CHAPTER 14
The Sinhas, except for Suhasini, gathered in the leaving room. It was time to leave.
"Papa, Mom kahaan hai? Unhe itna time kyun lag raha hai? " Jai asked.
"Unki tabiyat theek hai na? " Abhay asked.
"Haan haan. Woh aati hi hogi. " Manohar answered.
"Aa gayi main. "Suhasini said smiling as she entered the room.
"Manohar aap Jai aur Jaya ke saath chale jaayiye. Main Abhay aur Adarsh ke saath aati hoon." She told her husband.
Everyone looked at her surprised. She always accompanied Manohar on such occasions.
"Kya hua Suhasini? Tum humare saath kyun nahin chal rahi ho? " Manohar asked her surprised.
"Kyunki I want to make sure ki yeh donon batak na jaaye." Suhasini said looking at Adarsh and Abhay and then added "Mera matlab hai ki main ensure karna chahti hoon ki yeh donon waqt pe pahunche. Varna koi kaam aa gaya toh yeh log dinner cancel kar denge. "
The brothers looked at her confused but remained silent. Soon they were on their way.
"Abhay, tum kaafi thake hue lag rahe ho. Lunch theek se nahin kiya? " she asked as Adarsh stopped the car at a signal.
"Nahin mom. Woh hum logon ne thoda junk food kha liya tha. "Abhay replied.
"Par Vanshika toh keh rahi thi ki Adarsh kisi meeting mein phas gaya tha. Tum donon kahaan the? " she asked.
Adarsh was done with lying.
"Mera ek dost stairs se ghir gayi thi. Bas uss se milne gaye the. "Adarsh told her.
Suhasini didn't ask any more questions. The rest of the journey was a silent one.
The Bundelas gave them a warm welcome. Vanshika looked away as Adarsh tried to talk her but lingered behind as the elders went in.
"I am sorry Vanshika. Bahut zaroori kaam tha. Kal hum donon pakka lunch pe jaayenge. I promise. "Adarsh said.
"Its ok Adarsh. Waise bhi ab kuch hi dinon ki baat hai. Uske baad toh main hamesha tumhare saath rehoongi. Koi excuse nahin chalega phir . " Vanshika said smiling .
They were all seated in the living room of the grand mansion engaged in casual conversation when a servant informed Mrs Bundela about someone having reached.
"Mujhe aap logon se ek baat karni hai. Humne aapse pooche bina ek step liya hai. Humne apni panditji ko bulaaya hai. Shaadi ki date fix karne ke liye. Hum Yash ke vacation khatam hone se pehle shaadi karna chahte hain. If you dont mind. " Mrs Bundela announced.
"Humein kya problem hogi? Hai na Suhasini? " Manohar asked happily.
Suhasini looked at Adarsh to see his reaction . She feared that he would object. But he remained silent. Adarsh was too surprised to react at all. What was to be done? It was almost an year since the engagement and there was no reason to postpone the wedding.
"Of course not. Accha hua aap logon ne panditji ko bula diya. "Suhasini replied.
She was looking at her other two sons. The brothers were close and if Adarsh was seeing Swadheenta they probably knew about it. Abhay was looking at Adarsh as if waiting for him to speak up. But that was nothing to worry about. This had been Abhay's reaction when the engagement had been announced too. Jai on other hand seemed disappointed and sad. But it was same as Abhay's case. Though she had no idea why the brothers weren't happy it didn't bother her much. It was probably just them worrying about Adarsh.
The panditji started his work. After a few minutes he said " Aaj se theek bees din baat bahot accha muharat hai. "
"Toh shaadi usi din kar lete hain. " Mr Bundela said happily.
"Bees din? "Abhay exclaimed and as everyone looked at him he added "Mera matlab hai time bahot kam hai na? "
"Koi problem nahin hai. Hum log ek saal se tayaaariyaan kar hi hi toh rahe hain. Sab ho jaayega. Hum sab hai na. " Mrs Bundela said excited.
" Of course "Suhasini replied.
"Actually Yash ke liye bhi kahin rishte aa rahe hain. Toh iss shaadi mein shaayad uski shaadi pakki ho jaaye. Aur main toh aapko bataana hi bhool gayi. Meri ek friend apni beti ke liye Abhay ke baare mein poochh rahi thi. "Mrs Bundela told Suhasini.
Abhay put down the glass of juice. His mom gave him a curt look and told Mrs Bundela "haan. Shaadi mein unse milenmilenge aur baat karenge. Iski bhi toh shaadi karni hai. "
Abhay looked shocked. This was the time she was giving him to move on? Too fast. He turned to see his brother who seemed totally lost.
The families engaged in discussing the details of the wedding. After some time they proceeded to dinner. As everyone was leaving the room Vanshika stopped Adarsh and Abhay.
"Abhay, meri aur Adarsh ki ek snap click karo na. Social media mein post karna hai. "Vanshika said looping her arm through Adarsh's. Adarsh looked dazed. He had just realised the gravity of the situation.
Abhay hesitantly took the phone from her and clicked photos . Adarsh felt miserable. As they sat down for dinner Vanshika asked her brother to move over so that she could sit next to Adarsh.
"Ab toh Adarsh ke paas hi betogi na? " Yash teased her.
Adarsh was growing increasingly uncomfortable. This was a huge mess. Vanshika was holding his hand. He felt suffocated. But he couldn't stop her. After all she was his fiancee. In 20 days she would be his wife, his life partner, his better half.
