Genie: I loved what you said about rama and krishna and draupadi
Will write details tomorrow about Vyas and his narration.

Short form: From what I read of CE and other references, vyas put himself in the story to be a part of it, but he was never too inclined to any one team.
However he was a social reformer, and krishna was his ally in it, so he might have backed causes of pandavas a tad too much

but that does not mean he did not show Duri as a benevolent king and a good diplomat( he managed 9 out of 11 akshauhini on his merit of contact and diplomatic relations only, 1 came from krishna and 1 from shalya as a result of yet another diplomatic coup by him.)
The most important the struggles of Karna.
has there been any story/epic/ narration where there has been such a flawed yet perfect man?

Also each of the pandavas have their own unique significance
And Vyas was so impartial, he did not even leave his own mother and her manipulations, schemes alone.

My favorite show of all times-- SCANDAL!!
LOVE, love OPA and the way KW plays OP and the things that Jeff perry's character does and what he does in his job; the way Tony Goldwyn plays POTUS; and Scott Foley, Ahhh the trauma in hsi eyes and the way he does what he does just so OP would love him back.

I cannot believe that the same person makes Greys rather mellow and KILLS it with Scandal.
Shonda Rhimes--bow down!!!

+++++++++++++

Karan? Perfect??Ahhh i beg to differ--flawed to the core!!
my opinion re him does not match Tannie's AT ALL and if there are any oversensitive Karan fans please let me know so we do not clash😆
for me perfect = D's favoritest arya❤️
+++++++++++

LOL finally this thread is NEARING completion--Oh Indigo and Genie--you two rock.
I was getting SICK of the stagnating of this thread

To Indigo and Genie,

HIII!!!!!!!!!!

Me, myself and I am Payali. Lovely to meet you! Checking in from the Land Down Under 😃

It's great to see more people on the thread. The last few pages have been amaaazziinggg! So great to read such deep and insightful posts 👏 Hopefully will be able to match the calibre of your thoughts whenever I get around to posting my opinions 😳

As for my interests...they are quite widespread. I love American and British shows but haven't kept up in the last few months. Mainly because I like marathoning through shows. Stupid daily desi soaps have ruined my ability to wait patiently for weekly episodes.

Currently have one of my all-time favourite shows playing in the background -> Firefly. Shiny!

Eeep Boston Legal! My brother got me hooked on the episodes and we used to watch them together. Alan, Denny and their cigars! Their courtroom antics and the end of episode discussions were a highlight. Plus the bromance!!!

The other characters as well were a treat. Shirlely Schmidt!

While I like watching a variety of shows, I'm not a loyal follower of any. With the exception of Doctor Who, Sherlock, Teen Wolf and shows that have ended like Firefly, Chuck, earlier seasons of HIMYM, Friends, Charmed. There's others but not easily recalled at the moment.

Shows I watch less frequently but still keep up to date with -> The Good Wife, Arrow, The Vampire Diaries, The Originals, Game of Thrones.

I only watch Mahabharat and Rangrasiya daily but check in on other shows depending on the tracks. Super excited for Jhalak this year! Only reality show I watch.

For films...some Bollywood, some Hollywood. Aim to watch every Studio Ghibli movie ever. One day, fingers crossed. Animated movies and television shows are a favourite too. The Lion King and KKHH are my all-time favourite movies.

Regarding OUAT, I watched the first season and half of the second season quite avidly but from then on have been a bit infrequent. Too many curses for my taste 😆 Partial to the villains and will confess my favourite pair of characters being #SnowQueen

As for actor crushes...my favourites are all the British 😳 Cumberbatch, McAvoy, Fassbender, Hiddleston. Oh and Jennifer Lawrence. I would totally want her as a best friend!

Haven't been reading in a while, asli duniya and TV is slowly degrading my IQ, but I'm more into the classics as well as fantasy fiction, that is, dragons and quests!

