CID Written Update: Double Murder (30th October, 2015)

Scene 1

We see a couple Dinesh and Urmila walking on a desolate road in a forested area, their bike having broken down. They spot the corpses of a man and woman in the undergrowth and after some debate, decide to call the CID.

Scene 2

Our CID team comprising of Daya sir, Purvi di, Shreya and Pankaj arrives and checks the bodies. The male victim is seen to have been fatally shot at close range. Daya sir construes he was shot elsewhere as there are no traces of blood nearby, so the body must've been dragged here after the killing. They also notice injuries on his head and elbow. The female victim has been shot as well. From their ID cards, they're identified as Akhil and Barkha, and seem to be a couple. Dinesh and Urmila remember having encountered these two sometime before - when their bike broke down, they stopped these two would-be victims' car and asked for a lift, but the latter seemed to be tense and in a haste, and rudely refused and drove away.

The cops wonder why they were in such a hurry, and where their car is. Pankaj finds the car in the woods and Dinesh and Urmila identify it as the victims' vehicle. Daya sir asks for the bodies to be sent off to the forensic lab. They check the car and Purvi di finds fingerprints on the steering wheel and window. Shreya finds bloodstains in the trunk. Daya sir says it can't be the victims' blood since they were killed only a short while ago, whereas this blood is dried. There's no other body nearby. Daya sir says they need to visit the victims' home to find out more.

Scene 3

The same team arrives at the victims' house and nobody answers the door. A neighbour lady comes there demanding who they are, and on hearing about Akhil and Barkha's murders, starts crying saying she'll miss the rations they used to generously donate to her. Daya sir tells her off for being selfish and asks if she saw anybody else in their house. The lady remembers that once when she entered the house to ask for something, she found it empty and on entering through a partly opened door which usually she always found closed, she saw the ominous shadow of a man inside and ran out scared, and then Barkha explained that it's her mentally ill brother they keep locked up in that room. They break into the house and the lady shows them which room it is. Daya sir notices a faint trail of bloody drag marks leading into that room. The room is found vacant and Shreya finds more blood marks under a table. Daya sir construes that the person who bled here is either Barkha's brother, or someone else the two victims attacked there, or a third killer who struck someone there. He decides to examine Barkha and Akhil's call records.

Scene 4

The team tracks down the house of one Sandhya, whose records show that she had been in daily phone contact with Akhil. She claims not to know Akhil and gets nervous when exposed. Her father comes there and on hearing that she's been phoning some guy, starts getting violent with her. Purvi di stops him angrily and asks Sandhya to tell the truth. Both father and daughter claim not to know Akhil and demand the cops to leave. However, they are utterly shocked on hearing about his death and Sandhya finally reveals that Akhil was her brother. She says Barkha bewitched him into her trap of love and though their father was against it, Akhil was adamant and finally left the house. Sandhya couldn't live without him and thus used to phone him. She blames Barkha of the murder and says Akhil often mentioned her dangerous nature. Daya sir wonders who killed Barkha in that case.

Scene 5

ACP sir, Freddy sir, Sachin sir, Purvi di and Nikhil enter the forensic lab and Salunkhe sir informs them that there were 3 sets of fingerprints in the car. ACP sir says 2 of them must've belonged to the victims, and one possibly to the killer. Salunkhe sir adds that this third set of prints was found on the driver's door and steering wheel, and ACP sir says the killer must've left them while disposing of the bodies. Salunkhe sir also mentions that the person who had bled in Barkha's house was probably a target since at least 6-7 months, since there's a high amount of arsenic in his blood and this was the same blood found in the car trunk. Purvi di wonders whether Akhil and Barkha murdered the latter's brother Anand and took away his body. She gets a phone call informing that a bleeding sack has been discovered near the original murder spot.

Scene 6

Our duo, Purvi di, Shreya and Pankaj arrive arrive at the aforementioned spot and find a man's corpse in the sack. He's been strangled a short while ago. Purvi di remarks that the three murders, Anand's disappearance and the blood in the car trunk are certainly interconnected. Daya sir wonders if this new victim is Anand, and asks for the body to be sent to the lab for a DNA test and Abhijeet sir asks Pankaj to see if this guy had been reported as missing.

Scene 7

In the lab, Dr. Salunkhe informs the team that the new victim is indeed Anand and his blood matches with the samples from Barkha's house. ACP sir wonders why he was strangled when the killer had already been poisoning him with arsenic.

Scene 8

The team meets Anand's mother Shalini who cries for her son in the bureau. She blames Barkha for his murder and says she wasn't his sister but wife, and her real name was Nupur. She's shocked to learn about her murder and says that after their marriage, Anand had started being ill and one day Nupur took him to the doctor for treatment, and returned alone claiming that he had run away. ACP sir wonders why she did all this, and lied about Akhil being her husband and Anand her brother. Freddy sir comes in with the news that the third set of fingerprints belong to one drug dealer Ranjan who's been recently released from the jail.

Scene 9

ACP sir, Purvi di and Nikhil visit Ranjan's house and his wife greets them saying that Ranjan is ill and asleep. The cops see through her lies and forcefully enter the house to find Ranjan faking sleep, his clothes wet and clearly indicating he had gone out the previous night. They seize and take him away.

Scene 10

In the bureau, Ranjan confesses that he'd been paid by a woman to murder Akhil and Barkha. ACP sir orders him to call up this woman and call her to meet him, and threaten to divulge everything to the CID unless she pays him higher.

Scene 11

We see our team hiding in the woods while Ranjan waits for the lady to arrive. She arrives by auto and we see that it's none other than Sandhya. They have a bitter conversation and Sandhya tries to stab Ranjan for trying to betray her. The CID team captures her and takes both of them into custody.

Scene 12

After interrogation, Sandhya confesses that she killed Akhil. She reveals that he was, in fact, her parents' adopted son and he backstabbed them and usurped all their property in order to please Barkha. She found out via Akhil that Barkha had been slowly poisoning her brother Anand and when it didn't work, they strangled him to death. ACP sir condemns her deeds and says she'll likely be executed for the same.
