Catelyn arrests Tyrion because Littlefinger makes her believe it was Tyrion who sent the assassin. It has nothing to do with Joffrey, it was Catelyn's mistake because she thought she could still trust Littlefinger.

Jon Arryn's death had nothing to do with what he had discovered, Lysa poisoned him because Littlefinger told her to and because he wanted to send their son away. Ned would still be hand.

Littlefinger contributed more to Ned's death than Cersei.

The war was pretty much a doing of Littlefinger and Varys who knew exactly how to manipulate the Starks and the Lannisters against one another. If Varys had truly wanted to help Ned, he wouldn't have helped him follow Jon Arryn's last steps.

Robert would have died sooner or later because of Cersei's hatred for him. And a hatred he truly deserved. People didn't exactly cheer when he hit her, or when he abused her, or when he raped her.

I doubt they would have paid attention to the rumors of White Walkers in the North, even without a war. They seemed to laugh at the idea of them, even at the beginning of the first book.

And even if Joffrey were truly Robert's son, he still would have had pretenders to the throne because : Renly did not believe in the incest theory at all, Daenerys believes the Throne is rightfully hers, and so does Aegon. And why are people so certain Joffrey would have been so much better if he were Robert's true son? His ambition and hunger for power and ruthlessness come from his mother's education, and a lot of his messed-up-ness is a consequence of his father not giving a shit about him. And Robert died knowing that Joffrey was his son, I doubt he would have treated them better if Cersei had had his children instead of Jaime's.

In conclusion, mistake no 1: Trusting Littlefinger. For any character.
