Its a book by Thomas L. Friedman, i read it during my courses in International Business. It also helps international business leaders see beyond thier door step as well. Overall its interesting, but i think for most youngsters like myself, its a given...Nothing new, especially when we grew up in the age of technology and mass media...

But my question for you all...

Do you really think the world is flat?

I mean, are we closer to each other in the world than we were 30 years ago?

Do you think technology brings us closer together or not?

This doesnt have to be from a business point of view, there are so many aspects that effects countries, like soft or hard power, etc..

Not really, its OVAL LOLS... it appears to be flat but there so many constraints / hurdles that need to be crossed before we can actually say 'WORDL is FLAT'

If that means in terms of communication of thoughts / leveraging ideas all around then yes... but stil long way to go.

YES!

My question here will be - Is the Global community READY or in acceptance for this so called 'World is Flat' concept? I mean global..ok not jsut desi's ;) lols

Don't be surprised.

About 15 years ago a collegue of mine believed that the earth does not revolve around the sun as the Vatican believes-to date.

During Christmas, on a visit to death valley a tour guide asked "how many of you believe that the human race is the only race?" I raised my hand, keeping in mind what Carl Sagan said in his science serial. "Fool!" is what the scientist said. His logic was that humans have not even discovered 2% of all the technology there is to be found. I was the only one in the crowd of 50 that raised my hand.

Indeed, Carl Sagan had said that within 2 years(this was in 1984)we can develop a rocket that can circulate the universe based on the theory of light. Unfortunately that will never happen because of an agreement in the UN that nuclear testing cannot happen in space. And oh yes, based on that same speed of light theory, when the rocket returns back to earth 33 years later, our solar system would have turned to dust.

I mean, are we closer to each other in the world than we were 30 years ago?Yes, it is a no brainer

Do you think technology brings us closer together or not? depends on how you use the technology, The first 12-13 chapters of the book he goes on and on how it can bring us together, Last chapter, the most visible, he shows how it can drive us Apart

In every sense except geographical, We are seeing the world to be flat,

On a side note. Friedman is a great author. I look forward to his articles in the Times. Sometimes I agree with him, sometimes I think he is being too simplistic to complex issues. But he is a force to reckon with. He has a major input into the foreign policy decisions for America and a lot of congressmen listen to him.
