Change of Hearts part 3

Chhanchhan went home and grumpily stared at the TV screen until a little soft and cuddly creature came up and licked her face. An instant smile formed on her face and she immediately took her loving dog in her lap. "Puch puch! I wish you could go to school with me. Maybe giving Manav a little punishment would do him well."

She frowned not having her family around. Everyone had gone to visit a family friend for some days in Delhi. Chhanchhan was all alone; at least until Simple came over.

Her door bell rang and she quickly got up to open the door. "Simple you don't know what that kadoos--" Her eyes widened when she saw Manav standing at her door staring down at her angrily for calling him a kadoos.

"What are you doing here?" She asked with attitude.

"I came to say hi to your mom." Manav said and pushed her out of the way as he went in.

"Manav! You can't come in! And my mother isn't home so just leave!" CC was actually getting very irritated as she watched him look at the family photos on the wall.

"Manav!" She yelled and he finally gave her his attention. He walked back towards her and stood only some inches away but she made distance between them. "Get out," she said sternly.

"Your mother wouldn't be happy if she knew you treated me this way." He said, tilting his head to one side.

"My mom isn't here. And nor is she your babysitter anymore so stop acting like a child! You're not a child anymore!" Her voice was starting to escalate. Her memories were running wild. He needed to leave right away.

Manav took a few strides to her and held the tops of her arms before she shrugged them off. "Relax. Remember the good old days when we were friends?"

CC scrunched her eyes at him. "You said it yourself Manav, the good old days, NOT NOW!"

Manav chuckled and picked up an apple from the dining table before he left the house. CC slammed the door behind him and tried to calm down her anger. She went to the kitchen and watched as he walked away. "You stupid..." she said and couldn't help but let her memories take over.

There was a time when CC and Manav were friends. They were young kids and the only reason why they were somewhat friends was because he'd come by everyday while CC's mother babysat him until his own mother picked him up.

Then they grew and Manav turned into a wild beast while CC lost all interest in him, even as a human being. But suddenly he was trying to befriend her again, that too in a very annoying way.

CC's thoughts were cut short when she heard Simple calling out her name as she walked in the house. She caught up with her in the living room and found her with a bag of stuff.

"What's this?" CC asked.

"Chips, ice-cream, candy, and many movie options. I refuse to do any work tonight. This is my day off."

"Just like every other day," CC said and Simple turned red with embarrassment but laughed shrugging her shoulders.

"Get in groups. Learn the scene then enact it." The teacher demanded and numbered off the class as they were studying Hamlet.

CC was a two and got up to go to the rest of the students with the same number. They all found a spot they could practice at the back of the classroom. Everything was going smoothly until she felt a tap on she shoulder. She turned to find Manav meekly smiling down at her.

"Who are you?" He asked. Chhanchhan furrowed her eyebrows at him. "What do you mean?"

"You're character, Chhanchun!" He said pointing to the play in his hand.

"The Queen," she replied.

"Good, I'll be the King," he said as he set his bag down and sat on a desk next to which Chhanchhan was standing to. She moved away when their arms brushed against one another.

CC went through her lines flawlessly while Manav was having a hard time trying to speak Shakespearean English. Chhanchhan would accidently let a smile show at times when he was acting funny but as soon as his eyes lifted to her, she'd look away.

"Wow the king is one jerk but you," he said wagging his index finger at her disapprovingly, "You married your brother-in-law in just less than two months. Aren't you ashamed of yourself?"

"Seriously Manav grow up. We have to present this to the class." She brought the book up to her face to read it but it was suddenly whipped away. "Vaise, you act like your so smart anyways, haven't you memorized it by now?"

Chhanchhan glared at him. "Give it back!" She tried to reach around his back but he wouldn't give it. He finally let it hang between two fingers in the air as he put his arm up.

CC had to practically climb up his arm and grab it from him. Her eyes met his at one moment and it wasn't the eye contact that was so crazy for her rather than how close she was to him.

Just a couple centimeters closer and she could probably feel his breath on her. She didn't waste time fantasizing though. She finally grabbed it from him and moved to the other side of the circle while he often looked at her with a smirk on his face.

"Manav, prepare to die." She threatened in her mind.
