People vote the way they do for various reasons.
When people see their house on fire and the choice is between a bigoted fellow who promises to put out the fire and the incompetent dude who started the fire in the first place, the winner is almost always going to be the bigot.
I lived in India for many years and in the U.S. for many. I saw the same in both places. Congress and its allies nearly destroyed India with their leftist policies. BJP promised a diff direction. Democrats in the U.S. talk a good game, but they want the same socialism that has been proved destructive the world over. You think voters don't realize Trump is a misogynistic little you-know-what? But there was really no other option.
Can't speak for Nazi Germany from personal perspective, but history texts will tell you it was the same.
That hardly means the population is bigoted.
Generalizing a country of 1.2 BILLION people because you're a fan of one man will just put off others who might otherwise be supporters. They will just tell you no one has to worship at the altar of the celeb in question, not the public, not his social circle, not even his own family.
The average Indian has a sense of justice. They can see the wrongness of what's happening. Hence, the shift in narrative. I hope that forces the corrupt people behind this to stop.
In reality people don’t care. Especially the educated classes. Things like inter marriage may be an issue and parents do oppose.. but otherwise most don’t care. My first cousin also married a Muslim girl, had to fight parents for 3 years though 😆
The same Indians who are 80% Hindus still love the Khans and they have ruled the industry for 3 decades now. There are some places/ states that are castiest or are sensitive to communal violence. And it’s from both sides.
Infact, my Muslim friends have had more issues in the west. My bestfriend (raised in Oman but an Indian from Mumbai) had a horrible experience in German exchange program, she stayed with the host family for few days and had to move to dorm when they made not so pleasing remarks on her religion and insulted her.
I have had Muslim friends who have had terrible experiences in countries like US. One of my closest friends’ brother was
My family is originally from Pakistan Punjab side and we migrated when India was partitioned. My great grandmother said that the place where we lived, we were really rich (Sargodha) and in that area most lands etc were owned by upper caste Hindus. Muslims were lower caste (I think she was referring to the ones that were actually lower caste Hindu converts - can’t really clarify as she’s no more & my grandmother was young and doesn’t remember too much). She would say acha hua alag ho gaye because of how they were treated. The same situation can be reversed religion wise in other areas. There are some places where Muslim families are more privelged (even Saif Ali Khan’s ancestors were given the title Nawab and as they had helped the British in some way). Though I’m not exactly very sure of the details but it’s how they practiced their policy of divide and rule post the revolt of 1857.
.There was a Muslim family who helped some of our relatives escape violence ensuring their safety when they reached.
When anti-Sikh riots broke out. My family tells me that in Mumbai people didn’t let anyone in our society. They said no one can harm our Sikh brothers and we won’t let them touch anyone.
My Nana was travelling, and he along with some others hid some Sikhs who were being attacked
