We have developed our taste only for cricket. There is no mass interest in any other forms of sports Even football does not generate as much interest as cricket in India.
Another reason could be the tight security measures and possible threat for the games, who would like to take the trouble when if they are interested, they can anyway do the same via television.
Now , they have to hire people to fill the stands, just as they do for political rallies etc nowadays.
The tickets were all sold out as per the sign posts displayed at the venue and yet the stands remained empty ! Cpomplimentary tickets never saw the light of the day, instead they were bagged by a kabadiwala (ragpicker) ! People had been waiting in long queues to obtain tickets for the games as there were too few counters , the on-line ticketing had developed snags !Originally posted by: Indradhanush
Not only this, Kalamadi held several tickets till last moment.
