The music world is mourning the loss of Assam's beloved singer Zubeen Garg, who tragically passed away in a scuba diving accident in Singapore on September 19, 2025. The 52-year-old cultural icon was set to perform at the 4th North East India Festival, where he was scheduled to showcase his soulful voice. Just a day before his untimely death, Garg had extended a heartfelt invitation to fans on Instagram, eagerly anticipating the event. His passing has sent shockwaves across the state, with fans, peers, and leaders paying tribute to his legacy.
Zubeen was in Singapore for the 4th North East India Festival, where he was slated to perform. He had posted an invitation on Instagram the day before the accident, expressing his excitement for the event.
In the post, he said, "Friends in Singapore, I will like to invite you to 4th North East India Festival in Suntec, Singapore during 20th and 21st September. Come and explore the exotic part of India, we are carrying quality agri, craft products, tea experience, dance forms, fashion shows and evening musical show presenting Rock bands, rappers from India's North East. I will be there throughout the Festival as Cultural Brand Ambassador and will perform on 20th evening with my popular Hindi, Bengali and Assamese Songs. I would like to invite you all, it will be Saturday and Sunday and entry is free. All come and support us. Cheers!"

Zubeen, a multi-instrumentalist proficient in 12 instruments including the anandalahari, dhol, and guitar, was Assam's highest-paid singer and a celebrated musician. He married Garima Saikia, a fashion designer from Golaghat, Assam, on February 4, 2002.
