I cant but help ask that question...because the leaders the people select change colours once they get the reins of power...and this whole system is so corrupt, that even well meaning people cant survive long.

Take the case of India...when there are terrorist attacks or anything..rather than being united and trying to weed out the problems, the opposition and the parliament play the blame game...each one blaming the other. Rather than the cause of the nation, the leaders tend to think of their own selfish needs only....most of the tme atleast...

is there an effective solution to all this? Is it possible to really give the power in "people's " hands, or is it something suitable just as an ideal?

Well i attended a debate workshop conducted by our local World School Debators and we got a lecture of Politics.

The truth is, democracy is based on the underlying principal of 'power to the people'. But well democracy is closly examined, this prncipal is seem to be undermined. With the presence of Special Interests Groups, Lobby Groups and the root of all evil - MONEY. Its just impossible to say Democracy ends up bring as great as it seems.
