I could care less about certain religios terms used in a National song...Even if the jana gana mana has references to Allah,I would have proudly and happily recited it,as I believe in the oneness of God...Ram,Allah,Jesus all are different incarnations of the same allmighty power.....

When I was in school I had to recite christian hymns...I felt no different when I sing a christian hymn and a hindu shlok...Thus I fail to understand the big hoohah that people make out of a small trivial issue....For me,country ALWAYS comes before religion...
and if my national song has references to gods of other religions,I would yet chant them

Well then thats wrong as we are going against democracy forcing some one to do something and making an issue out of something when there isn't.

I am against Muslim clerics issuing fatwa on this issue or for that matter any issue. I am also against thrusting something on a community against their wishes. India is a secular country then why is it necessary for us to thrust Vande Mataram against a community's wishes?

Vande Mataram has been controversial right from the beginning which is why it was not chosen as our National Anthem. So what has changed now? Muslims believe that there is only one God, He is the supreme and never make any of his creations equal to him and that's the reason they object to 'Mother, I bow to thee'. I agree that this issue is creating an unnecessary controversy. I simply detest things forced on people by Mullahs, Missionary or Hindutva brigade. Our country needs to concentrate on much serious issues.

BTW, Anju someday Muslim clerics could object to "Saare jaahan se accha....Hindustan hamara " as it contains the word "Hindustan" !!

😊 I hope they know that Hindustan simply means the place on the banks of River Indus (Sindhu river) and people were called Hindus because of that.

In my opinion 'Saare Jahaan Se Acha' brings out patriotism without distressing any religions beliefs and also very easy to understand and recite by most Indians. Unlike Vande Mataram this was written in praise of our motherland (India).

The irony is,Saare jahan se accha, hindustan hamara was penned by Iqbal, who later moved to Pakistan...and I've read in some Pakistani forums that the song belongs to Pakistan, but has been "stolen" by India😕

How can a song composed in 1905 (way before partition) and written in praise of 'Hindustan' could be stolen by India😕?

Some lines from Saare Jahaan.....

'O water of the mighty flow of the Ganga, do you remember the day
When on your banks, our caravan had landed'

River Ganga is in india.😊

hmmm interesting topic

there was a debate abt this a while ago too

like anju di i also think there r other issues much more greater issues to be concerned with and this is too small a thing to make a big fuss over.

i read the english transalation aparna di provided and all its basically doing is praising the motherland. yea more towards the end there r refereneces to hindu goddesses but the 1st two stanzas are simple patriotism and nothing more.

to mandate ppl to recite it or to force people not to recite it is completely wrong. whether a person decides to recite something like this should be a matter of personal choice, especially in a country as diverse and secular as india. it is a patriotic song and there is no harm in singing a patriotic song to glorify thr country you live in. if people feel a partiotic song is going against their religious beliefs, they shouldnt sing it, but they shouldnt fight against it because in doing so they are disrespecting their country and giving their religion a bad name. what is worse is that they demand that others follow them..ok if you want to be weird fine but y r u trying 2 make others follow you.

all i can say is...ppl r weird 😕

This reminds me of the controversy that happened in the US when people refused to say the pledge of allegiance because it contained the words "under God" and was required in most public schools here. Now, people are allowed to choose, and I think that is the right thing.

The government should not be allowed to force people to say or do anything they don't want to. As much as I hate the way people dogmatically follow religious leaders, Muslim leaders aren't forcing people to not sing Vande Mataram as in, they aren't beating people and whatnot. Things will stay the same, those who want to listen will listen, and those who don't won't.

I agree, there are bigger and more important problems in the world.

its sad to object vande matram on the basis of religion. where were these leaders after so many yrs of independence🤢.there is nothing wrong in singing of vande matram.

there r other religions too like Sikh , christians but no one have any problem with this. so why only muslims. For everyone Country comes first and then religion.if somebody thinks that religion comes first for him & then country then I'll say that this person is Not at all patriotic .

buffie assuming here u are also hindu like me

hindus do not mind bowing to allah or christ also because all of these are different manifestations of the same god for us hindus
the rig veda states that there is one truth though the sages know it differntly
meaning all paths lead to god irrespective of the source

that isnt the case with islam or christianity
they believe that only their path is the true path and the rest are infidels heathens kafir etc
so they try to convert other ppl either by force or monetary inducement
bcos according to their religions only their path is the true path
