Looks like this thread is doubling as a "support group" now, whenever a terrorist event takes place anywhere in the world.

On refugees - I think the millions of them should stand up and fight for their lives and civil rights/liberties in their countries of origin, instead of running away to other countries. You have a problem, you fix it. Why look up to others to bail you out? At what point in time, will pride kick in?

As for "economic benefits" - too early to say. I read that tourists are staying away from these "troubled" countries being plagued with one terrorist event after another.

What a hot piping mess! Man!

Whatever the PR circus is, the narratives do not make sense to me.

Taylor Swift PR has carefully crafted the "good girl" and "bestie" image. PR does entail suppressing the negative while amplifying the positive. However, a carefully constructed PR message is consistent and does not conflict with itself.

The possibility of being labeled as "liar" and "snake" is a complete contrast to the image Taylor Swift has constructed. Someone like Kim Kardashian can afford to be in the limelight for good and bad publicity, because her image is one crafted of "pure publicity". Someone like Taylor Swift cannot risk having too much bad publicity and eroding her carefully constructed image.

If Taylor indeed gave permission to use the song, her PR would have admitted that she gave permission but put a spin on it (like I suggested in my previous post). She could have played victim, upheld her "good girl" and "bestie" image while avoiding the "liar" and "snake" altogether. Gambling on a Kardashian not to leak footage is a dumb mistake.

Either Taylor's PR had ameteur hour (which conflicts with the carefully crafted image)

There is more to the story than meets the eye from Taylor's side.

I'm going with the latter.

PS: Sometimes I feel you don't read and it can be infuriating. Like I am admitting that she does play victim card and that there were opportunities to play the victim card with a lot more finesse, but you are Lol ing that I am insinuating she doesn't play victim. I don't get it.

I think the pursuit of happiness is intrinsic to human nature and people will always seek to find a place to be safe and happy. Staying back and fighting requires courage, resilience and risk taking very few people have. Human history is full of migrations to greener pastures.

Sure there have been revolutions and freedom movements, but it takes a certain critical mass for revolution to take place.

I think compassion is the primary driving force for accepting refugees. It would be inhuman to let people suffer when you can alleviate the suffering.

It does entail high risks though. Rather than the terrorist risk, I feel the bigger risk is strife between immigrants who won't assimilate and natives who want immigrants to assimilate. On the other hand the risk is of being perceived as a monster. Also leaving too many vulnerable makes them more susceptible to crime and terrorist recruiting.

I think refugees should be accepted. But only after laying out an assimilation plan. Have them in controlled & monitored refugee camps before you integrate them into society. Be willing to reject people who are not malleable in their ideologies.

If you want shelter in my home you will binge watch the shows I do. If you want your own shows, find your own TV and shelter.

RTH, I would rather alleviate the thousands and thousands of chronically homeless within US with my tax dollars, by providing them with healthcare, housing and other assistance, than accept more homeless from outside the country and not know what to do with them at first.

The assimilation plan (or whetting plan) that you or Hillary are laying out, is unworkable.

I have no problem with this. I am all for it. This is definitely a higher priority.

I still feel we can include a small percentage of refugees in the budget. You can allocate expenditure on a sliding scale of importance.
