stopping some of them from saying that somehow everything came about naturally!

You don't need a PhD to say this is B.S.

Nature is random and randomness supports disorder, not order.

If early neanderthals could become the current day humans, by extension, the current day humans could become super intelligent (thanks to AI and other advances) in x years that we too could at least simulate the universe that we live in. It has to be a virtual world logically because even the fundamental particles that make up the universe that we live in are nothing but potentials / probabilities (a.k.a. waves) when we get to the nitty gritty of it suggesting this too is a virtual world.

Why would we simulate? We would simulate because we are naturally curious. Curious to know how self sustaining electro-chemical systems can form and evolve. Curious to find a solution to the origin problem.

Any entity that is conscious would like to know how it came to be. As simple as that.

Great. Lets fast forward ..from neanderthals to present humans to super intelligent humans (thanks to Artificial Intelligence...) Voila! A simulated world similar to ours has been created. Now for the umpteenth time, who are going to be in that simulated world ? The super intelligent humans OR virtual beings , with / without consciousness?
K, that is crucial.

Assuming it's the super intelligent humans, how would it affect your day to day behavior.

Assuming it's the virtual beings , how do you think it would it affect your day to day behavior.

^^ Depends on how you think they are going to deduce the purpose of life through the simulated world that they might build. 😛

Contrary to what you guys think, I don't have ALL the answers :)

I do have some answers:

1. The purpose of life is not just to survive but to thrive

2. Life can survive and thrive only when life develops intelligence

3. The answer to why life wants to survive and thrive is, to the best of my reasoning, built in the DNA. Editing to add that, for life, groups/species acquire significance over individual births and deaths.

4. My educated guess as to what answer is built in the DNA is, in the form of a mutation. After all, we share 99% of our DNA with chimps and they don't thrive, we do, and they don't contemplate about the purpose of life, like some of us do.

5. I have some understanding of how mutations occur. I don't know what mutation can cause some people like me who may have everything (touch-wood!) still wonder about the point of all this in a very detached manner. To me, that suggests that there is more to life than surviving and thriving. Perhaps, we need to solve The Why. Why are we here?

This is my last post on this thread.
