After a glitzy start, the Commonwealth Games (CWG) organisers now face a new challenge - that of getting viewers to watch the events. CWG Federation chief Mike Fennell, meanwhile, has voiced concerns about the thin attendance at the sporting venues. Why do you think the spectators are missing?

I think India has got a realistic chance of getting more than a minimum of 50 gold medals & 120 medals in all (silvers, bronzes included) at Delhi CWG 2010.

Going by the current trends, India should win 75% of its total gold medals from their 4 favorite disciplines - Shooting, Wrestling, Weightlifting, Boxing.

The breakup of the probable final gold medal tally for India would look like:

1. Shooting - 18 golds out of possible 36
2. Wrestling - 10 golds out of possible 21
3. Weightlifting - 7 golds out off possible 17
4. Boxing - 4 golds out of possible 10
5. Tennis - 3 golds out of possible 5
6. Table Tennis - 3 golds out of possible 8
7. Badminton - 4 golds out of possible 6
8. Archery - 3 golds out of possible 8

So, in total India should win atleast 52 gold medals in all.

In the major medal sports like Aquatics, Athletics, Cycling, Gymnastics which account for 145 gold medals out of total 271 gold medals available (more than 55%), Indians are unlikely to win any gold medals. Indian medal hopes & its probable surprises might be in Athletics events - Women's field events (discus, shortput) and women's 4X400 relay team.

We have developed our taste only for cricket. There is no mass interest in any other forms of sports Even football does not generate as much interest as cricket in India.

Another reason could be the tight security measures and possible threat for the games, who would like to take the trouble when if they are interested, they can anyway do the same via television.

Now , they have to hire people to fill the stands, just as they do for political rallies etc nowadays.

FIFA was quite a big hit, bigger than CWG, lol. Everybody was watching it..It's bad that India didn't get qualified, and I don't think they would either. But anyway, it was nice to see FIFA getting attention, something other than Cricket getting attention is pleasant to see.
I love Cricket too, but at the same time, it HAS killed the other sports in India.

The tickets were all sold out as per the sign posts displayed at the venue and yet the stands remained empty ! Cpomplimentary tickets never saw the light of the day, instead they were bagged by a kabadiwala (ragpicker) ! People had been waiting in long queues to obtain tickets for the games as there were too few counters , the on-line ticketing had developed snags !
And India is said to be the hub of IT sector ! Jai ho !

Did any one notice the missing reflectors from the underbelly of Aerostat the Helium balloon, they were very important in reflecting multi coloured lights back during opening ceremony.

Acc to HT, the guy over charged for the reflectors and he was fired in the middle, he was from Spain probably.

News like this makes me furious. Why PM, Sonia are ognoring Kalamati now? Nothing in Congress happens without blessing of 10 Janpath Road, Delhi.
And what will CBI and other aegncies investigate ,they act like government arm, no honesty/integrity.

Ideally a judicial enquiry should be initiated headed by a rtd CJ of SCI.
(Though they are also under serious charges of corruption)
