That’s really great to know you got the slot for your vaccine dose Maya. I know many friends are still scrambling for it, and they are standing in long lines from early morning. Here in UK they have now decided to give a replacement to AstraZeneca for under 40s. Overall they’ve managed to transition smoothly from lockdown to opening up everything because of their relatively fast vaccine rollout. So hopefully this trend continues.
My province decided to delay the second dose by 4 months and use the second dose supplies as first dose to cover many ppl as possible at least with one dose. Although the two doses are required in a 3 week delay for a maximum effectiveness, they decided a good percentage of effectiveness for most number of ppl is better than none. The appointments were opened by category of age group and healthcare workers had the priority. After some time they gave priority to some profession( school teachers, essential workers). This month finally it will be open to 18 and above for the first dose. When we get our first dose they schedule right away the second dose appointment in a 4 month time. It’s because of the systematic way that I was able to get an appointment. The rollout of the vaccine hasn’t been as effective everywhere due to many factors...lack of supplies...hesitancy...rollout management . The only way we can go back to a normal life is by getting vaccinated at this point.
Hope all countries will get enough supplies. Today I watched Vax live concert....a concert asking world leaders to step to make sure vaccines are available everywhere. South Africa administered only 10 000 doses ( a population of around 60 million)....while US has administered last week 15 million doses....sad truth.
