Mini and short clothes

Indian Models (like Malika Arrora) say that wearing short clothes is a sign that you live in 21st century. Is it really true? If yes, how come then short clothed women remind me of our primitive ancestors who did not cover themselves for the fact that they did not know how to make one. Some women even link these clothes to freedom. What's your opinion about it?

OMG...are you a mind-reader?...i wrote the same topic...but when i posted it i got an error msg 😕 ...and when i refreshed i saw this topic so now i dont need 2 make that topic 😳

ok this is another 1 of the topics i can passionately talk abt so if i seem 2 in2 it plz bring me back on earth 😆

i completely disagree with malika arora's statement.
it is rather ironic of modernized women to feel that making themselves "sex toys" for men is helping them bring about equality. by dressing in an overly slutty way, they are giving men the power not only to take over them, but their body as well. no one is telling anyone to live locked up in their house of be inferior to men...by dressing in a slutty manner, the women are allowing the men to judge them based on their looks and they are objectifying noy only their body but women all together. my dressing in modest clothing, they can do whatever they please and men will see them for who they are not how much skin they can show or what their bodyy looks like. it will allow women to achieve the long deserved status of equality to men because both men and women will be judged based on their actions, thoughts, ideas, personality etc

im sorry, i might sound too conservative or what not but i have very firm believes about this

O.K i think Mallika Arora's point was that "We have the choice in the 21st Century to choose how we want to dress up!!" In the earlier era's in Asia and even the Victorian age in the West , when a woman wore revealing clothes she was considered a loose character.

The point she may have been trying to make is that the 21st Century only has to pick HER OWN MORAL CODES and not the one dictated to her by the society . In Countries like ours , India We don't have moral, religous police that imposes dress codes on women or even men as its done in some parts of the world still.

I as a 21st Century woman feel comfortable in tank tops and shorts. Thats my choice . I wear a saree in front of elders just as a mark or respect ....Nothing else. Not because its imposed on me.

I think we need to see what her point was in a postive way rather than bash her for her opinion and look at it in a way that she intented to say that less you dress....more modern you become! I don't think that was her intention.

well i'm surprised she thinks like this!! i understand that wearing mini skirts might be the sign that you are from 21st century, but this is not written in my book! what about all the women who wear traditional clothing and they live in 21st century too; so this mean that they think they are really old fashion or something!!

I think it's everyone's choice whether how they want to dress or not, and clothing doesn't define what century you live in, but more over personality does. If clothing was to define the time or period you live in, than all the women should start wearing mini skirts! It actually the way a person thinks that should be given more importance as regarding the period you live in!! NO matter what you wear, by the end of the day, the thing that matters is, your way of thinking!!

cheers

I agree with Aparna.

Mallika may have meant that we as women have a choice what to wear, since it is the 21st century. Those times are over when women were forced to be suppressed, and now they are coming out into the light.

But honestly, how does dressing make a woman slutty? If she knows where to wear certain clothes, has the body, and can carry anything off with grace, then why can't she wear mini skirts and short clothes if she wants to?

If a woman is conservative, due to religion or because she wants to be, there is nothing wrong with that, as long as she is comfortable.

If women are sex objects because of showing some skin, then what about men who walk around shirtless?

Is the woman still going to bashed? I still feel we have many double-standards, in both Western and Eastern society.

Clothing should not matter. If someone is wearing designer clothes, and the other cheap thrift clothes, does that automatically mean the richer person with expensive clothes is better? NO! So the same issue arises with showing some skin. The girl wearing a short skirt and tube top could be the nicest person with a witty sense of humor, and the more conservative one can be mean, and possible even stuck up.

There is a girl in my class, who weara full-sleeved clothes and other conservative clothes, but she is known to "sleep around" and even has admitted it.

So my opinion, I just think clothing should not matter, no matter what century it is.

Look beyond the clothes and embrace the personality.😊

Well i agree with Javs... And 21st century has nothing to do with the way of dressing.. it is individual's choice.. But still every dress has got an appropriate place to wear.. models like malaika arora even can't wear a micro mini shorts on a butcher's shop (i don't know even if she goes there or not 😕😆)... But the point is that everyplace has got its own dressing code.. This is a general statement..

On a personal note.. i believe that personalities are judged by the way u dress... this is wht the society does all the time... Wht is the reality is hidden behind the clothes.. Surely we can't generalize all the women wearing full sleeved as being the "Good Girls" and all the sexy clothes carriers as "Loose character women".. But we can't ignore the perceptions of a society in this manner.. and we are actually talking abt that.. The concept of being "HOT and SEXY" has emerged in recent times ..where being associated with such prefix has become the matter of pride in these days... People can look hot and sexy in shalwar kameez and saries if altered in that perspective.. U see, Altering the clothes according to demand 😉

And not to forget... religion is deeply involved in the dressing code Be it Islam, Christianity, Judaism, Hinduism.. and again i say: Its the individual's choice wht she wishes to do... they may follow the religion codes or the society's dressing code..or a dressing code of their own... its THEIR choice... No imposition works here!!

