Everybody in this show lost the most important part of themselves in the five years.....excepting for one character........and that is Devkiji. The most important part of her life was not her adopted daughter nor her birth daughter, it was Shastriji and she always had him with her. So the lead I think was Devkiji.

Very interesting. Everyone's character changed in the show. Hers changed too, but hers was the only character that moved from grey towards a kind mother persona. She was always shown to save her skin at the expense of Radhika. Even during Ksma vrat, she stopped Radhika from revealing the truth by emotionally blackmailing her about Shastriji (her husband) without caring that Radhika's husband could die from this unnecessary punishment. I remember several wrote about this point at that time. but, then they changed her to this benevolent mother who was just ineffective in front of her tyrant mother in law, but had loved Radhika a lot. So while the characters of rest were destroyed including amma (who was not as dark as portrayed since the burning bangles) and Vishaka (who was not a prostitute even though her morals were questionable) to Dev, Radhika, Shastriji and Dadi. But, Devki's character was enhanced.
So, from that logic and your logic, it is true that Devki was the lead. Good hypothesis and good way of proving it.

Misti,
I really liked this interview as it was totally related to his feelings about CB and soaps in general. It seemed quite clear from the article that his views were consistent with what forum viewers have been writing for last 1 month.
1. The show was having a good TRP and yet it got closed without any warning to even actors.
2. The male role in soaps is just limited to one or two dimensional. Avinash became so popular as he played Dev very well. Dev was etched so much better than seen in other soaps. He was more normal as opposed to stupidily sacrificing. Also, there was an independence in that character which you don't see. It became one dimensional from 2010 onwards until it got completely destroyed.
3. A soap not only needs to have a better story, but needs to stick with the original theme. As you pointed out in one of the threads, PR is not good as leads are too unrealistic, but it is consistent and involves all the side characters in the story. CB stopped doing that in the second season.
In any case, I feel that Avinash is a good actor especially his voice modulation. During that Malaysia HM track, they show Radhika waking him up after their SR. His voice was very husky indicating that he just woke up. Same thing with Haridwar scene. His expressions of surprise, disbelief, amazement followed by angry comprehension and then finally feeling extremely sad and disappointed that the girl he loved so intensely decieved him so badly. If he was given proper material during Abhay track especially in July and August, he could have done wonders for the show.

Angie I remember during the kshma vrat time loads of people had written about this.....that Devki is protecting her own husband but emotionally blackmailing Radhika from protecting her husband. She would have done that during the time when the wedding truth came out but she was put in a difficult siuation by shastriji and his quest for the truth.......so he chose Shastriji over Vishaka, and choosing Shatsriji meant choosing Radhika. Amma was actually brought down drastically during the burning incident. Before the bride burning happened I used to get angry whenever I used to see amma on the screen but after that incident and the boils, cows and snakes encounter of amma , she became a carricature for me. If only they had kept her as the manipulator and not shown all these illogical stuff. So everyone was brought down excepting for Devkiji.

Angie what was happening with CB is open for everyone to see.....We all saw it and commented on it. It is sad that the actors were not given any prior warning. Infact they were told of the 6 months extension....which we even got confirmed from Zee UK but then abdruptly the show was stopped.
The show still had stories to tell...they needed a good creative team consisting of people who had imagination and could translate that into words and dialogues....who could write a screenplay based on a straight line and not circles. Screenplay is the backbone of any drama and if the backbone is not strong, the drama will crumble....thats what happened in CB.They also needed a good director who could translate the word and dialogues into scenes and help the actors in projecting the writers thoughts as emotions. The actors were already there, what was lacking was the beginning and the middle. They also needed a good editor who would then have put ogether all the scenes as beads are put together to form a necklace......here the necklace would have been the episodes of CB.
The original theme is the part that attracts the viewers to the story and they usually watch it keeping that in mind......so any deviation from that will confuse the viewers and people will loose interest. Here I think one of the problems was Kanha.....they have shown Kanha coming and saving Radhika from every small accident.......then why won't he save her from the big one? If Kanha has told her he will never take away Dev from her then why will Dev die? If Kanha has put her through all these just to test her...is God really so cruel? Is Kanha the inner subscious or the actual physical God himself? To me he was subsonscious and that helped me explain much of the story to myself but if he is the actual one then I all these questions prop up. If this is a spiritual love story and is based on ehsas.....then although Dev as Abhay has lost his memory his ehsaas should not be lost......the list is endless.
Now the acting part.......Dev was a very strong and independent man........he had enough self confidence in him to face the world for his beliefs and stand up for what is right. The only time I think I saw him faltering was during the Rajpurohit pooja where he succumbed tosociety and requested Radhika to sit in place of Vishaka. Having said all this Dev was not perfect...he too had his flaws and instead of exploring thse flaws they went for cheap gimmicks. Avinash did a very good job as Dev. His voice modulaton is usually to the mark......his expressions are very good and he has very expressive eyes. Thats why most of the time words were not needed to project his emotoins. When Abhay was first introduced , my first thught was that that atlast a complex male characters wih loads of layers to peel. ......but alas it ended up as a character with no layers and Avinash was robbed off a very good chance to potray a much more difficult character than Dev......I like grey characters.........I also like complex characters, because they are much more interesting and they usually have more facets to explore...........thats why Radhika was my favourite.....as a character her very complex nature interested and attracted me.

Misti and angie, I agree with your analysis. Yes, it sounds like Devki's charactor all those phases, and only her charactor had that phase, rest everybody got drastically spoiled by the CV's.. thanks...
