I think the notion of "valid" argument is a fuzzy one.
Many personal perceptions and opinions are validated through years of life experiences. A lot of their friends, family and acquaintances subscribe to these views and further validate them through their experiences.
People can end up with diametrically opposite opinions based on their experiences. One person's valid argument often doesn't hold ground through the lens of another individual. You may think you have refuted every point and counterpoint. However, the data could still be insufficient in light of everything else that has driven them to their conclusions.
If you are entering a debate with the intent that you will change people's opinions or If you expect people to concede to what are valid points to you, then most likely you won't get anything useful out of debates. Just frustration.
The important thing is to question and be questioned so you get a better sense of your own convictions.

Most importantly, there should never be a point where arguments take a personal term. Having a different opinion on one topic doesn't mean we stereotype an individual. Best is to never carry the residual after a debate is concluded.
I think many people have a tendency to take disagreement personally.
If I took disagreements personally, I'd never make any friends on IF. Actually, I've had the most heated arguments with my closest friends. 😆
