I remember Daya confronting Pankaj in one episode saying something like -- 'you're suddenly getting a lot of international calls, who's calling you?' If he suspected Pankaj was with Barbosa, why on earth would he say something like that and put Pankaj on his guard? Wouldn't it be more prudent to wait until there was more proof? And Daya went and did a background check on Purvi and found the Eye Gang had sent her a mail which she did not disclose, but he wasn't able to discern from her call list she was in touch with DIG Pratap? Abhijeet went about the investigation in a much better manner. And Abhijeet kept an open mind doing it. He never jumped to accusing people left, right and centre like Daya did.
You said Daya was right to suspect Abhijeet because Abhijeet was acting suspiciously. He's known Abhijeet for 20 years. They have seen each other at their best and their worst. His immediate impulse is to think Abhijeet is involved with Barbosa? If so, then Abhijeet is a far better friend and a better judge of character: he's standing by Daya despite SOS's very justified and very warranted suspicion of Daya as a serial killer.
He shouldn't have approached Pankaj so roughly but maybe he wanted to give him a chance to explain himself . It'd not be easy for Daya as well to suspect people he daily works with and spends most of his time with. He probably thought Pankaj could give them a rational explanation to give him clean chit. He's always been a bit hot headed and his approach was often direct in season 1 as well. No one's denying that.
Purvi must've been careful enough to make detection difficult. She's also a cop and so is DIG Pratap. They know how to hide their foot marks if necessary.
I don't like it when Abhijeet and Daya works against each other anymore than other viewers. They work best when they're working together as a dynamic duo. But Daya had to investigate everyone the same. Or else , it'd be like why not trust Purvi , Pankaj and Sachin too , he knows them since a long time as well.
if he can not trust all of them , next best thing is , trust none of them. Atleast, no one can say he's being partial or biased towards one of them.
Atp, anyone he'd suspect was already his friend and colleague. Then , he might not even investigate at all. Even Dr. Salunkhe was a very old member of the og team. He's also a long time friend of ACP Pradyumn. I still think there's more to the story about his betrayal. Maybe his niece is involved .
He shouldn't have doubted Abhijeet but he's just lost his father figure . We can't expect him to always act rationally.
ACP Pradyuman also has zero issues believing Daya is acting for the greater good here. He would not have been so lenient had it been Abhijeet or any other team member. As I said earlier, he has a soft spot for Daya that he lacks to a large extent for the others.
Abhijeet has an unfortunate past which makes him uniquely vulnerable to being molded into a " Winter soldier " so to speak. He initially tried to dissuade himself that he shouldn't doubt Abhijeet. But the cop in him overpowered the friend in him.
You've seen CID season 1. Is there anyone in the team who has ever stood up for Abhijeet and loved and cherished him more than Daya ? Honest answer.
I do agree with you that I still cannot believe Dr Salunkhe was the traitor or that he acted alone if he was. The entire revelation felt very unconvincing.
