Good Morning Friends Of IF!!!!

Hi!!!!!

Friends!!!! People always keep on complaining about a person or movie or book by saying "it lacks ethics".What are ethics???

According to me ethics are relative.what may be ethical to us may be unethical to another.Ethics differ from religion to religion, country to country.

People just try to pretend that they are ethical. Are ethics really necessary if a person has humanity.Humanity and compassion to feelow living beings is more important htan pretending to be ethical.

Cheers,

I think it varies person to person. However I do believe there are things such as ethics.

Example: Not giving your best friend the job if there is a more qualified candidate.

Mithalli,
Humanity and compassion for fellow human beings ARE ethics. 'Do unto others asyou would have others do unto you...' 'Atamvat sarvabhutanam...', that principle is ethics and almost universal.
A.S.

Exactly what I wanted to say.

Ethics are moral values of BEHAVIOUR. If we are acting within an aceptable standard of behaviour, we are right; otherwise we are wrong.
Its our human nature to set our own standards and judge ourselves if we are ethical or unethical. But Society, Govt. and organizations set their own code of ethics to judge General Public. But why are we so narrow minded to judge ourselves by these limited rules.
For example a Smoker over 19 thinks he is smoking because it is legall to smoke after 19 years of age and an Alcohalic, can get drunk because he has a right to do so. It means smoking and drinking is legal for 19+ kids because they are going by govt laws but Drugist is Illegal to take Marijuanna because it is banned by Govt. Why a Smoker's behaviour is ethical but not a drugists? It is just because we love to follow Limited Rules and satisfy ourselves that our behaviour is ethical. But do you think a Mother, whose 19+ only child is addicted to smoking and drinking thinks her child's behaviour is ethical? No, mother knows that these addictions will kill him one day and she tries to teach the Philosophy of Right or Wrong to her child. She will never teach his child to behave ethically without thinking about what is right or wrong for him.

Nice topic...

Ethics is the way you conduct yourselves, its the way you react to things and people..I say its not at all subjective and the code of ethics is universal...

I go with what Abhijit Shukla quoted above...'Do unto others what you would do unto yourself'

"Sathyam brooyat priyam brooyat,
na brooyat sathyam apriyam,
na brooyat asathyam priyam"

Speak the truth, dont speak the truth which is hurting and dont speak the untruth just because it sounds good...

luv,
Raksha

Dear Friends!!!
Really I liked your veiws and the refernce to the quotes from upanidshads makes me write me some more things.I remember the following quote from Rigveda
"LET NOBLE THOUGHTS COME TO US FROM EVERYSIDE"
India is Karma bhoomi. What made India diifferent from other countries is the inherent ,unimposed ethical system.I don't say other country people lack ethics but ethics help people to lead life in a more planned manner. But in this digital age people may sometimes be backward if they follow ethics all the times. For example consider a pure vegetarian who has the habit of eating only the food prepared from his/her home, say he's working in some MNC then if there is a pary there if he deneis to eat the food there (infact eating outside may be unthical to him/her) it will have lot of impact on his career at intial stages(only at intial stages). But at the same time people with ethics will be honoured.

Reminds me of a debate in B school! Vivekanand once said-Whatever is right still remains right even if no one follows it and whatever is wrong remains so inspite of every one following it. This poses the question of who and what defines right or wrong.

It's after a lot of thought that i realised that we individuals may support our "wrong actions" with so many things eg. circumstances, society etc but deep down probably at a subconcious level every one knows the difference.

Used to be the motto of a well reputed Gujju magazine. Loved it. I believe it has always inspired me to be a pragmatic person. WHo says scriptures are just for the books? THanks mitali for reminding me of this great saying.

Thank You. I like the above quote so much.Infact I use it many times .We need not quote keats, frost all the times we have so many things in Indian things. But like Robert Frost also very much.Really I liked debate Mansion a lot
