Nathan Scott
Portrayed by James Lafferty. Nathan is the son of Deborah and Dan Scott, as well as the younger half-brother of Lucas. At first, he is resentful of his brother, and feels threaten when Lucas joins his basketball team. Nathan was seen as selfish and a jerk, especially as he treated his then girlfriend - Peyton, badly. However, he has to deal with constant pressure from Dan, who wants him to become the very best basketball player and Deborah (Deb) isn't always there for him. Because his academic performance isn't good, he receives tuition help from Haley (Lucas' best friend), and soon falls in love with her despite Lucas' dismay. They end up marrying even though no one agrees to it, however after Nathan and Lucas' relationship starts to become strong. After a few problems, Haley finds out she's pregnant with their son and Nathan becomes more mature, and finds ways to finance themselves (as they no longer live with Dan & Deb). From a selfish jock, Nathan becomes a much nicer and caring person and ends up becoming a sports agent after he gives up his basketball career. At the end, Nathan has two children with his wife Haley, Jamie and Lydia.
Lucas Scott
Portrayed by Chad Michael Murray.Nathan is the son of Karen Roe and Dan Scott, and the older half brother of Nathan. He also has a younger half sister, Lily through his mother and Keith [Dan's older brother]. Lucas was a extremely good basketball player and was often placed up against Nathan, increasing their hatred for each other however they end up becoming really close but Lucas had to quit basketball because of his heart condition that he inherited from Dan. Lucas is also a literature fan and throughout high school he began writing a book on essentially what is happening around him and it becomes extremely successful. He had a love triangle between Peyton and Brooke, whilst also nearly marrying Lindsay, his book editor. However, at the end he realises that his true love is Peyton and they get married and have a daughter named Sawyer Brooke Scott. After season six, both of them leave Tree Hill to travel the world. Lucas returned for an episode in the final season to help Haley.
Peyton Scott (nee Sawyer)
Portrayed by Hilarie Burton. Peyton Sawyer is Brooke's best friend from childhood and was introduced as Nathan's on-off girlfriend, however she began to have feelings for Lucas but wasn't able to do anything as Lucas was with on-off with Brooke and Nathan hated Lucas. Her love for Lucas often created troubles between her and Brooke but they ended up patching up. Peyton has a love for music and art and throughout the show she was shown to draw and also later on created a record label with Haley named Red Bedroom Records. Peyton is adopted, her adoptive mother died in a car accident and her dad works oversea so she doesn't see him much. She does finally meet her biological mother, Ellie Harp but Ellie dies from cancer. She also in her high school days, used to keep her webcam on and express herself to the world, until she was stalked by a man named "Derek" who pretended to be her long lost half brother. After Ian, under the disguise of Derek attacked her, she was saved by the real Derek and Lucas and later on Brooke (rebuilding their friendship).
Haley Scott (nee James)
Portrayed by Bethany Joy Lenz. Haley comes from a large family and she is the youngest child. She has two sisters (and a couple of brothers), the sisters, Taylor and Quinn have appeared in the show with Quinn becoming a series regular in the later seasons. She is Lucas' best friend and was asked to tutor Nathan to bring up his academic grades, she reluctantly does but ends up falling in love with him and this angers Lucas but as Nathan and Lucas grow closer, Lucas begins to accept Haley and Nathan's relationship. Both of them decide to get married even though most people (especially Dan) are annoyed with this. Nathan discovers Haley's passion for music and Haley records a song with Chris Keller and is asked to go on tour with him. Nathan is against this as he doesn't want her to leave so makes her choose between him and music, Haley gets angry and leaves him to go on tour. However they later patch up and renew their marriage vows and she becomes pregnant with their son, who they name Jamie. Few years later, their marriage has problems especially due to Nathan's accident but later on, things finally get better and they have a daughter named after her mother, Lydia.
Brooke Baker (nee Davis)
Portrayed by Sophia Bush. Brooke is the daughter of a rich couple who do not love each other, and therefore Brooke is often neglected. She, at first was portrayed as a fun loving party girl but later evolves into a better person and forms a relationship with Haley and Lucas. She falls in love with Lucas but has her heartbroken by him and Peyton who cheated on her. However later on she forgives them and is happy for them. Brooke, from high school loved fashion and created a company named Clothes Over Bros which became really successful. However, after her mother Victoria forged documents for the company, she is nearly arrested but her mother decides to own up. Brooke pays back the investors with everything she's got leaving her bankrupt. She has many relationships with men but does not truly fall in love with them until she meets director, Julian Baker whom she falls in love with and eventually marries. Brooke was unable to have children but later on she gives birth to twins through a miracle whom she names Jude and Davis Baker. She begins to form a relationship with her parents and later on starts a new company named, Baker Man.