You know, allthough we talk about women emancipation, relinquishment of the old superstitions and ridiculous protocols that were written for women etcetera etcetera, there are some basic differences between the biological structure of a man and a woman .....and what we are talking aout are age old beliefs.....some protocols that have been followed by our ancestors for thousands of years and veeering away from the norm isnt that easy....This is definitely going to sound greek to you😆, but In the temples of Kerala the southern parts Western Ghats( a ka mangalore, palghat etc) you men are invariably topless as its a rule that men have to remove their shirts before entering the temples.....but they dont ask a woman to shed her top because some norms just cannot be broken.... women's clothing, women's covering up etc are very sensitive issues in the part of the world where I live..........Its not a question of whether these norms are right or wrong, but they just CANNOT be broken so quickly........You might ask"What's wrong if I go to a temple in a mini skirt without not being started at.... Afterall, God sees our mind, our devotion and honesty, not what we wear"......that is right, but its a rhetoric question.....a topless man wouldnt be considered as an object of desire, but a topless woman would be! and that's because of the physical structure......that answers you question as to why only women are touted to be objects of desire

Definitely!!! But looks and the demeanour cast the first impression.....and at times, it becomes quite difficult to change the first impression😉...ofcourse, i'm not saying that hunches never happen to be right...but if i have a rather bad impression of a man, it would become really tough for me to go and talk to him....atleast here, exposing and revealing isnt thing an average person does...so an average not so hi-fi person would be intimidated by a girl donning a tube top and a mini skirt......that girl might be the sweetest thing on earth, but breaking the ice wouldnt be all that easy....clothes perhaps shoudl not matter( though I feel it matters), but the impression that clothing cast definitely do matter in this part of the world😊...Not everygirl is Malaika Arora....I suggest that Mrs.Malaika Arora, before speaking for everyone, must try venturing into a crowded suburb of mumbai, wearing a mini skirt.....Then she would know that she must not speak for everyone but must speak for herself....Its easy for her, to wear a mini skirt, get into her car, be chauffered to the poshest nightclub , or to the premiere of a movie or the grand party of a magnet.....then party all night and then de chauffered back to her home safely without being jibed or poked fun at.......but its not the same for a middle class girl to wear a mini skirt, step out of house into one of the narrowest and most crowded street full of vendors , panwalas, hooligans, walk safely to a bus stop, alight a bus, and then get down and walk to the collage.......even the scion of the Ambanis would be a 21st century girl, and the scion of the cobbler is also a 21st century girl....the former can wear or do anything under the sun and it wouldnt ruffle any feathers in her society, the latter cannot......malaika must realize that the indian society is divided into the stinking rich, the very rich, the rich, the not middle class, the upper middle class, the middle class, the lower middle class, the poor, the very poor and the terrible poor.....and everything, from the attitude, to the clothes, to the food is starkly different...girls belonging to all these categories are 21st century girls, but all are not the same😊

There is a girl in my class, who weara full-sleeved clothes and other conservative clothes, but she is known to "sleep around" and even has admitted it.

So my opinion, I just think clothing should not matter, no matter what century it is.

OMG.....i completely agree here...I had a classmate of mine who eloped with a guy(and here, eloping is a serious issue)..she was the most docile, most quiet girl.....and wasnt it a shock for us to hear that she, of all girls eloped😆...the usual troublemakers were hated by the teachers and were touted as spoilt kids of rich families only because we mocked at a teacher who so cooly said that the Theory of Relativity was a brainchild of Sir Issac Newton😆😆....these most quiet ones at times turn out to be the iron hand in the velvet glove....and the ones touted to be the troublemakers end up being the diamond in the rough😃

Look beyond the clothes and embrace the personality.😊

I knew this was coming😆😆😆..But I was talking in general....But John abraham is one of the only few of his ilk.......leave alone people of the tinsel town like John and malaika....because not all the people have a handsome/beautiful face and a great body..I was talking about the juxtaposition of an average, not so good looking ,far from perfect male and female😊

LoL😆😆😆 How could I forget my John😳 He was looking so damn sexxxxyyy!!😳😈

But nowadays, many men in the East and the West go to the gym or do some kind of excersices that make them fit. Ever go to the beach here or some parts of India, you will see many regular people with great bodies, both men and women alike.

Overall, if you know what clothes are appropriate for the temple/church/mosque/synagogue, and which clothes you can wear with your friends, to a party or a club, and what to wear around parents and house guests, then all is fine. A woman can wear a mini skirt or tube tops if she wears them to the right places.😊
