Hi everyone!
I have been using India Forums since 2021. I'm primarily a lurker. I've made a few very good friends here and am part of some very supportive communities, though I cannot be as active as I'd like to be. I know I'm completely new to this forum, but I have been an avid CID watcher since 2011. I'd like to add a comment here today about something that has been on my mind for a long time (long rant incoming). I'm NOT bashing the actors -- they have been a huge part of my life and I have nothing but love and respect for them. These are my opinions on the characters.
1. ACP Sir and Daya are extremely toxic towards Abhijeet. I don't understand how Daya, who claims to be Abhijeet's best friend and his brother-in-arms, is so quick to raise very offensive, hurtful questions about Abhijeet's mental acumen. In an earlier episode titled 'Senior Inspector Abhijeet', Daya's then-girlfriend accused Abhijeet of having killed her brother years back. Daya later asked Abhijeet in an extremely skeptical tone as to whether Abhijeet's memory loss is genuine (and Daya is arguable the closest witness of what Abhijeet went through after he lost his memory) and whether he was simply pretending to have forgotten his past so he could claim he hadn't killed Daya's girlfriend's brother. In the recent tracks, after ACP Sir's supposed death, his FIRST instinct was to suspect his lifelong friend and to conspire against him with ACP Ayushman. It was freaking Pankaj who defended Abhijeet then.
ACP Sir also is extremely quick to blame and penalize Abhijeet whenever anything goes wrong. The vitriol directed towards Abhijeet whenever he's been suspected of anything is disguised under labels like impartiality and discipline, yet the same ACP Pradyuman is extremely protective of Daya. I'd argue that any time Daya is in danger/ missing/ under suspicion, ACP Sir loses his cool, then begins to drag Abhijeet's name through the mud, but when it is Abhijeet in need of help, they aren't so quick to rise to his defence.
2. If Abhijeet's memory loss (and now the split personality business) is considered a hindrance, why was he allowed to rejoin CID at all? Wouldn't it have been kinder to let him go instead of throwing his injuries and his disability (because permanent memory loss IS a disability) in his face time and again? It was ACP Pradyuman who gently encouraged Abhijeet to rejoin CID in 'The Case of the Stolen Dynamite', but given the way they treat Abhijeet whenever he is in a vulnerable position, it feels like they brought him back not as a decorated officer who made sacrifices in the line of duty but as a scapegoat and a punching back.
3. I was under the impression that the axiom 'innocent until proven guilty' applies to every Indian citizen. Are CID officers exempt from it? The only time I recall ACP Pradyuman actually doing something to get Abhijeet out of his predicament was hiring KD Pathak to fight for him in 'Adaalat', season 1 episode 3.
4. Both Daya and Abhijeet are fond of parroting that ACP Pradyuman taught them that duty supersedes all relations and emotions. Abhijeet is guilty of violating this to some extent (for example, he'd go against orders and jump in to help Daya), but what on earth is up with Daya and his selective amnesia where this is concerned? He had no problems suspecting and interrogating (very roughly, I might add) Abhijeet, Purvi and Pankaj, but he seems to blindly trust Shreya and keep her above all suspicion. Shreya does not seem to hold the same regard for Daya. Even in season 1 Daya-Shreya felt like a very one-sided relationship.
4. I deeply admire ACP Pradyuman's character for putting duty and justice above the life of even his own son. But that does NOT give him the right to act holier-than-thou and arrogant with his officers when they do not act the way he likes. I remember he blamed Abhijeet for leaving Daya in the sinking submarine in season 1, as if Daya is a child with no agency of his own. and He is a strict leader , yes, and perhaps a very good leader, but I don't think he is a fair one at all.
5. Abhijeet, Pankaj and Purvi deserve a better team. A more compassionate one where bullying and bossy behaviour do not pass for professionalism. I know it isn't going to happen, but I'd really like an arc in the show where Abhijeet looks for a transfer to a different department and actually goes through with it; working with his new team, he begins to realise that his admiration and his love for his former team had blinded him to the areas where they could do with improvement.
These are simply my opinions. They aren't as well-written as I'd like because I've had a long day, but I just wanted to get them off my chest.