And of yeah...in case you hadn't realized by now...I LOVE gifs...and writing ridiculously long posts when given the opportunity 😆

Happy reading!!

barging in -- invited by Tanni :)
so i was wondering how Amish will go forth with mahabharat retelling -- i mean immortals of meluha was set in a period almost 2000 years after Krishna and mahabharat era so?

i mean it is weird that he already went with meluha and harappa and now he will do what? from where will he bring cities that existed before the indus valley civilization?

Nah medha u got it wrong.
Meluha was the name of Indus valley civilization around 4000 ur back. A history scholar told me.
Mb is a bit later, written over a period of 1000 yrs approx.
That aside, amish has already prepared seeds. The avatar before wss ram and rudra for shiv. Then there wss vayuputra tribe by rudra and vasudev by ram. When time comes, one of vssudeva will arise as nezt vishnu, one od vayuputra will assist him
Ganesh lived too long to see brothers fighting, war ThT eradicated an entire civilization.

Yes! the ending of Oath of the vayuputras talks of how "One day if the lord Neelkanth wills, the story of that great war will also be told."
The vasudevas, the priests, i felt were all avatars waiting for their time.
Let's see how Amish takes it.

Also just like it is said Krishna always knew Duri's heart and that 1) he would never choose Narayan without shastra but choose Narayani sena 2) He would neevr accept peace proposal BUT also way back when 1)He would be JEALOUS of IP and Maya Sabha and thus would begin the Pandavas humiliation that would lead to the earth being cleansed of the demonic Duri

I find it funny that people imagine God in human form but always have such simple black and white reactions to him: either dismissing him as superstition or idolizing him to a point where any alternative interpretation is blasphemy. They never attenpt to understand his complexity, his various forms. That God cannot always be perfect because the world he has created is so imperfect. All avatars of Vishnu are so different..surely shows he had a different purpose each time, maybe to fix what other avatars couldn't.
This made me so happy. Finally a voice which re-echos what I always believed, in the need to control and to subvert generations , translations have idolized Ram and Krishna even beyond black adn white. They both were fascinatingly flawed and aberrations to their ecosystems.Like Ram was born in this perfect ordered world ,where he was meant to be the "Purushottam" - the one who always does the "right", the balance he strikes as the King and the husband is intriguing. He silently defied the system in his way . I always wonder if by placing the Sita idol during the Yagna , he mocked the society builders - that irrespective of their opinion , even Sita's reflection will be perfect to sit with a King as his rightly Queen. He is made bland and too emotion-less in translations- perhaps silencing the anguish he faced while wearing the crown of just. I wonder, if even Rama wanted anyone to live the way he led his life, chained by the responsibilities and suffocated by his personal aspirations?

Krishna was the anti-dote of everything Ram.

I view Vishnu's avtaar's as a way to remind everyone that no system can ever be ideal . Every time an avtaar can to a "yog" or as I prefer to call them "ecosystem", they tried emphasizing the bad in the order. They brought out the realness of humans. They tried indicating that flaws can be good too and to say that there can never be an ideal system.

I

Genie what you say about Vishnu avatar is what dr P also says in his books and app is said in a few scriptures.
notice he always arrives at significant juncture of time.
Ram, krishna or Balaram Avatar and Krishna purna swarup, Buddha, all arrive at a time when society had to undergo a much needed upheaval and change from status quo.

As for Ram being made bland later, totally agree.
I think Ram is one of the most complicated characters ever written. Krishna atleast had, screw you all, I am the lord air, Ram was more human. And it was impossible for later poets, or pillars of society to understand how one can go through so much personal pain for the sake of principles: I don't think anyone was able to fathom the terrible burden of expectation to be ever just, ever right, to follow his system by living his life as an example. SO they made him an emotionless, emblem of duty and righteousness who was devoid of any emotion.

Although I am team krisna ( impossible not to be on his team), Ram has been a real revelation to me after I grew up.
