Hey Guys! The SGP maha episode was brilliant.

I loved the Suhana-Deepak scenes a lot. Poor thing is trying so hard that Deepak adjusts with the family. But today, I even realized that Radha Bua ofcourse loves her son a lot, but is just too traumatised after that incident. Well, she must be. But she could have atleast forgotten about it on his birthday, and let Deepak smile freely for once.

And Suhana's reactions were SO expected. Now I want to see if she really does leave the house or if Ishaan comes and stops her on time. It's really getting interesting now.

Anu....I don't think I'm that bigg a fan of JA either..lol...though I have read all her books...and really love some of the characters...but you need a certain amount of patience and getting used to her style of writing...it can bore you if you are not adaptive enough for the style of writing...My Api who loves reading books could never finish a JA saying that it always put her to sleep...loll..I, on the other hand, like reading classics....I had that 'let my buy all these literary classics and try reading them' phase hundreds of years back too...and I did bought and read a lot of them...loll...

And it may surprise people but I like Mr Knightly and Emma more than Elizabeth and Darcy...lol...Emma is less sensible and more fun than Elizabeth and Knightly is more mature and sensible than Darcy..IMO ONLY...Dont kill me anyone..

So yes, I too hope that it is only loosely based on Emma and not completely inspired by the classic as such but what I would certainly want to see in Aisha is that respect which Emma gives Mr Knightley and the manner in which she regards him so highly despite their disagreements in the book - I would want Aisha to have the same sort of respect for Arjun's character in the movie as well because that respect and regard forms the foundation of the love story.

EDIT:

And yes, I think I am able to make out Mr Elton,Harriet and even Frank Churchill from the promos- Aisha refers to some "NRI Anita" in the promo I saw, I am wondering if that is Jane Fairfax or Mrs. Elton.
I am mainly looking forward to see who plays Mrs Weston and if the character gets due importance in the movie.

On a different note, when I try to physically picture Mr Knightley , I can only think of Hugh Jackman 😳.

Kavz..Yeah I think its better to view the movie out of Emma's context and not just to avoid disappointment. The settings, the era is different...the story may be the same but the styling and the character essence can not be same given the different eras and setting.. I think we'll enjoy the movie more keeping Emma out of mind..

I liked Josh in Clueless...but he was unfit for Mr Knightly's character frame..really. Funny, thats not the case with Arjun...Even in promos I like his character, keeing him in or out of Mr Knightly's frame....

LOL...I can never think of any actor for any character while reading books...I use my own imagination to build characters in my mind...I have a VIVID imagination...😆

@Anu: I agree with Mash here- JA's style of writing takes some time to get used to and the descriptions of seemingly unimportant characters and their establishing and of the society takes some patience to read through but the story picks up momentum mid-way and one begins to get curious to read more to know what happens- I think that is the way with all the classics in general. And yes reading a JA book takes one longer than usual lol, I personally love JA's satire and like I said already, English literature really interests me, I wanted to pursue literature but went for Engineering instead for practical reasons, considering the opportunities in India are more for the latter and that is why I automatically get that patience and interest to read JA books hehehe and then of course, JA's satirical style of writing is awesome.

@Mash: You are not alone - I love Mr Darcy but after reading Emma, Mr Knightley has an edge over Mr Darcy for me probably because he has not been emulated as much as the former but somehow Mr Knightley scores over Mr Darcy for me. Mr Darcy's character had a flaw in his pride but Mr Knightley did not have even that and yet he was believable as a character. As for Elizabeth and Emma, I like the former more probably because I can identify with the former more than the latter , as for the stories- both are different plots and both are amazing in their own way.

Oh I liked Josh too but I can NEVER think of Josh's character to have been inspired from Mr Knightley , as for Arjun, I think he possesses SOME traits of Mr Knightley like his manner of correcting Aisha but with little less bluntness of course. I have to add that I love that in Clueless, Frank's character was made gay 😆

Undoubtedly Mash- Mr. Knightley is more sensible and mature than Mr Darcy (:P) but we must commend the latter for being that sensible for his age- you see Mr Knightley is supposed to be around thirty six-thirty seven but Mr Darcy is supposed to be around twenty eight, so you see I think it is natural that the former is more mature than latter. As for Emma being less sensible than Elizabeth , that is because of the vast difference in their roots. Emma is a rich spoilt brat but Elizabeth was a middle class girl so obviously she is more grounded which automatically brings more sensibility and maturity to her character than Emma's.

LOL Mash....that is very true....it requires patience which I don't really have which is probably why I couldn't motivate myself to finish the book....also the story is so famous....everyone kinda knows it anyways....her writing style didn't engage me much but then I wondered if it was just me since she's such a revered author and all.....LOL....anyways I'll see if I can attempt to finish it one day again.

@Kavya: I'm not a die hard fan of hardcore literature of this JA style either but otherwise I've loved English and literature as subjects in school and college...have always enjoyed them more but I too never pursued it as a degree cuz of practical purposes.

Mash, I understand what you are trying to say wrt the difference in the era of that setting and the recent ones so I am with you on the character styling and all but I highly doubt that the core values, certain behavioral traits, ethics and some sensibilities from that era to this have changed drastically. IMO, it IS possible to map things that happened in that era to this as well without them looking out of place or out of tune with this one. To illustrate my point, we had Mr Wickhams and Frank Churchills from then till now and we've had Mrs Bennets then and even now,you get the drift...

@Anu : Well I am personally fond of JA's writing style but I wouldn't term it a standard as such. I think it all boils down to what appeals to one - just because JA is considered a classic literary writer , it is not necessary that everyone should think so, you need not feel guilty for not liking her work so much.