He looked around the table at his parents, her parents and his brother and bhabhi. Would they ever be this? Happy or atleast comfortable. He doubted it. He saw Jai looking distressed. Jaya was looking at Adarsh. She lookelooked worried too. Worried about him. He smiled at her and looked away.
It seemed like ages when they finally finished dinner. This was it. He couldn't go this any more.
"Mom. Meri tabiyat theek nahin hai. Ghar chalein? " he asked.
His mom glared at him. But Jaya cut in.
"I think we should leave. Itna zaara kaam hai. "
Everyone agreed. Soon they were on their way home. Suhasini had left with Manohar, Jai and Jaya leaving Abhay and Adarsh by themselves.
"Bhai, aapko kya lagta hai? Mom seriouslymeri shaadi abhi karaana chahti hai? "Abhay asked.
Adarsh knew he was only trying to make sure Adarsh was ok.
"Nahin yaar. Mom Aunty ko aise mana nahin kar sakti hai na. Isliye keh diya hoga. Par shaayad ladki acchi lagi toh woh shaadi kara degi. "Adarsh said with a wink.
"Toh Simmi mandap mein aakar mujhe goli maar degi. "Abhay said making a serious face.
"Aur shaadi nahin ki toh mom goli maar degi ."Adarsh teased .
"Yeh pyaar karna hi nahin chahiye tha . Life kitni uncomplicated thi. Hai na bhai? " Abhay asked solemnly.
"Sahi kaha Chottu ." Adarsh said.
The rest of the journey passed in silence. Abhay decided to confront Adarsh later that night. First his brother needed to get a grip on himself.

Jaya stood in the balcony thinking. Jai had left on someurgent work. Perhaps to meet the girl but something else bothered her right now. Adarsh.
She had noticed that something was amiss. But she had realised what it was only during the dinner. She had seen a particular suffocated look on Adarsh's face. She had seen the same look on another person's face on a similar location. If she had then understood what Jai was going through, she wouldn't be in this condition today. She wasn't going to let Adarsh and Vanshika and perhaps another person go through the same.
Adarsh was in love with someone else. But who? Swadheenta?
She had to talk to Abhay. He might know what was happening. She was on her way to Abhay's room when she collided with him in the way.
"Abhay, kahaan jaa rahe ho iss waqt? "She asked.
"Woh, Adarsh bhai lawn mein hai. Unke paas jaa raha tha. Aap soyi nahin? "Abhay asked.
"Nahin. Kuch baat karni hai tumse. Agar tum free ho. Its about Adarsh. " Jaya said.
Abhay looked at her confused. They went down to the hall.
"Abhay, kya Adarsh shaadi se khush hai? Or rather, is he in love with someosomeone? Sach bolo."Jaya asked.
Abhay sighed and answered "yes . Swadheenta. "
"Toh aaj chup kyun tha woh? " Jaya asked. Was it a rule among the brothers to stay silent in the most critical times?
"Kyunki bhai khud shaayad yej nahin jaante hai ya phir jaankar bhi andekha kar rahe hain. " Abhay replied.
"In that case we have to talk to him." She said rising from the sofa.
Abhay was surprised. Jaya never went against his mom. She was supporting Adarsh despite knowing the consequences. Jaya understood what he was thinking.
"Loveless marriages are horrible. " she said.
They both walked to the lawn where Adarsh was pacing to and fro worried.
"Bhai, humein aapse baat karni hai. "Abhay said.
Adarsh hadn't expected Jaya there.
"Adarsh, saaf saaaf dikh raha hai ki tum iss shaadi se khush nahin ho. Kya tum kisi aur se pyaar karte ho?" Jaya asked.
Adarsh didn't want to lie anymore. He seriously needed to talk to someone.
"Haan Bhabhi. I love Swadheenta. "He said.
"Toh aaj kuch kaha kyun nahin? " Abhay asked.
"Kyaa kahoon? Jis ladki se apni marzi se sagaayi ki use shaadi ki kuch din pehle bataaon ki main shaadi todna chahta hoon? Uski life barbaad karoon? Use takleef doon" Adarsh asked.
"Aur iss shaadi se khush rahegi woh? " Jayaasked.
"Adarsh, tum kisi aur se pyaar karte ho yeh jaankar Vanshika khush rahegi? Uski future shaayad secure hogi par khush nahin hogi woh. Aaj shaadi tooti toh uska dil tootega par waqt ke saath woh theek ho jaayegi. Koi aur mil jaayega use. Lekin shaadi ke baat use pata chala toh rishta tootega. Divorce hogi. Use aur takleef hogi. " she explained.
Adarsh looked confused.
"I don't know if Swadheenta loves me." He said.
"Bhai, aap andhe ho? Aapko nahin pata woh aapse pyaar karti hai? "Abhay asked impatiently.
"Par aaj usne kuch kaha kyun nahin? " Adarsh asked.
"Wah. Kaha nahin. Par apne dekha nahin uske aasoon. Bechari ka dil toot gaya yeh jaankar ki aap shaadi kar rahe ho. Aur aapko doubt hai. "Abhay said irritated.
Adarsh looked at the both of them. They were right. He would do the right thing. No matter what the consequences . He walked towards his car.
"Kahaan jaa rahe ho bhai? " Abhay asked worried.
"Swadheenta se milne. " he said smiling .
